Yeah storage is a killer at the minute not as expensive here but not cheap, I actually have something new I've been working on so that these cabs can be publicly enjoyed soon hopefully it is all worth it!

Killer Instinct would be nice, I always loved KI2, the music and game just seemed so modern for it's time. I actually have MK2 and NFL Blitz type cab (its a NBA Showtime, but they came in a Blitz 2000 & NBA Showtime Combo sometimes and you're right they're slightly different size, as is NBA Jam which I recently sold off to Barcadia), so KI would probably make the most sense at this stage, either that or Wrestlemania as I can't think of many more decent ones from back then in that type of cabinet.

Am I right in thinking that the decryption of the Killer Instinct games hasn't been properly broken yet, and Mame still has trouble with them as a result?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 942 ✭✭✭dav09

Hmmm you may be right, I better look into that. I know I've played it on a PC a few years back but can't remember issues, probably not mame but considering there's now a 1UP and it's on Xbox with Rare Replay someone surely has figured it out. But I could definitely see this been the case as the hardware was unique for its time, and I've had, tried and failed to operate an original KI2 PCB and it's an absolute nightmare to keep running.

Nope, scratch that, it was Primal Rage I was thinking about. Pretty sure it hasn't had it's encryption fully broken yet

Got something to demonstrate a feature of the Mega CD that I've always known about but never seen in person.

It's one of very few albums that actually had CD+G features back in the day.

Gotta love formats that flopped commercially but came in handy for Karaoke DJs 🤣

Haha! no way, I didn't know that at all. Off to ebay to buy some Fleetwood Mac now 😁

Bloody hell man, I see you're back to hoovering stuff up. That's amazing.

Is it working or does it need some TLC?

Just picked up some of these:

    image.png

They'll allow me to create custom PS1 memory cards. All I need to do is pair them with a Raspberry Pi Pico and a MicroSD SPI module.

Essentially they'll become any kind of memory card or controller that I want them to be (the controllers and the memory cards share the same bus, so technically I can fake a controller to the memory card bus and it should just work...)

So, one to become a memory card that I can easily put saves on and the other to allow me to work through the Pico to connect any controller to the PS1.

Well its currently not working. Id guess its a very small problem with a board. Also needs a new DMD.

Theres no glass so there's years of dirt on the playfield but its actually pretty great under the grime. The cabinet is in fantastic condition along with everything else so it should clean up to be a very very nice pin.

I got it for a really good price so even with money for new parts etc it's still a big win.

Currently renovating the game room so the pin is up with brown finger for a spell until i have my place sorted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,274 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Any idea if the board is performing any kind of logic (even by probing around the place with a multi-meter) or is it completely dead?

If you need any EEPROMs burned let me know, I might be able to help you out.

My name finally came up on the SVI-CAS waiting list a few weeks ago. Yesterday, it arrived, safe and sound from the land down under. All three currently available adapter cables included...Atari, Commodore, and SVI/MSX. Looking forward to using it...

I still waiting on my one. I think I registered interest a bit after you, so hopefully I'm coming up soon :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,986 ✭✭✭Inviere

You're prob almost there so Steve. If you go ahead and order, ask Duncan to use a HS6 Code of 847330, that got mine through customs without any nonsense. I did have to pay charges, but I'd rather that than see it being returned and have to deal with that mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Ah its powering on. Id have a pretty good idea of what the problem is and the solution.

Thanks for the rom offer. Im pretty sure it needs and update to get rid of the "okokokokok" callouts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,912 ✭✭✭Steve X2

Cheers for that. How much did customs sting you for?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,986 ✭✭✭Inviere

9 blips, that's for the unit itself and the three additional cables. Not too bad at all really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,390 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

If anyone is looking for one of these, I will prob sell mine if someone is interested. I don't have a selection of hook up cables though.

Got me a fenrir. Installing in my recently acquired jpn saturn.

Pulled this out of it, had been installed between cd drive and motherboard. Any ideas what it is/did?

Drive was doa, wouldn't even play audio cds.

Standard 21 pin Saturn mod chip. It allowed the playing of backups etc. No need for it now with your Fenrir. Let us know how you get on with the Fenrir, be interested in grabbing one myself sooner or later.

Will do. Had a quick run through, updated and put some roms on there. Came with a friction fit bracket, seems to hold it nicely in position on the two "posts" where the cd unit mounts.

Saw mixed reviews on those (in general, not that particular supplier), so hadn't ordered one.

The backet supplied does a good job of "presenting" the micro SD card for removal

Picked up a nice atomiswave last week

Its dusty but been in dry storage for about a decade. Inside of it is very very clean.

Ill get it cleaned up and tested, is guess all it will really need is a cap kit and it will be ready to go.

Wondering what the best thing to do with it is now, retropi it?

Atomiswave mobos aren't too mad expensive and you can get fairly cheap bootleg cartridges that look like the real deal. Probably be the only person in Ireland to actually use the Atomiswave cabinet for it's actual intended purpose if you went that way :D

    Everthink of a MiSTercade setup?

Welcome to the AtomiswaveSD family! :D

MiSTercade setup - the only drawback which might push someone to a Pi would be the ablity to switch between TATE and YOKO games no matter the monitor setup. MiSTercard can't...or can, but you'd need to tilt your head :D

Someone has just created a Atomiswave flashcart in the past few weeks (can't find link at the mo, but was in French if that helps). Most games have been ported to the Sega Naomi at this stage though, easier to play them on a NetDimm with that system I would suggest.

You go full @o1s1n at that point and get a second cab for vertical games 😊

Joking aside, that is a little annoying. Is it a limitation on the mister side, or the game/core side?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Its actually my second one but moving my other one on as it needs work.

I have the 2 cyberleads aswell so i might mistercade my awsd and put it into tate for vert games

I have a tekken tag board for one of the cyberleads and then i might mistercade the other cyberlead for regular beatem ups etc

Just agreed to sell my crazy taxi cab so ill have a few euro to get some arcade bits

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,390 ✭✭✭KeRbDoG

If you use the HDMI output, it can rotate as needed but if its the raw video signal from a core which JAMMA adapters use it can't be processed/rotated seemily

Basically the arcade side of things being kept very pure with no frills. Cores are trying to replicate boards 100% it as if the arcade core is in fact the PCB. So the options are limited to the actual PCB dip settings.

If it's a vertical game, then you need to rotate your monitor, like with a real PCB.

I do get it and it adds to that feeling of it being a far more legitimate experience with no emulation attached.

But as you said I'm fairly lucky in that I've a second cabinet for vertical games so might change my tune if I didn't.

I believe there's a workaround if you're using a panel instead via a HDMI cable.

That sounds like a really great setup. Man, two Cyberleads! I keep forgetting you got that second one.

Do remember as well that PS1 lightgun games are just one SNAC adapter for the MiSTercade away too, incredibly easy to set up and would be amazing on a big AWSD 29 inch monitor. ]

Edit - just to say if you need a hand with any of that MiSTercade stuff, from buying bits to setting it up give me a shout.

It's fairly straightforward once you know how but can be a little bit confusing trying to figure out where to start.
