Flight operator changed at short notice

Just wondering if anyone has experienced after booking with Aer lingus that at short notice they inform you that they have no plane available and you end up travelling with an unknown operator.

Recently flew to Malaga and 2 days before flight were informed were flying with privilege airlines.

Premium price paid to fly on a old 3rd rate aircraft.

This happens in commercial aviation.

Better a hire-in that a cancellation and rebooked 2 days later.

Also, its a B777. Many would see that as better than an A320

I believe they are using a 1990's 757 on that route which is fairly jaded inside.

The 757 in question was delivered to Iberia in December 1999. Several of the Aer Lingus A320s are not appreciably younger than this aircraft. The 757 is increasingly rare in Europe now and there are some who would welcome the chance to fly on this modern classic instead of an A320!

Could be worse. You could have paid a premium to fly Business Class and ended up on EI-EIL or EI-EIK :-)

I'd share the view of others here; a 757 is a treat these days, even if it's a bit dated.

So they wet leased an aircraft from another airline so you and the rest of the passengers reached your destination. Instead of being cancelled.

So your complaint is that the aeroplane doesn't have a shamrock?

I think I was on that flight too! A 757. Leather seats and loads of legroom. The upside of flying in a perfectly good older aircraft is you get to experience what air travel used to be like when it was comfy, and you were treated like a passenger rather than a piece of meat luggage. Windows are bigger too. And the flight got in about 20 minutes early. And the Privilege cabin crew were sound. Seriously. What’s your issue?
