After 3 years and 50.000kms my ID.3 58kWh has for first time showed 423km of predicted range and I think this would be doable. It seems that last software upgrade has genuinely improved range more than battery age has reduced it.

Very impressive, my 77kWh ID.4 wouldn't do much more than that.

Well we have two new tyres and no Goodyears. Charged 200 for a service. 🙄

My 2011 58kw ID3 shows 430kms of predicted range today. In with dealer on 10th july fo 5 days for 3.2 upgrade and battery module replacement. Will be interesting to see if modules are faulty. Mileage of 33.000kms.

Anyone ever had issues with this particular charger type?

    Screenshot_20230630_082323_ecar connect.jpg

I was almost stranded last night. Had to make 2 unplanned trips from Donegal to Coleraine last night and then went for dinner in Portrush.

Slow charger beside the restaurant had been in use for almost the 8 hour limit so I decided to go to the rapid after dinner.

Arrived to the charger and it wouldn't start. Another driver told me that his wife drove an ID4 and her car would never charge there and he had heard it was an issue with all IDs.

When you put the plug in, you normally hear that little buzz/click as the car locks the plug. With this unit I'd hear the buzz but no click, then it would try again half a dozen times and then fail.

I eventually got it to work after about 20 attempts by holding the plug at various slightly different angles, pushing it in tight, holding it a fraction out etc.

Otherwise I was screwed. I realised as I was about to give up and go wait for the slow charge that I had taken the cable out of the car and forgot to put it back...

I haven't used that particular one but its a general problem that some chargers are sensitive to bad contact on the pilot signal that causes it to not be able to start the session.... wiggling/moving it, like you did, at the start to get it to complete the handshake is the solution.

They should be made more robust to not be so fickle. Some Ionity chargers suffer from this too. I dont think its an ID problem.

I bought a 145 bhp version in 2021. Honestly it's great and I don't ever have a point where I wish I had more hp. Very good acceleration around the city and on longer trips I'm more concerned about conserving the range so no issue there either. So day to day absolutely no issue. But if you want more acceleration in the mid range, sure.

    FYI

I had the ID.3 recall done this week for the "93P7: Check and replace battery module". No issues with mine but talking to them it isn't actually a problem with bad modules per se.

It appears that some battery packs had a seal problem and let water in, which caused the modules then to go bad, so what they have to do is pop off the cover, see if there is water ingress and if there isn't then just seal it back up. If there is water ingress they then have to do more detailed tests to see if any are damaged as a result.

Got 3.2 upgrade as well in the process. 2 days work, but they had it booked in for 3 days and gave me an ID.4 in the meantime to whet my appetite for an upgrade. I'll pass on that though!

EDIT: I also had an issue with my charge port door. The actuator wouldn't work so it wouldn't release the door. They replaced the actuator under warranty also. Seems that actuator is a common problem on VW's (even ICE cars). I dont know why they have an actuator on that at all as its an unnecessary part that is just another part to break and it leaves you stranded when it happens as you cant open the door to charge the car!

Probably a noobie question, so apologies in advance. My 202 ID.3 1st edition (~14k miles) is booked in for a service/ software upgrade next month. Can I use the mobile app to check what version the car is currently on? (Or can I only do from the physical car console)

Anybody have issues with reversing sensors? Every few days says to clean rear sensors. Cleaned them several times without success. 2021 ID3 pro. Intermittent fault.

Have it on one of the front ones, intermittent, seems like a common fault, will get it replaced when car goes in for 3.2. Pro s

I am trying to charge at a campsite in France at the moment. It’s a 22 kw charger and the Id.3 is flashing up ‘charging cancelled - consult vehicle wallet’. I tried reducing ac current but that only worked for a minute and then that stopped also.

    any ideas?

Hard to tell but I’d say faulty charge point.

Is the charge point just plug n play or does it have an app associated with it?

Ask the campsite if others have successfully used it in the last week.

Can you not use a granny charger at your accommodation? Otherwise go to the nearest town with a large supermarket, they nearly all have charging facilities.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 14,357 ✭✭✭✭fits

No We didn’t bring granny charger cable and wouldn’t want to anyway with different plugs. and yes we could go to a public chargepoint but charging here would be handy if we could get it to work. Especially as we have a mega drive back up to Normandy on Saturday. Would be handy to leave here with 100%

Have you had the 3.2 update installed?

It might be related to the ‘charge delayed’ problem I had after the update. pulling a fuse to reset the car’s charger fixed it, see the last post here: https://myenergi.info/charge-delay-with-id3-sw-3-2-t9807.html

The box is top right under the bonnet, the photo in the link is lhd. Here's a photo of mine:

    Might be worth a try.

It seems water got into the chargepoint and it’s faulty. Shame. Would have been handy.

Just back from 2 weeks in France, most lidl's have a 22kw ac/ 150kw dc chargers available. Chargepoint app can be used to initiate the charge for 25c kWH.

It’s at Ionity at moment drawing 143 kw! Never saw it that high before. It’s very warm here which is probably helping and it was at 10%.

I have it on mine too, I thought it would be covered under warranty but VW claiming it is a stone chip according to UK facebook page.

In for its service next month, will be interesting as I have many cars with sensors and never this issue.

He’s on that Ionity passport subscription you can cancel. cost 26 euro for 54 kw. Would have been 37 euro without the subscription.

Appears great value for a 77kWh high spec ID.3.

Presume you have tried VW? Or have they stopped buying back?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,206 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Doesn't quite "include everything" as per the ad... No area view.

That said its in great shape and very well priced. Depressing for me mind you.

That’s a serious amount of car for the money, full fat id3 that will go anywhere in Ireland without needing to public charge, matrix to boot- are you staying electric @cloudhopper19 ?
