Most companies have clear guidelines in place as to what is and isn't acceptable. At the very minimum most full time contracts require you not to work for anyone else without clearing it first with management. Most workplaces have clear guidelines in place as to what level or entertainment or gifts can be accepted without prior approval. These are basic level requirements that ensure that your employee is working for you and is not conflicted by a relationship with a third party.

You would expect RTE to have these guidelines in place and if they do they should be reminding staff about them regularly and that they need to be complied with. The use of a car for six years is a significant monetary benefit that should definitely require prior approval (and frankly is at a level where you would expect that approval would be refused).

Timmy Dooley is being very disingenuous in choosing which issue is good and which issue is bad. To me it comes back to whether RTE's Corporate Governance and financial controls are fit for purpose. It's these lack of controls that have RTE not sure who has a car and which allow a barter account by used to conceal payments to contractor.

So just to be clear, Did Marty use the free car for his work with RTE? Did he pay out of his own pocket for the fuel and any wear and tear? Did Marty or Renault cover the tax and insurance on the car? I assume he did dig into his own pocket to cover the running of the car, otherwise RTE would surely have him off air for "editorial reasons" until the matter was cleared up. The last thing they need is another drip feed of bad news, yet it feels like there is more negative stuff to come out

BIK and tax etc etc is hardly new policies, they have been around years and he had a deal with BMW before so knew all about it…unless he wasn’t declaring the BMW deal as well

Exactly like your posts on this topic and on the radio forum.

You add nothing but your outrage.

    Right on dude

Marty Morrissey and Tubs are already history, the greedy b*stards, hopefully to never be employed by the STATE broadcaster again. Trust is gone.

To put it in context, there was a young lad in the heatwave in a well known supermarket chain here in Ireland, he was thirsty and took a can of soft drink without paying for it and drank it. He was caught AND fired.

He was on the minimum wage or not much more. Then you see what the greedy gobs*ites like Morrissey and Tubs and Noel Kelly and others with snouts in the state trough get away with. Tip of the iceberg is all we have seen so far..

Marty thinks firing out a small statement, drop the car off and he has done his bit

in reality he has a lot of questions to answer and he should be getting ahead of this

the image of him and Geraldine flashing the cash is not helping his case

I haven’t a Ronnie Drew who you are. If I’m annoying you that much then I’d suggest you pop me on ignore and stop taking the internet so seriously. Can’t be good for your blood pressure.

Naive or he knew exactly what he was doing

As I keep saying he had a deal with BMW before so either he has been doing this for year or more likely he got hit with big tax on the BMW deal and seen this as a little loop hole

All speculation of course, I’m sure Marty will clear it up

Hmmm…… seems to be a lot of chaff going around on MSM to kind of trivialise this ‘loan of a car’ stuff.

As I see it as an employee of a State Broadcaster who has a public profile, to accept use of cars from a company is putting yourself in hock to them whether or not you ever even mention them on air or in other circles.

As I said previously the car companies are not idiots, they know that, and employees of RTE should know that as a Public Service broadcaster, they should steer clear of these kind of offers for obvious reasons.

It is fraught with problems that casts a shadow on impartiality in RTE which is paramount in what the taxpayer expects from the State broadcaster.

It cheapens the credibility of the person accepting it , no matter what role, and raises the question of how endemic the practise is throughout the company.

Lets not try to trivialise it as seems to be happening on MSM.

So what? If the company feels Thomas is a worthy brand ambassador and she’s paying what she owes regarding tax etc then what is the issue?

This moral outrage is getting tiresome tbh. No one would turn down the use of a new free car if it was offered to you.

Its galling to turn on the TV and see the likes of Ryan Tubridy & Marty Morrissey telling the rest of us how to live and put up with things and they & others in RTE riding the state bareback - no wonder Marty is always going round with a big cheesy grin!

I hope we dont have to look at this greedy creep at the Hurling semi finals over the weekend!

It's surprising to me, that something like that (the register of interests) was not already in place.

I suppose it demonstrates yet again how much RTE was apparently run as its own little empire, answerable to nobody.

Likewise I wonder about procedures re promotions for other companies on the premises - were there no procedures laid down at all or did the 'talent' feel they could blithely ignore them anyway if they were there!

As for the barter accounts... 🙄

Aragh Dimmy has always been a flip flopper. I take zero notice of him.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Yes Timmy Dooley from Clare didnt realise he was going to expose his fellow Clare man so hes trying to cover up for Marty now.

Never heard Morrissey telling us how to live.

    He commentated on GAA matches.

    Live the GAA life.

It's all pervasive. Resistance is futile.

    :)

If Marty had declared this there would probably be no conflict of interest. He's not likely to be called to do a news report about Renault or EV vehicles... unlike some other RTE staff who seem to have gotten goodies from Renault.

Hes plenty of soft talk to spectators on the TV interviews going into matchs etc - buttering everyone up and he taking a loan of a car for free for 5 years - no wonder hes always going round with a big grin !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,341 ✭✭✭Allinall

But does he tell them how to live, as you claimed?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 8,233 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

I think he was hinting about someone else, or he got the story of the car and didn't realise it was MM who might be implicated. I think there's more than one car, somehow.

I haven't caught up on the latest but can well imagine him backtracking, hoping to save his own backside and regain his Dail seat next time around.

Meanwhile occupying a very cushy number in the Seanad. 🙄

Suddenly reconstitution becomes rearrangement - sickening:

Incoming director general Kevin Bakhurst is set to “rearrange the front bench” in the station’s executive management, in the first act of what will be a long campaign to revive public trust in the organisation.

If they go it makes it more difficult to get them in front of PAC?

They should go afterwards, or at least the ones who were involved in their barter shenanigans.

Basically the people of Ireland are paying for a station through their license fee and were been told it was not enough , it needs to be increased etc etc

Low and behold Ryan Turbidy & others are getting ridicolous sums of money they cant keep track of & the likes of Marty Morrissey taking a loan of a new renault car for 5 years and dropping it back this week. Russia TV would hardly be as corrupt as the crew in RTE!

RICH RTE FAT CATS LAUGH AT TAX PAYERS !!
