If Derry had taken just 2 points from some of the chances they butchered they would have won that. But because they didn't, because it was so tight coming into the last 10 minutes they froze to a large extent. Definitely one they left behind rather than a game that Kerry won.

That Kerry team are shite, not a patch on any of the great teams in our lifetimes.

Daylight robbery by Kerry, they were shite. Probably better for them though, more to work on.

Kerry now favourites for the All Ireland. Bookies usually dont get it wrong. I think last years semi final was the first time in 6 or 7 years that Dublin were not favourites. Kerry even lower odds favourites this time.

    Kerry 8/11

    Dublin Evens.

Kerry didn't score between 47 and 64/65th minute. That's where Derry lost this game. Criminal.

He always has a tired head on him, hands on hips gasping for air - then he gets the ball, almost impossible to stop at times.

I think Dublin to mark the space around David Clifford, rather then try and mark Clifford himself.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

A lot of too similar workhorse type players. Only fella that can kick a point is David Clifford.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,311 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I think a there will be a mix interest from curious neutrals, and others who like to see both lose!

Ah I think most teams do it to be fair. Especially when defending a lead late on. You get the advantage of playing the game on your own terms when you're leading late in a game. Derry would have been at the same and possible worse had they being in the that position!

    Really good weekend of football

    Great effort from all involved

Two soft frees to level the game, no yellow for the Kerry keeper for cleaning out a player and then a yellow for Clifford for a fair shoulder. He's a shite ref and has been for years.

It's like with any sport, if you don't take your chances against superior opposition there's a fair chance you'll be punished.

Classic case of that today as Derry were the better side.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,657 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

Also, in any unbiased world Rodgers would have been man of the match, but sure they can't ever look past the golden boy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 580 ✭✭✭Dont Be at It

Derry got a soft free for the Clifford shoulder at the end of the first half. The ref wasn't the difference. Had Derry popped over 2 points from those chances to go 4 up they would have seen it out. They could have time wasted their way to 73 mins.

the ref was not to blame for Derry missing chances to win the game and he gave them time to snatch a draw .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,241 ✭✭✭PressRun

No point trying to keep him scoreless imo, it isn't going to happen, he's going to get a few points a game at least. Attacking the supply of ball is your best bet. He's carrying Kerry at the moment.

Oh man that was frustrating. Derry should have been 4 or 5 pts up. So many wides and silly goal attempts. Once their keeper started kicking the long ball, they lost 3 possessions in a row. Handed it to Kerry on a plate. Lovely time to take the lead with 5 mins to go...

Dublin have a job on their hands to keep D Clifford quiet. But sure we'll give it a go!

That sort of win will suit Kerry, play down the hype etc.

I hope the game will be as good as the 2013 AISF when Kerry were on the slide and Dublin were the coming team.

No doubt Kerry people think that there will be a roll reversal 10 years later.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

That was also hugely reckless.... Diving into the kicker if the free, and it looks like knee ligament damage for McKinlass. Red card territory IMHO. Joe wouldn't send him off even if he took his head off, but hugely dangerous. WA free taker is not expecting a tackle like that, he's not set for it and due to O Se's action he's badly hurt.

It's onw thing Kerry's normal cynical play being ignored, but this was different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,036 ✭✭✭✭threeball

Kerry do it throughout the game and almost never get pulled up. They've done it for years but are thought of as pure footballers so it's ignored. Derry and Monaghan both got called for stuff this weekend that their opponents didn't. It's quite prevalent every year.

Yeah! You would swear he had kicked 9 points in an all Ireland semi and destroyed the best man marker in the game

Last year when Kerry beat Dublin you could sense the relief in Croke Park. It was so long since they had beaten Dublin and they had to watch us dominate and win 6 in a row. It must have hurt those in the Kingdom real deep. So i felt it was more relief than joy when they finally beat us last year.

To come back the following year and give all that up and lose the final to Dublin again must be unthinkable to them. If they beat us for the second year in a row and in a final the marker will have been well and truly laid down. It will definately be a changing of the guard and there will be a new sheriff in town.

If you can't appreciate how good Rodgers played then that's on you.

O Shea strikes me as quite a nasty character in general. Mckinless on the gas going off whilst O shea trots off happy with his work. My main gripe is it's not an isolated incident.

Foley tried to do McGuigan as he took a shot in the first half. Then went down faning injury to run down the black card clock.

Foley also came in an elbowed glass as glass tackled a kerry player in the last few minutes. The ball broke free. Derry player hand tripped a kerry player resulting in a free but the elbow on glass was completely ignored. Kerry went up and scored to put them two clear.

Derry had Kerry on the ropes but needed to get a 3 point lead to bring it down the stretch. They did well to withstand Kerrys 3rd quarter onslaught to lead by 2 with 10 to go but 2 points or less was always going to give Kerry oxygen.

They'll rue those missed chances. At the same time they put up a fair battle. I wouldnt have expected that after the Cork display but could be a contender heading into the next few seasons.

Both Kerry and Dublin will need to up it serval notches as they both know they got a bit lucky to survive.

Great weekend of semi finals. Nice to quieten the know-it-alls knocking the game.

Rodger’s had a great game but to suggest Clifford only got motm because he is the “golden boy” is ridiculous. Clifford’s par game is motm level for a normal player and he was better than par today

El Classico of Football for the final once again

    Dublin vs Kerry

Dublin to shade it but could go anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,339 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

One on Obrien was soft, probably not a free. Clifford’s was a fair shoulder.

not sure the Kerry gk one is actually a free according to the rules. You’re allowed to jump for a ball. If you know of something in the rules that says you need to tuck in your body when jumping for a ball quote the rule here

Overall, just a cut and thrust championship game with some tight calls but overall well handled

I think that's fair. I think for the goalie hip to the head, the onus is on the defender to be a bit smarter. It's the goalie's ball all day so adjust accordingly.
