They're trying to find a way to shred every trail of evidence. Buying time.

It's absolute nonsense. All public and civil servants have their pay publicly known as their grade is linked to a published scale. RTE staffers should expect the same level of confidentiality, i.e. none.

    Independent has more revelations.

DF wrote to RT saying no paycuts before 2025.

RTE agreed to pay for food drink and guests at Renault event's.

PK promised 1st class flights and 4star hotel to present LLS.

Top 100 earners and the lowest is near €117k. 🤬

Essentially RTE used Barter accounts to benefit themselves and their advertisers as individuals. Instead of 100k going to the organisation for sponsoring something. We'll just say 80k went to the organisation. 10k went to presenters for sidework. 10k went back to advertisers with things like tickets for matches.

It is not their money to "Barter" with. And everybody seemed to have had a great time "bartering". Apart from the general public of course.

Checking if he's linked to any of the barter accounts

Thats it though - were any returns made? If all the transactions happened in the UK barter company, wouldn't they be making returns to the UK Inland revenue?

Maybe the only thing RTE got from the barter company was a bill for their broker fees which was probably paid through the normal AP systems. If all the other transactions were to get into RTE's books, the barter company would need to pay rte for the ad slots and then invoice RTE for anything purchased. Like any normal business transaction within the monetary system, auditors wouldn't miss those records year after year and why would Collins not know about them?

I'd say they're in sensory overload on reading the latest round of revelations

The antics of RTE's senior management reminds me of what must have went on during the last days of the Ancien Regime in France just before the 1789 Revolution.

    They partied on regardless........

Are you saying that files may not be found or go missing?

I've no issue with the Patrick Kielty flights and hotel. He's travelling from London - seems a non-item. Are they trying to water down the other items? Or goad PAC into questioning them around it so they can buy time.

Could be a fire in the Rte records department tonight 🤔

😂 Hi Noel, will you be my agent?

Tomorrow should be good. Let's try and get some semblance of truth from them but inevitably the Board need to be replaced. Unfit for duty.

I wonder did Catherine Murphy have inside sources when she asked how many barter accounts they had. She has had good sources in the past re the superquango Irish Water.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

I can see why these barter accounts are used for trading unsold advertising etc and paying the 35 percent for the service of matching advertisers with available slots at short notice.

I fear we will find when all this comes out that perfectly saleable advertising slots were being run through the barter company for the singular purpose of funding dodgy spending and that is a far more serious issue because that would involve paying 35 percent just to hide the transaction as well as selling advertising slots at reduced rates, all just to keep the slush fund rolling.

385k to tubridy paid via the slush fund could possibly have cost closer to 1 million if funded with needlessly cheaply sold advertising slots and 35% fee on top.

More like Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned, with RT asking for another tune.

RTE once actually did have a hard left element until a cadre of FF youth wing types, including Joe Duffy and Mary McAleese, got their foot in the door and diluted their influence.

    🙈🙉🙊

117k per year 21 - 31 presenters. RTÉ don't make much TV and don't have very many High profile presenters I am guessing

    • 2 of the 2fm Breakfast hosts (I don't think Mullen would be on that)
    • The 3 presenters from RTÉ one's Today show, I am guessing that Thelma and Derek were doing well back in the day and AFAIK Derek pretty much admitted as much with out saying much
    • the 5 presenters of the Morning Ireland and Drivetime
    • The presenter of the Ronan Collins show (GDPR and all)
    • At least 5 actors from Fair City
    • The main presenters of Six One, Nine News and One O'Clock
    • one or two of the Sports analysis and hosts. (and definitely the one on Lyric FM)
    • Potential a few of the 2fm hosts (The 2 Jennys and the 2 Johnnies)
    • The host of Marty in the Morning!

Note almost everything is either Radio or News.

    ______

In the end they were just greedy, they all knew one another and knew what to expect more money for no return, it was a secure cash flow, but in fairness they looked for what they wanted and fair dues to them for that, and wouldn't you be doing the same!

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

Noel Kelly's accounts should be audited asap. There is no way he only made 400k last year with the creative accounting and fees he recommends. Get Revenue in there too.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Also if the RTE income for different years was reduced because advertising slots were sold at reduced rates, its no surprise that Dee Forbes was forever on about RTE losing money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 8,447 ✭✭✭MrMusician18

That's a very important question that needs to be asked or more properly - investigated.

If RTE were putting prime advertising slots into the barter exchange rather than the dregs with the aim being to keep this black account "in the black" so it could fund endless corporate jollies then that is a big story. It may even be criminal?

I paid the full licence last month before all this broke.

Long shot but anyone know if it's possible to cancel it, get partial refund and take my chances?

Drew Harris said AGS can't get involved until somebody makes a complaint to them.

    Can anyone make that complaint?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,867 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

One slight correction. The salary scales are published but most people wouldn't know where someone else was on the salary scale unless they knew when they started.

For instance, I'm a public servant and my salary scale is published but you wouldn't know where I was on the scale so therefore you wouldn't know how much I'm earning.

I'd disagree with your assertation that public servants deserve no confidentiality when it comes to their wages. Most people's wages should be their own private business.

That's like saying they can't investigate a murder because the deceased hasn't made a formal complaint. 😂

Did you use your Post Office Deposit Account as a Barter account? If not sorry you paid up, and it will help go towards Severance pay on the Executive board.

Also I remember when Moya Doherty joined the board, she said she could do more than 3 years, end up their for 8, she should have taken her own advice. Also remember that Alex White, then minister, cycled to her house to offer her the job, suppose 2 old RTÉ Stickies from RTÉ... I would have though Joe Duffy was a Sticky TBH.
