Of course they are. Just saying I'd be fairly sure they will sue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,090 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

I would expect them to try and sue too as they have no cop on and can't read the room of the general public.

All just a coincidence, Noel Kelly would never ever ask if any of his clients would even be considered to make an appearance on his good friend Ryans television programme.

So RTE consider Tubs contract null and void after he pulled out of the LLS, NK disagree.

    I smell blood.

In fairness to him, he's good at keeping all the balls in the air and whizzing around, so the public and PAC have gone cross eyed!

If a plumber or a mechanic does a job for me, they charge me VAT, which they then pay to the government. They also pay income tax on their earnings after that.

VAT and income tax are two different taxes.

Fact is Tubridy, like Marty Morrissey, provided an MC service. He's not employed by Renault so there was a service there.

I'm open to being corrected on all of this!

So Tubs invoiced them recently but, by the sounds of it, hasn't been paid this month because he's out of contract as far as RTE are now concerned. This comes as news to NK and Tubs who iirc said he'd a contract for 5 (?) years to run on the radio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,538 ✭✭✭jmcc

Bakhurst also said that RTE wanted the 150K back. Contract negotiations were paused for all contractors after the scandal broke. It is going to be a difficult decision for RTE (if it hasn't already been taken). Advertising is going to be a factor. If the advertisers don't want their brands to be associated with Tubridy then that might influence RTE's decision. Watch for the Ryan Tubridy Show social media accounts being changed as a possible early indication.

Except that NK might look at the whole thing in the round and figure out that it might be worth cutting off this particular branch, in order to salvage as much as possible of his business. Ryan's perception of their great friendship might be strained yet. C'est la vie.

Tubridy seems a bit touched. His speak about his soul and how he cares about all Children in Ireland, weird. I honestly think he sees himself as bigger than Santa Claus.

    Weird vibe.

Would you sponsor the most hammy and disingenuous broadcaster in the country with a greed for underhand taxpayer payments?

No chance. Where in would he go? Who would pay him even a 10th of what RTE(licene payers) are paying him?

He'd have to generate the revenue to warrant his salary anywhere else. Which would be the square root of fcuk all.

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

I’ll judged is my view- and if totally cynical, smoke and mirrors.

He got away with pedalling absolute rubbish on TLLS for years- week after week many here criticised him on the TV forum thread so we’re not alone - he’s made the mistake of what “celebrities” have done for decades- believe that their contribution matters- it doesn’t. Even Gay Byrne knew he was just treading water for the last 5 years at least of his tenure as LLS host but he likely needed the money.

He should cut his losses and run- he still has some “good will” with pockets of people up and down the country but he’ll be slaughtered in this report.

My bet is- the new DG will cut ties- I don’t think he has much of a choice- otherwise it will look like “ much of the same”

Withholding tax, VAT and income tax are all different. Withholding tax typically applies to individuals invoicing public bodies. It's a strange idea and I think was only brought as some were getting paid by public bodies but then hiding part of all of this income from Revenue. So the public body deducts withholding tax when paying the invoice and then this tax credit is claimed back annually. If such a trader is fully tax compliant anyway, it makes no difference. VAT is a different matter - post Brexit NK's company should have been charging VAT at 23% on the invoices to the barter company and then handing this to Revenue.

His overall (tv and radio) contract was up to 2025 afaik.

Then when he left the LLS, there was negotiation about his contract, but that was paused according to RTE last time they were before the committee.

Have any pictures emerged of Tubs and NK at the airport before flying to London for talks with TV execs there?

    Any of them in London?

Did we not hear talk of a verbal contract for radio and that was why he was still being paid?

Is it possible that there was just talk of a separate radio contract but no verbal contract?

The BBC's offer letter got lost in the deluge of letters from well wishers no doubt.

Ah sure aren't they all bona fide celebrities, as people would have us all believe?🙄

Think this is why so many have switched off from RTE ' entertainment', and I emphasise that as opposed to News and Current Affairs.

They have been on his shows multiple times over the years with nothing new to say, just publicity for fellow contractors.

Its this self publicising and congratulatory mutual adoration society that has them all thinking they are " talent" and getting /negotiating massive salaries over and above what they are worth.

I think all those who have been on his shows should be put to the bottom of the list for future exposure on RTE.

Sick of the sight of them.

The O'Keefe package could be the next big story from this whole scandal. There is a big stink emerging from it and nobody seems to have any details.

I can see why Siun fired Forbes 2 weeks ago but Forbes need to start talking. This scandal will run and run for months.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,538 ✭✭✭jmcc

Sponsor his show? No. But if the show has an audience and the figures are there, advertisers might still buy ads. However, RTE may have to offer them at a discount if too many decide not to advertise.

This mornings hearing in the PAC was far more impactful long term I would suggest than the RT/NK circus a couple of days ago. Apart from belatedly handing over a paper trail, all they basically said respectively & repeatedly was 'I'm a great guy, everyone loves me, I'm not very smart and the man beside me has the smarts' and 'I was told to do this by RTE'.

This morning you could see and hear the frustration in the committee about not getting the full story from RTE. That NK had provided a paper trail, that RTE disputed some of this but could not back themselves up with evidence or the appropriate witnesses.

And what about if you pay the plumber in advance for a job that he doesn't do ? ?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,276 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

I am not sure at this stage 😁.

There's been that many variations in the stories. Someone should make a musical out of all of it...oh no, wait... 😁

They might as well rename it Noel Kelly Eireann.

He obviously has more influence in there than anyone else, including the DG. He's admitted playing a large part in getting a chef their own program which furthers the chefs and his commercial interests. Its reasonable to assume he influences what guests go on the LLS. Three of his clients are on one 2FM show and one of those uses the show to regularly further her own/NKs commercial interests.

As long as NK has anything to do with RTE no licence fee will be paid by me.

He announced his departure from TLLS in March. Goes to show how utterly inept RTÉ are that they didn’t have a new contract for radio only ready to go on June 1st.

Near the end of June when the **** hit the fan they were still negotiating it. He shouldn’t have been allowed on the radio without a proper contract.
