What time will they be hitting the final climb today? Around 3pm?

  • Registered Users Posts: 60 ✭✭cosalofa

They'll be arriving in Clermont which is at the bottom of the climb at 4.55 if they average 40kmh.

A whole lot of crap in one post there. As pointed out to you already he was competitive in sprints and came second in one sprint. He had bike trouble during the stage which was televised and it does happen that people have mechanicals, why would he fake it. He clearly had to sit down before getting back up and going a second time.

He wasn't aiming for intermediate points so why you bring that up is bizarre. He won the green jersey only 2 years ago and a stage in the Giro this year but no doubt you'll pick on the lack of competition. The fact is that he can only race against who's lined up in the race.

I'm not a fan of sprints or Cav but he deserves the respect for what he's achieved. Yes the British media is tough to listen to but hey he's British.

I will miss Cav as I liked the way he sprinted... wont miss the OTT Eurosport stuff though even making allowances for a reasonable sense of national partisanship. But it seems like detached commentary is old fashioned these days in sport in general.

I see UAE will not be co-operating with Netflix for season 2 of Unchained. To be more specific they have said they will treat them like all other media whatever that means.

I'll bite, but since your first post about the Tour, most of them have been nonsense:

Others have said that they saw Cavendish's chain post-race.

Everyother cyclist had a chance on those sprints, but this year there is one sprinter head and shoulders above others. There would have been other chances and there's a decent chance that something small will go wrong for Philipsen on one of those days.

Who cares about the Intermediate sprints?

He's not currently rated as best or even close to been best by anyone. So I don't know what you mean by him being "overrated". He's rated as being good enough to possibly win a stage.

"Easier for Cav" - have some respect for the sheer amount of hard work needed for him to get to his current level.

    Right, moving on from Cav…….

I’ve finally been subjected to the team bus on Eurosport. What a load of shite

His current level is the same as my current level. On a couch with a cupan tae waiting for to watch todays proceedings from afar.

He never looked like winning a stage, disagree all you want but a couple of bike lengths distant second to someone pulling up is a lot different to a photo finish and that was his best performance because the other efforts at sprints were much worse when he didn't even have a supposed mechanical.

Really hard to predict todays' stage. Will Pogacar and Vingegaard be conservative as they've both had their asses handed to them. Pogacar is the one though who has the most to be afraid of, fitness-wise. It doesn't mean that he'll play safe though. For once I hope he does ride conservatively, until the end at least.

I think though that Jumbo will ramp up the pressure while keeping Vingegaard in his comfort zone and hope that Pogacar will crack. I fear that it will work as well.

Interesting that UAE are involved in blocking and letting the breakaway get away. Don't think that I've seen them do this before. They want it to be as easy a day as possible for Pogacar?

That makes sense from Astana's perspective. The deal has worked out great for them so far and given cycling is essentially marketing (or sportswashing whatever you want to call it), keeping their brand up there for another 12 months in will be won't he greatest of all time discussions is well worth it

People don't believe it because Cavendish always has a mechanical or a pot hole or whatever.

I know he got good results this Tour but I think he was nowhere near actually winning a stage.

But the issue isn't really whether or not he was doing ok. It's the amount of going on about him we have to listen to. Media needs to be a bit more professional than just going on all day about our national riders. It's really not professional to pretend guys can win races they can't.

The Presenters superimposed into a Team bus getting instructions on the days Stage, lame enough.

Gonna be interesting to see how much time the breakaway gets, they have numbers and some strong riders in the group.

Today's front page of L'Equipe that's been referenced a few times on commentary:

"I think he was nowhere near actually winning a stage."

That's clearly not true though. Was so close the other day and he didn't have a proper team for sprinting. Him doing another year isn't unthinkable, especially being Olympic year.

Media has been talking a lot about him because Cav he's by far the biggest cyclist left going for the record. Its not a surprise.

E: Astana offered him a deal for next year apparently

Jonas is a bit far back in the peloton considering jumbo are pacing on the front, although Pog is closer to him, just seems like a bit of a strange position leading into the climb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,676 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Well if he doesn't have a proper team for sprinting then that adds to my reasoning for him not getting close to winning.

Wow... what a ride up the final climb by Woods for his first TDF stage win at 36!

Super early for Pog to go, but looks like Jonas is struggling already

Shame we’re probably not going to see any GC action again until next Friday

I have to lodge a complaint with the fashion police about Robbie McEwen's shirt on Eurosport-GCN :(

Doesn't bode well for Vingegaard if he lost Pogacar's wheel so quickly on a stage that didn't favour Pogacar. Jumbo lost everyone quite quickly as well.

2-1 to Pogacar with the momentum with Pogacar.

Vingegaard will be stronger as the days go by just like last year.

I still think he will win.
