    Just reading on Facebook lots of people having problems charging on esb due to new minimum balance rules. Unless your current balance is 20+ euro charging won't work.

    Most users NEED to take action. Where it says "5" above this value needs to be set up 20 minimum, and automatically add needs to be at least 10. In my case charging would have not worked so I manually topped up my account and changed the 5 to a 20. I expect thousands of users will have this issue as it looks like their app did not change these values to new minimum when the rule change came in.

    I would suggest to automatically add €20 when the balance is below €20. The way you've set it up, if your balance was €21 and you use €12 to charge your car, your balance will then fall to €9 and automatically adding only €10 will bring your account balance back to €19 and you won't successfully charge the next time as it's below the €20 minimum threshold ...

    Ran into this at the weekend there. On the phone its obvious. It says there's not enough credit to start the charge, and to top up. Using the card is a different story. It just does nothing, no feedback, just doesn't start charging. No doubt it'll catch out a few less technical folks.


    In the mean time, CHAdeMO usage falling off a cliff!

    ...while tethered AC unusually jumped. Not that I think that there is a correlation between the two as AC does not equate to DC charging. But could it be a sign that there are just more CCS vehicles in use and AC may have become a stand-by option, or way of reserving your spot and taking a small charge, while you're waiting for either Chademo or CCS to become available...?

    I wonder if they are correlated somewhat. There were a fair number of Leafs back in the day that camped on a Chademo for the whole day because a) it's free and b) your in the only EV for 100km

    I think bringing in charges killed that down here but it was continuing up North a lot

    Perhaps recently a bunch of them switched to AC to avoid the overstay fee?

    And in case anyone is wondering why I'm singling out the Leaf, there weren't really any other EVs around that used DC charging at the time 😉

    I used do this a lot when I was reliant on eCars 50kw units. Not so much for the small charge bump, but to reserve the next CCS use.

    Thankfully charging options have grown a lot in the last 18 months so would only use eCars a couple of times a month.

    Has to be a glitch in their system. 4 units basically in use all day. That's likely propped up the AC43 usage.

    Good time to take it down now that's it's almost July and nobody outside Waterford definitely would never even dream on coming over to visit the Copper Coast and that greenway. Waterford is just a small village so that one unit just sits idle all the time anyway.

    The way I'll take it if I ever need a charge there is that I'll take one of the other spots first, but if thats the last one, I'm going to charge there, Wont be leaving the car anyway.

    Yeah I'm a bit baffled with these as well. I would never, ever park in a disabled spot but I'm torn here if it's allowable or if it's solely for a disabled person to charge here. Or is it a "normal" disabled spot which then brings it back to a 3 car layout for 4 charging spots.

    ESB don't make things easy for themselves.

    Such disabled spots will be wildly abused if chargers are busy. Some simple signage asking drivers to stay with their cars and to prioritise disabled drivers for this bay may help. It could be a rare occurrence as qualifying disabled drivers don’t pay VAT on fuel, have free road tax and get VRT relief. In that instance, there’s little incentive for them to bother with an EV.

    I’d have absolutely no hesitation charging in that spot if all other spots are taken, but I stay with the car, and if anyone pulls up with a disabled badge, I’m immediately vacating the spot.

    Here's a flip side, what if a disabled person parks there and doesn't charge? There doesn't seem to be any signage which says it's for disabled persons charging only, so in theory it can be used as a parking space

    Now personally I'm not going to be bothered because if an elderly person with a walker frame wants to park closer to the shop and all the accessible spaces are taken. But I imagine someone coming along in their adapted EV van looking for a charge is going to be somewhat annoyed by seeing the charger blocked

    How long do you reckon the cable is on those chargers? I'm wondering if there's a car in the disabled spot and I come along in anything other than a Tesla, will the cable reach without parking on the blue area?

    EDIT: Actually it looks like the charger is closer to the left space than I thought, it looked at first like it was in front of the disabled spot and not beside it

    Speaking of long cables, I passed ESB's on-street charger down beside the old Dundrum shopping centre last night, it's where the road has been made one-way now and the parking is on the left as you drive down the street, so you can only drive in to park facing the direction of the traffic. Sorry I didn't photograph it, but there were two ID4's parked up for a charge, but the charging port is on the right side (traffic side) of the ID4 meaning that both had the cable draped over and around their vehicles and it looked like a right unsafe mess of hanging or stretched cables. I don't know what the solution is there but that's clearly less than ideal for anybody except a Kona or Leaf, etc!

    The reason I have a 10m cable for when I need to AC charge. Saved me twice in centre parcs, and was handy when AC charging was free.

    Stays in the attic though. Only brought out for road trips. Single phase too, so 7KW max.

    12 "delivered" fast chargers in Waterford by the end of CY 2023 is a great target. After the first 6 months 0 (well -1) have been done but hopefully the speed of delivery will increase sometime between now and December.

    Well they seem to think they're in Norway based on the amount of Viking monuments there, but they haven't rolled out a Norwegian style charging network either 😜

    My point was more around the extremely loose definition of a fast charger and without a stated power output it's hard to gauge how useful they'll be

    I'm hoping it's twelve 50kW units at a minimum, but if they installed a dozen 200kW units I'd be very impressed. My worry is they'll trend towards the more budget friendly option of installing a bunch of AC chargers, or installing a few triple head units and claiming the AC side as another charger (so 6 DC and 6 AC)
