Stokes out first ball he faced! Big wicket for Australia.

A sleepy looking shot... not a bad delivery but he won't look back on the effort with much satisfaction...

Mach situation really could have done with him hanging around... England now still 130 behind...5 down... need a partnership... can't afford the Australian team to have a 60-70 lead which with the long English tail... if one of these gets out its possible...

Brook... sorry stupid shot....match situation and you go into T20 mode ?! Trying to step to leg and hooking ! Baszball or BS ball....?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭MFPM

Yep awful shot but it had been coming. Aussies bowling well here but they can't keep it up, England need patience to see off the short ball spell.

Really tame dismissal by Bairstow. The pressure that Starc and Cummings had built had just loosened with Hazelwood and Greene bowling. England throwing their advantage away!

Bairstow misstimes a drive... an awful shot again.

The Aussies haven't bowled badly but they've been given some assistance...

England could really do with another 40 here but that's a tough get given who is left to bat...

good to see stokes playing bazball

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭MFPM

Robinson caught behind. Tongue comes to the crease with the Aussies 92 ahead.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭MFPM

Broad gone too...the end is nigh!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭MFPM

325 all out. Australia lead by 91. England at one point were 182/1!! Interesting to see how they bowl now..

England lost 6 wickets for 40 odd runs in 15.2 overs. Ridiculously poor cricket.

some serious questions have to be asked about their leadership…these tactics….

they are 1-0 down in the series.. it’s going to take a fûcking miracle to avoid 2-0…

Legitimate questions over the English team in terms of ability but when leadership, when temperament and general savvy is added …that’s quite an issue…

Broad now trundling in bowling gentle 79/80/81 mph deliveries ….Anderson hitting 82/83….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,860 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

warner really struggling here against broad. you could see from the 2nd ball when he tries to scramble a single how uncomfortable he is

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,025 ✭✭✭Sultan of Bling

Broad and Anderson with some beautiful deliveries at the start of the the 2nd innings

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,635 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

so basically, just chuck in some short balls, and bye bye Bazball.

    so ridiculously naïve.

series whitewash if that stupidity keeps going.

England abysmal this morning. This game is likely gone now and so will the rest of them if they continue to play the short ball like that. Australia have the blueprint now.

That’s what I’m thinking, English won’t win a match with this headbanger mindset.

    😵‍💫

McCullum was appointed English head coach on the back of what ? His international coaching experience = nil

his club / franchise coaching… Kolkata Knight Riders … less then a year. He is a 41 year old guy.

He's a classic case of ideology over everything else.

Pep Guardiola isn't brilliant because the style of his football is brilliant, it's because it wins.

The All Blacks weren't revered in rugby because they played brilliant rugby. it was because it was winning rugby.

Novak Djokovic isn't the greatest tennis player of all time because he's exciting to watch. it's because he wins more than anyone else.

It's not good cricket if it's what causes you to lose.

Over the course of Test matches, you will get found out against good sides. You have to adapt. Just leave some balls. I saw a stat yesterday that Ben Duckett didn't leave any of his first 100 balls, and it was revered. It's absolutely, mind-numbingly stupid. In Test cricket, if you as a bowler know the batsman is going to swing at anything, you're going to be able to figure it out eventually. And short balls, no matter how good you are - you're going to mistime one eventually.

Lyon went off injured at 182-1 with England batting very nicely and Australia shortly afterwards went to the short ball ploy. It was all there for England as Australia couldn't bowl short all day and with no Lyon to fall back on, they just had to see it out but no the ego and "that's the way I play" took over and it was a brain dead catastrophe really.

Sure Bazball is all about entertainment and getting bums on seats, but lose an Ashes series 5-0 at home and see where that gets you. Results are everything. Sure the results last year were fantastic for England and that approach blindsided convential wisdom but you can't ever play just one way and presume the opposition will lie down and take it. Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood are proven test match bowlers and trying to slog them on a continuous basis is only going to end one way.

Australia negotiate the first 11 overs without much difficulty. One delivery ran close to the stumps but there has been nothing of any danger or difficulty…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Crawley looking like a mug with his silly prediction, the England tail is really long too, Broad should be getting more runs, but he just slogs his wicket away every time he bats, the rest can't bat

Australia 172 ahead and a truck load of batting remaining. England look slightly more threatening in a handful of those overs before tea but until threatening becomes actual wickets….

Even if Australia only put on around another 240.. that’s setting England 412 in the fourth innings for victory…

when they’ve only got a par ish score against a team who for a reasonable portion of the innings were without one of their their frontline bowlers….

successfully chasing down say 412 would be the 3rd highest successful 4th innings run chase ever.

England need to skittle these and fast.

First delivery after tea…an Anderson half tracker…4

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,764 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Then Stokes refuses to review a plumb lbw shout. His bowler was convinced. Crashing into leg.. how can the slip, Stokes see better than the bowler ?

a 200 lead and 9 wickets remaining… England are done.

as I type, Anderson gets Labuschagne… poor shot

Hahah some spanner on the BBC sport page "you think going at 2 runs an over is going to get the next generation into cricket , no chance". Idiot. Winning gets people into things , people are inspired by winners not trying to baseball 4s. Idiots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,862 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

2 runs an over is grand for a session, if they are looking to accelerate later, it won't be 2 an over. The chap either doesn't watch cricket or he could be referring to England's scoring rate this morning, lost 6/47 in 98 balls

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,755 ✭✭✭lbunnae

It was 3 anyway when he said it. Hahahah maybe he was referring to that haha

    IMG_3461.jpeg

    This was Lyon arriving today.

The noises coming out of the Australian camp are not positive…. A ‘serious calf strain’ the report…. Pic doesn’t look positive. You won’t go from not being able to walk unaided to bowling in a test match in ten days…

3-6 weeks is the general recovery period expectation but at the upper end of serious, a surgery might be needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,764 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

God the English bowling attack is so piss weak.

Tongue is their only legitimate quick. The Aussies are leaving him alone and attacking/being positive against the other three medium pacers.

looked like a net session at times… no slips, no close catchers. 🙄

considering the Australians have 7 wickets in hand and a 278 lead, England are fecked.

Australia declare around tea they’ll have a lead of around 440….

wont be enough time left for a successful chase but will be enough time to bowl England out…

Broad gets Smith ! Need a couple more and fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73 ✭✭Drifter100

Simply because Broad thinks everything is out and demands reviews from the captain. As skipper you get sick of that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,860 ✭✭✭✭y0ssar1an22

thats a shocking drop by anderson from head's 1st ball
