Advantage Feeder/O'Neill ALCI feeders for heavy cattle

Has anyone any experience with the Advantage Feeder with heavy cattle? I'd be looking to run groups of about 30 x 600kg bullocks getting a few kg for the summer. I hear the O'Neil version is a better job, is available to hold up to 6 ton but is about 50% more expensive, and worst of all is a bit of a lead time!

I'm concerned the Advantage might be a little too light or that I may not be able to successfully run larger groups of heavy cattle with it. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

No experience with either feeder but I have a condron holding 4/5 tonne. Well made feeder and well able to handle 40+ cattle.

On a side not I stoped using it outdoors because I found cattle were very hard on ground around it and also they weren't making use of grass in fields.

Do you use it in the shed now instead for winter finishing ?

How many Kg's would them lads put away when there over 600kgs 15 a day? or more? When would you shed them roughly what weight?

    That's a very open question.

The poorer the quality of the animal the lighter they go in and the longer they are eating the more per day they will eat.

If you have a hi molasses lots of fillers ration they could eat more than 15kgs a day when they get going.

Its not a system for the faint hearted every day is cost.

I only use for the final straight and once a cover of fat appears or if not thriving they must go immediately.

Any update on what you bought in the end? Am stuck on the same issue, looking for something that would suit heavier cattle

Trying to weigh up the benefits of both: Advantage feeder looks a bit light but is stainless steel whereas the ALCI feeder looks heavier but is galvanised.

Price difference is huge so just trying to figure out the reason why. Cant see why the O Neill is priced at close to 3 times as much?

Interested to know where this 5 tonne Condon feeder was purchased as the biggest option they advertise online is only 2.5 tonne
