Hello all, hoping somone may be able to offer me some advice as regards what tools i should get, i want to be able to change the cassette on my bike and also the chainset, the components are shimano ultegra 6800 11speed compact and i want to change to a standard. and 11speed 11-32 cassette which i want to change to a 11-28. if anyone could point me in the right direction i would be gratefull thanks, feel free to offer advice on where to get chainset and cassette also if u can and any other advice would be fully appreciated.

U don't have to change the chainset unless there's something wrong with it?

You'll need a chain whip, and a cassette locknut tool.

You'll also need a chain breaker and a new chain.

Edit: just noticed you want to change the chainset to a standard...all you need is a 5mm Allen key to remove the chainset.

Only a week ago I saw Aldi had a bike tool kit for sale. I bought it as it was cheap 21,99 and It has all the tools compatible with Shimano. Cassete, Hollowtech BB tool, chain breakers,etc. Great value at that

Aldi's chain whip is rubbish and the lock nut is made from cheap grade steel and gets chewed easily. The chain breaker is actually ok and works well.

I ended up buying park tools chain whip and cassette locking nut tool separately and the quality between the them
and Aldi tools is not comparable.

OP buy the tools as you need them and buy quality tools that you'll always have.

Depends on how much wear are on each component.
Changing a cassette usually means a new chain.
Changing a chainset only usually would not require a new chain, as chainsets don't wear as quickly as cassettes.

I find having a chain pliers to very useful for taking the chain off, and find it a PITA without.

9 years later just picked it up for a tenner cheaper, cant argue with that.

Im very happy with it aswell, chain breaker on it worked perfectly and I wouldnt have blinked if you told me that on its own was the price of this kit.

Only negative is the 2 silver wrenches are a bit flimsy but I can replace those from my own stock...

That's cool.. In France now. Decathlon 12km away. You could spend the day in there. Seriously tight with weight for the flight home but if I have 500g spare I will pop into Decathlon on the way to the airport. Although I'm sure can be ordered from Decathlon Ireland anyway.

It can be ordered in Ireland. I just happened to be in France when I spotted it (and didn't know such a tool existed until I saw it). Maybe I'm a bit cack-handed, but I always found chain whips an issue!
