With the public and media focus on this would Tubridy be likely to WIN a legal case for breach of contract? (considering whatever is left on his RTE radio contract) and how much would it cost to pay him off if Backhurst decides to opt for letting him go. Apparently Backhurst is asking the opinions of Tubridy's colleagues on whether to keep him which is supposed to be divided. Tubridy said he could be out of a job by Friday which is now tomorrow. It will be interesting to see how Backhurst deals with Tubridy and will be a sign as to how effective or ineffective this guy will be.

It can be and our company did it previous

Especially when it all went bang circa 2008-2010, they found it easier to let people sail off into the sunshine with a package than keeping them on with boom wages and not due to retire for years. Then rehire

I doubt rte managed to save any money, expect one CFO walked out with huge package and next CFO walked in on same wages. Sure who cares it’s paid for anyway seems to be the attitude!

Tubs will have no other offers, 75K will probably be 75k more than anyone else will offer the “top talent” 🤣🤣

So I was off line all day - whats the low down? esp with regards to Ryan?

Tubs won’t be in the country for the next week. After a busy day of meetings in zLondom with UK broadcasters, he and Noel are flying out to LA tonight for a series of Netflix meetings. Harry & Meghan are keen to do a second tell all interview and want Netflix to get the Toyman on board. To sweeten the deal it looks like they’re proposing a new 1-1 chat show vehicle, Tubridy Meets… with a different internationally recognisable guest each episode. Netflix are excited to finally have Tubs ask Putin and Ursula Van Der Leyn if they have any Irish relatives and if they like Nial Horsn’s music. !

It's so stupid that NKM have probably suggested it

He should offer his services for free to Bidens campaign.

*rethinks the damage Tubridy could do*

Actually maybe Trumps campaign has the greater need of his brand of empathy.

He doesn't have a valid contract since he resigned from the LLS, there was no separate contract for the radio slot.

Methinks he won't be seen or heard in RTE again.

Forbes is a joke going around with her New York style glasses. She’s watched too many romcoms I think. These RTE scroungers think they are in Hollywood with agents etc. They are a loss making entity, Hollywood studios are capitalist privately owned and profitable. What planet brought in these people? They are so misguided I have no idea. Bakhurst is another I’m not falling for. I’m not falling for his softly softly measured jibberish, he looks like he burnt the candle at both ends for some years and is playing the mummy’s boy now to the RTE view shop base of country conservative nationalising socialists. There’s skeletons in his closet.

NK will tell Netflix that Ryan got 9 million streams during his last tv appearance.

I actually thought of something like that earlier. Can’t get employed this side of tge world but have enough dubious political cred with the books and some media experience, there’s a huge gravy trough in the US of A for media advisers and spokespersons etc. I really wouldn’t be surprised.

"As long as NK has anything to do with RTE no licence fee will be paid by me."

Unfortunately your right to legally vote with your feet through not paying the fee is to be removed shortly. That is the plan. This debacle in RTE will only accelerate that.

    Article from January:

The loophole that allows people who don't own a TV to cheat RTE of their money will be closed. There have been renewed calls for this since the payments scandal emerged.

I'm amazed more people aren't up in arms about this.

I’m sick of these country wans like Blathnaid no Chofai showing us dissenters compassion as though to say they are at peace and we in pieces. Do these people have any idea how the world outside of Ireland works where a country needs to earn money to stay afloat. That loss making public entities should be privatised or shut down?

I am for an idea called creative destruction where certain non performing employees are culled or fired every cycle. And this entails a lot of pain of pain but keeps the country/businesses healthy. If we pander to the sick in society and give them precedence over all others we will become a sick society. Decimate the bottom 10% regularly and this leads to healthy businesses and economy.

I'm worried by the angle the deputy DG was taking today.

He was inclined to agree with tubridy and NK that it's plausible that tubridy and NK fully believed that the yearly 75k was being paid by Renault and that it was plausible that they thought that the UK account was also Renault.

Now a blind man can see that NK and Forbes dreamed up this deal to provide funds to Tubridy but if Tubridy is in there stating it was renault as far as he knew and now Rte agree that Tubrudy could well have believed it was renault, I see a big lawsuit incoming from the tubridy camp.

Prime time now rolling out the trotskies saying Tubridy is an entertainer and needs to be given industry standard salary. I’ve never come across a more upside down country. These people are subordinates and leeches. Tubridy is wooden. He has the personality of a plank of wood. He would be laughed out of Hollywood with his “mind yourselves” socialist jibberish while demanding his pay isn’t cut. Talented my whole!

Varadker was on about it today, reform of the licence but also saying not fair RTE get the guts of it - so the gravy train for RTE is coming to an end one way or another

Should also be a review of the amount of money the government and subsidiaries spend on RTE advertising

Not only do RTE garner hundreds of millions from the tax payer directly, they are also taking millions from the government (tax payers) with the begging bowl and then taking further millions from government bodies with advertising/sponsorship (tax payer again tho I bet they class this as commercial activities/funding, like ooh Joe Duffy brings in millions in advertising but its the government paying for the advertising and explains why they are "selling" advertising through a barter account)

When you think about it just how sustainable is the current RTE model when they are basically fully funded by the tax payer and giving us absolute crap in return whilst enjoying the high life themselves

Of course they are. Turkeys aren’t going to vote for Christmas. RT & Duffy’s salaries are the high bar. Even if you work for a private organisation in the media sector in someway, your pay package is going to be benchmarked against that high bar. If RTÉ salaries decreased by 40 or 50%, and that has a knock on effect elsewhere also.

This is a serious abuse of public funds if true

    The Breda O’Keeffe 'redundancy' deal.

500,000 euro for her even though her position not made redundant

Sell the whole lot off and do a deal with the builder to build them a modern vastly slimmed down studio complex in an industrial estate in the midlands

This was one of the main revelations from today's committee hearing. Seems only she and Dee Forbes might even have been the only ones aware it had happened.

That surely cannot be true, half a million just for leaving your job so someone else can do it instead?

Exactly what kind of show was DF running?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,052 ✭✭✭saabsaab

Should be on the agenda. Outside Dublin anyway maybe Cork studio there already.

Highly 'irregular' let's say. Seems she was almost a John Delaney type figure and making big decisions unilaterally and without running them past her executive board.

Did she arrange this payment for herself and sign off on it...

    This !

Just watching good old RTE , while catching up on today's thread.

A programme called Broke , where people around the country who barely have enough to get by are talking about their lives and how they are trying to cope , food banks , charities , extra shifts if they can get them .

And that entitled sxxxe/ fvcker / bxxxtard ! walking free and clear with all that public money and still there would be people listening to him and his supporters , all those in NKM who think nothing of €75, 000.

All the lip service they pay about charities and preaching to others , such hypocritical humbugs .

I want them all gone, it is sooo infuriating!

    Sorry for the rant .
