My money's on NK. I can't see how Tubridy would be in any position to ruin her career (whereas NK very possibly could),

Many a 'talent' wasn't good at Maths. The most honest man in Ireland, would you believe, has difficulty with numbers.

I think that arrangement is sometimes called Bogus Self Employment?? If you're on a guaranteed rate as a contractor and have a fixed income, that implies one business entity is your source of work?

Allows them to avoid pension and redundancy obligations etc. while all your eggs are in one basket. You are exposed.

I'm also self employed but with multiple customers. I'm only as good as my last customer and there are no guarantees at all when a new financial year starts in January, every year is different. But very unlikely that all my customers evaporate. That's real self employment.

Tubridy is not self employed as far as I can see, he has some business entity that handles his income from various sources, did he say 600K annually. He'd draw a salary down from this on which he'd pay regular tax and then the business would be investing in this and that to minimise tax and paying corporation tax on what's left.

I tell ye all, a really big surprise for me was that the dole now pays 140k per annum😲

I was yapping to a mate today who runs his own business. He was saying that it isn't at all unusual to be instructed to issue invoices with different services to those provided.

He said he might sometimes deliver training and the company might ask him to invoice them for safety consulting work. The reason being that there might be money left in the safety budget but none left in the training budget. He didn't care too much as he's getting paid so he would do write the invoice in the client asked as it was feckall to do with him what pot of money he got paid out of.

The Ciaran Cannon questions around the under writing by RTÉ of the 75k payments- do you think NK answered those questions effectively?

Not sure he did myself - the agreement was clearly a “we get paid regardless of what Renault do or don’t do” - I don’t think he wanted to be completely candid on this part of the contract- it was obviously a significant part of the overall financial agreement and financial package for Tubridy but he didn’t want to admit this in my view.

Would make for a good laugh.

    You earn 100k and take a 40% pay cut. You now earn 100k - 40k = 60k.

    Or

    You earn 100k and take a 20% cut in year one. You now earn 100k - 20k = 80k.

Year 2 you are asked to take another 20% pay cut on your already lower 80k salary. You now earn 80k - 16k = 64k.

Taking another 20% off the lower figure of 80k will not give the same result as taking 40% off the original 100k because 20% of 80k is lower than 20% of 100k.

The opened very well in fairness to you. I had a feeling they'd run out of steam.

One question they didn't ask ( I think ). Noel Kelly and Ryan Tubridy said they thought the payment from the Astus company in the UK was from renault. They said they never had a payment from that company before so why would they think RTE were using it.

However, earlier in the day didn;t some TD say that RTE had paid for a table at a charity gig that NK organised through the ASTUS company ? If thats the case, how would NK know RTE paid for a table without them telling him at the time that they were using the ASTUS account ?

    Surprised someone didn;t spot this.

It was spotted, when Alan Dillon tried to dig further they denied everything and gave yet another spoof answer about RTE. I got the impression that because it wasn't certain what the details of the arrangement were, that Dillon decided his time would be better spent on other areas.

To be fair to Tubridy I don't think he's a nasty person. I couldn't see him ruining a career. Look he got caught out being over paid and lecturing to the rest of us. But when the enquiries are over I'd wish him well. I hope he gets into some employment. I don't know about RTE, it would have to be on a smaller scale. But I don't wish him ill and don't think he's a terrible human or anything.

We need perspective with crime like beating a partner, rape, abuse, murder etc. When this is over let him be.

Sure, can see that happening with creative management of budgets. The problem for RT and NK though is that RT publicly claimed he took a pay cut, whilst getting the balance from this 'other budget'. This other budget they pretended was Renault Ireland but one way or another, it was actually from an RTE 'other budget'. Therefore he and they were lying to the public. It was a greedy little scam and they and RTE exec are caught out with lies to the public and ordinary RTE payroll staff. You get fired for that.

Bizarrely, there is no second contract. The three party arrangement is not underpinned or enforceable as RTE never signed it.

Imagine, one of either of those two idiots came up with this and thought it was a good idea to say it.

I'm trying to think off the top of my head people who've been rehabilitated. I look at TD Lowry in Tipp. Denis O'Brien ignored a tribunal's findings. There are a lot more but off the top of my head.

I actually think there's a nastier element to some of Pat Kenny's behaviour over the years. I'm not condoning Tubridy's wrong but at some stage perspective will have to be put on it.

Interviewing intelligent people as RT has over the years does not by default make himself intelligent!

Silence would have served him well!

I would say it was Tubs. I remember when that lady from Mayo (Aoibheann No Sullivan I think) broke up with Tubs, she didn't want to know about him afterwards.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

@batman 75: You said "Tubridy up till recently was the luckiest person in the country. Getting a wage which vastly exceeded what he brought to the table". I should have thought that the commercial revenues brought in by Tubridy-presented shows was a large multiple of his earnings from RTE. This was stated in today's hearings and was not rebutted.

He would state his commission from the 75 k invoices I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,260 ✭✭✭✭Water John

NK wouldn't disclose the settlement with Operation Transformation. Said it was due to an NDA.

Did it go down again in 2017 by 20% or is that where I lost it ?
