Nobody knew last December which teams would be competing. There was this same sort of nonsense earlier in the year when Mayo had play the first round in Connaught a week after the League final. People wanted to abandon the Fixtures list just to accommodate them.

It is all set out months in advance, and if it didn't suit Meath, they should have avoided being in the Tailteann.

Correct, bar the munster championship it's been a poor finish for hurling in general, kk clare the best game. Two semi finals in football very good, you would be hoping for a good final.

Joe gets far too much attention and that keeps him going .He has hunted with the fox and ran with the hounds for years yet people seem to take him seriously they should know better .

I'm going to predict a close match at the weekend. Looking forward to a good, intense game, played honestly by two pure footballing teams, followed by several weeks of bickering on here over a 50/50 decision that was given or not given.

Will aim to duck out before the still frames start to appear

Bold prediction of a close match! Does "pure footballing teams" include numbers back in defence when not in possession? as lets not kid ourselves Dublin and Kerry will be doing plenty of that at the weekend and the majority of scores will likely come from counter attacks or turnovers when their defences aren't set.

Last year the widely held opinion was the Dublin would have beaten Kerry in the All Ireland semi final had Con O'Callaghan played, a theory that will be well tested on Sunday.

It's nothing to do with Meath. It could be Cavan, Westmeath or anyone else who would be making a tailteann final.

Why does the fixture have to be set in stone? It's literally a 1 Day difference. Just fix it for the weekend and decide the exact date later.

Dublin fans missed out aswell you know. As it sold out early many dubs couldn't get tickets not to mention there were about a thousand Meath and down fans on the hill where dubs prefer. So that's another loss for Dublin fans.

Not sure what your problem is here.

Your conspiracy theory will have Dublin competing in every semi final and final in the future. You just need to refine it to get the GAA to arrange their schedules around that.

It all depends on the management and if no bias or politics are involved when picking the correct players.

Are the Kerry team doing the Dublin banquet Sunday night or will they fly down home like the Limerick lads?

I believe they have accommodation booked in the Burlington hotel so the answer is yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,852 ✭✭✭rolling boh

Are you sure many missed out because it looked to me anyone who really wanted a ticket got one plus despite the full house announcement there seem to be spaces around even allowing for most of the first match fans leaving .

In fairness that LK team were hailed as legends, they enjoyed the celebrity status, and there were mgmt issues integrating the younger guys with the old legends - all covered in Unlimited Heartache book, written around a decade ago, massive infighting

Hailing Brolly, Spillane and O'Rourke as a golden age of punditry is nostalgic BS and is trumpeted by none other than Spillane and Brolly themselves. Spillane was God awful and resorted to spitting out mind numbing stats when analysing a team, his great tactical input was "kick it over the blanket" Brolly's party piece was personal attacks on certain players and managers and apart from talking over everyone he had very little else of impact to say. O'Rourke sat there and smirked like a wise old owl and collected his pay. None of them would hold a candle to even the worst pundit on the circuit at present.

Good podcast here by two of the lads from that great game a decade ago -

    Paddy Andrews and James O'Donoghue

    hqdefault.jpg

Both lads finding it a tough final to call.

James thinking Kerry have the edge on freetaking for most of the game. Hard to argue with that point.

Paddy thinks that the the game will be won in midfield Howard preventing ball into Clifford, which tied into James point that Kerry have to get ball into Clifford and Dublin have to try and prevent the ball going in.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

My previous and highly confident belief that some Nally tickets would go on sale on Ticketmaster this Friday is fading… rapidly! But you never know…

Was Stacks quota cut as they are now an Intermediate side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭CantonasCat2

Right, is that the way it works? I didn’t know that. Very interesting!

Haven't heard this episode of the pod yet, but I've been pleasantly surprised with O'Donohue as a contributer on this show during the summer. Has interesting enough views and isn't trying too hard to be controversial or to be out there with a hot take as others, including Andrews, can be.

Fair play to him, I was never particularly fond of him as a player but he's a good contributer in this.

No it’s not, I just enjoy mentioning the fact that Stacks were relegated to intermediate

I was looking at your 1st reply going wtf that's not how it works.

And then I get to this post.

    Mighty. 😂😂

Beating them in the division 1 relegation play off last weekend has me on a real high going into this Sunday.

I Presume it would be. I expect by about 25% if it's similar to Limerick. What really catches these clubs is the extra tickets counties get are handed out pro rats as well

I've never experience as quiet a build up to a football final - even this thread is lagging behind the hurling one.

A good proportion of the media have spend the best part of this week dissecting the hurling final and concentrating on the women's World Cup.

Maybe the build up was as quiet last year but being from near Galway I at least could get a sense that there was some excitement towards it. Not feeling any sense of collective anticipation towards the final this time around.

Proximity is a big part of it.

There is a fair amount of build up about it in Kerry as you would expect.

But again I think it's the fact that it's in July makes a huge difference.

People are on holiday, other things are going on, importantly schools are off, school kids getting excited about an All Ireland is a huge part of the buildup.

Plus we were used of a September All Ireland final.

July finals will take a lot of getting used of.

Like an eejit I only copped on that there won't be a minor match on beforehand. Realised sure that has been played already.

Is there match on now pre the final at all? Even a junior match or something?

Seems a bit of shame. I got great value for a couple of years being able to see if that minor 'David Clifford' was worth the hype for Kerry.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,714 ✭✭✭dobman88

The Stunning are playing a set as pre match entertainment. No other game on, just the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,889 ✭✭✭orangerhyme

I think Kerry used up their excitement last year as we felt we had a good chance to win after beating Dublin. Also it was first AI win since 2014. I wasn't too excited in 2015 or 2019 as I was pretty certain Dublin would win.

It's true about July schedule throwing us off. People on holidays, students away etc. Also the weather's been very poor.

I've seen people in Kerry say that there's less excitement and fewer flags out around the place.

I think in general there's been a weird energy since COVID. Cost of living, energy prices, far right protests, Ukraine war, heatwaves and wild fires across Europe, worst July weather in living memory, violent attacks in Dublin.

There's an interesting book called "The fourth turning" which predicted all this.

There were complaints here about two games being played when Dublin played Monaghan, saying that it made it too hard for supporters to get tickets. I think that used to be an issue as well when the Minor game was included on the big day. So that problem solved to some extent.

If there is a quiet build up to the final, that is no harm. I got by for many years before the internet not being able to write about it on Boards.

All right thanks - I am real creature of habit my first reaction was who was playing in the minor.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.
