I think her appearance at the PAC would make a great EastEnders end of episode moment, you know when that theme tune kicks in? The one that sounds like someone has just fallen down the stairs.

There is zero chance of DF or any of the others who have recused themselves one way or another, appearing before any committee. Move on.

Turbridy will return to radio but in a much different programme. It could be around books and the arts, some niche listening.

I've probably missed some essential details that have emerged from this affair but did anyone other than Forbes authorize these additional payments to Tubridy? Did anyone else know about them in RTE before they were uncovered by the auditors?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,433 ✭✭✭RoTelly

I agree DF is gone. She may have though BOK's performance might signal someway of going to one of the committees but, once Noel Kelly had introduced BOK's email to him and then how BOK and DF arrange for BOK's exit package, she probably changed her mind.

RTÉ need to let us know if Jim Jennings is really sick, if he is really sick why wasn't he put on the Leadership board?

I stole this painting for the children or Ireland and replaced it with a fake by Conroy.

A tax on the streamers and online gaming services is stupid. I chose to pay for these services and why should I pay a tax on top of what I pay them just because RTE can't manage its finances properly?

Why should we be paying extra for RTE's fookups? If RTE can't manage to run properly with the money it is getting, then it needs a root and branch clear out and a major overhaul on how it's run.

We can't keep bailing out major fookups. We are still fooking paying for PMPA and that took place back in the 1980's.

RTE floated that idea a while ago to support them - everyone's favourite Musical guy was pushing it

RTÉ pushing for the introduction of a tax on your Netflix - Extra.ie

Fairness 🤣. I agree with everything you have said on here over the years @ButtersSuki you have been proven right much to the chagrin of the RTE, RT & NKM acolytes on here who have unsuccessfully tried to shut you down.

The reason people are not paying the licence fee Vincent is because RTE is not for purpose. If RTE no longer deals with NKM, dumps RT and cuts the high earners wages then people will start paying the licence fee again.

Why do you expect people to pay for a service that is taking us for granted. If RTE was in the private sector it would be long gone by now or would be surviving in a much slimmer version.

I suppose that to an outsider it would be astonishing that Coveney was the director of strategy in the complete clusterfsck that is RTE. What was the core strategy, how to lose money? How the Hell do these people justify their L'Oreal salaries?

    Regards...jmcc

No he means the people who work with him on his radio show as well as other presenters and reporters like Emma O'Kelly and Paul Cunningham alongside the rest of the RTE who have taken pay cut after pay cut.

How many times have you talked about a barrister? What difference does that make?

he was also the guy insulting his RTE team on live tv. Was he a barrister then?

Fro recollection on this thread me and other had the ability to call Tubs BS during the meetings, no need for a barrister

as I said I listen to plenty of view, heard enough from Brolly over the years, you do seem very concerned that someone doesn’t agree with you on Brolly….very strange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Not concerned at all. Listen or don’t. Doesn’t bother me either way.

i mentioned he’s a barrister simply because he would be used to interrogating people with a view to getting to the truth. He was hardly in “barrister mode” on The Sunday Game, so it’s interesting to see him analyze information wearing that hat, that’s all.

We may not get to choose which taxes we are forced to pay, but we certainly do choose licences and fees. In it's most basic form, if I do not drive, I do not pay for a driving licence. I would not even know where to start with fees. Fees can be waived, suspended, transferred and most obviously, they can be avoided without having to tell untruths.

What you are suggesting should be implemented is so detached from anything that is grounded that I cannot believe you are being serious, but more likely trying to bait some people in here.

    "It's not fair"

    Hmm...

Yeah, that would be his bag all right....maybe a US Politics circa 1960 - 1980 podcast and some sort of charity misery slot for a nice change of pace once a month.

You should apply to Rte for comedy role and a big pay packet, please wake up look at the drop off in paying the tv license already and here is one when it’s due won’t be paying and don’t mind the court day which will be over flowing and back dated like the NCT. The crims will love this.

He was definitely in 'barrister mode' on the Sunday Game, wouldn't let anyone else get a word in, he was unlistenable eventually especially all the trash talking he did of Mayo all because of a personal vendetta...well rid of him on the Sunday Game.

So Bakhurst is having a 1 on 1 meeting with Tubs.

Is this the end for the Toyman at rte?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Karppi

Well, if that’s going to happen he’d better start reading some books and learning something about the arts. He probably already thinks he’s Ireland’s Melvyn Bragg, but he really ain’t.

Absolutely not. He will be back on air in the not so distant future, once the furore has abated. Naive to think otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,789 ✭✭✭Karppi

More likely that it’s pure optics. I don’t see Bakhurst being able to lead the significant change that RTE needs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

Doubt it.. I’d guess it was a ‘How do we get back to our old ways’ kind of meeting.

The closed shop nepotistic structure in RTE , in my opinion, where a cartel with way too much power rode the taxpayer bareback is what really upset people most when it was exposed.

The rot was from the top down and but for a slip up this lot would be still in power, aided and abetted by overblown payments and whoring themselves to everyone who would dish out lucrative ‘gigs’ on the basis of their RTE exposure.

All hidden by spurious ‘commercial concerns’ and weak government which seemed to be prepared to ‘let them at it’ nothing to do with us guv.

Time this flagrant gravy train was emptied and reality and real change effected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,521 ✭✭✭Lewis_Benson

Nobody in RTE should be on more than 100k.

Needs to be capped and properly regulated to ensure this shyte doesn't happen again.

Of course we know what's actually going to happen....

Tubs and the rest of the gang are probably down in Fagans drinking pints of Bass with Bertie, laughing about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,433 ✭✭✭RoTelly

So RTÉ definitely do not like bad press or do not want to own up to bad press. Instead of owning up to their mistake the tried to make a joke and then were more apologetic and then they push a press release about the numbers watching the match, which avoids details of the technical difficulties and how they have resolved the problem so that it will not happen again.

All very chummy between Bakhurst and Tubs and their "constructive" little chinwag, with another one next week.

Just doing the packing now before they climb back aboard the gravy train again. I think its even naive to think he'll get moved off that prime slot. I expect he'll be back pontificating at 9am weekdays from September.....after a long languid August of sipping cappuccinos with his copy of Ulysses, bookmarked on page 4.

RTE should make sure to have the first advert in the first ad break of his show to be the licence fee reminder. Just to give both middle fingers to the plebs.

A lot of posts recommending for someone who has no interest if people listen or not

well I’m a not. Thanks for the interest

Exactly, optics to make out they have extensive talks before they push him back in

Again, I’d recommend anyone read any article or listen to any podcast or watch any tv debate/show/commentary on this subject NO MATTER what side of the argument you as the receiver are on, and no matter which side those discussing it are on. I've similarly posted links to all of the Dunphy podcasts on this. I'm simply providing links for people who may want to listen, if you don't want to that's fine.

What I will say is the more information you take in from all sides the better a position you are in to make your own mind up on the subject. Do you think watching Stephanie Preissner defending Tubs on tv was my dream commentator on this subject? Or any of the other Tubs & Co. supporters? But I listened to their take.

If you’re going to rubbish it, at least have the decency to listen to it.

No matter how strong your dislike for Brolly, I’d wager my dislike for Terri Prone trumps same. When I saw her on the tv panel on VM1 I admit my own perceptions prejudice expected her to be supportive of Tubs and Kelly and confirm my thoughts on her. I was tempted to switch off immediately. Thankfully I didn’t. I wouldn’t say I’ve changed my opinion on her fully by any means, but it has changed a little.
