    Actually, reading back through this thread again and thinking about it a bit more, I think you better get another competent plumber out to have a look at everything and make sure everything is ok.

    The guy who did this is a cowboy

    And leave the white in place. Tighten all joints making sure that all strands of the wire go into the screw-terminal.

    As mentioned above. All work carried out by that plumber needs to be checked by someone qualified to do so. Both plumbing and electrics.
