anyone care to share a link for copper cat 6 cable. TIA ( so much cca stuff around that i need to avoid )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,340 ✭✭✭✭The Continental Op

Always pisses me off when you can search Amazon for say cat5e pure copper and get a load of responses that don't even have copper mentioned on the listing page. Anyway about the only cable I'm currently sure of on Amazon are the Oren brand. Do however check its what you want as the reviews indicate its a bit less flexible than other cable. Its also a bit pricey.

Wake me up when it's all over.

I've full 10G infrastructure throughout the place so I'd make plenty good of it for sure!

To be honest it's upload speed I want more than anything. Have a lot of family that want access to my Plex library xD

A bit ridiculous you would have to get a 2gb line just to get 200mb upload.

I wonder why they don't offer equal upload and download like they do with fibre in other countries?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 167 ✭✭Fatal Except1on

Agreed, but coming from a 1mb upload with Imagine... I think 100mb will do just fine for now.

I ended up ordering a 1GB connection. Got a notification from eir after my order to say that installs would take place within 45 days from the time pre-orders went live, so some time within the next 25-30 days I should have fibre here.

Be prepared for delays unless your install is very very simple. Im waiting nearly 9 weeks from my install date and 15 weeks from when I preordered. Have another install date on wednesday, but at this stage im expecting another delay.

Oh dang, what has your install delayed so much?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20 Kennage

    Yep,

Our original date was June 7th, they rang earlier and got out to us Mon 29th of May, they couldn't do it they needed a digger or something said they'd be back that afternoon as he needed help but they were on another job said he'd call back later that day, a no show, no sign next day either, Called back Friday that week, did a small bit then said he couldn't do it again something to do with the Pole, they're due back tomorrow but I have very little hope they'll get it done tomorrow tbh or if they'll even show up.

Does this mean broadband will be installed soon?

It all started with what I thought was a simple solitary pole needed. It took 4 ish weeks to show up. Even though on survey, they failed to send a pole crew with a digger and tried to put it close to the road and hit rock. They said they would have to get a digger to put pole further from road or else a rock drill. A rock drill showed up another 4 ish weeks later. Pole is there now.

They have to duct now from pole to the house. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly on wednesday

Hey my friend is getting NBI through Vodafone, installers are arriving on Saturday but Vodafone haven't sent him out a Modem yet, do installers brint Modem on the day for Vodafone?

I know people who got it through Sky & they all received it through the post.

I think it might depend on the install type (SIRO/OpenEir/NBI) whether they're sent ahead of time but the installers usually have them in the van on install day too.

How did they do a duct from the pole to the house, was it through the garden or something like that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Eleusis

It is more like field than garden. The ducting was very primitive. I was expecting a duct laying machine, but instead a civil guy with a a shovel. He didn't actually dig, but instead created a v shape with a spade and put the ducting into it. About 24 meters in total. Nowhere near the required 450mm required depth( according to nbi documentation). More like 100mm. I didn't care cause I'm unlikely to ever do anything on the ground.

They were surveying on our road early this morning. Without even asking they said 2 years (rollout), I guess so many people ask the same question when they meet them they give the answer before the question is asked.

I spotted a lad surveying poles about 2 KM outside of Newport on the R503 towards Rearcross this morning. Seemed to be holding a spirit level on the side of one of the poles. 🙄

Saw a different crew far side of Cappamore, lots of people on the ground it appears.

The one I bumped into (tracked down) was up a private farm track following phone lines looking for poles. He told me he'd found a load in the area that Eir didn't have on their list.

Wake me up when it's all over.

All the poles in our exchange area were mapped, bar-coded and replaced as required prior to the open-eir's 300k rollout, even those outside the 300k.

Finally got an install date in the Athy/Ballylinan deployment area: 26th July 2023

So a little over a month to go to get installed. Very exciting!

Hi everyone living in the nenagh area , neighbours around are showing as “ready to connect”,

line runs right outside the door and we are showing as “pending survey” turns out because we are a new house ( started building 2 years ago) that we weren’t on the original plan .

I have a query open with NBI to have our eircode added , however I’ve no timeline as to when that might be .

I work from home and the Vodafone mobile broadband ( with external antenna I bought on Amazon to boost the signal) is driving me DEMENTED !

Is there anything else I can do to speed the connection along ? Anyone know how long it takes NBI to do a design review ?

Yep, I'm very aware, but Vodafone do offer 2GB as do other providers. For now I've ordered 1Gb with eir.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭amdaley28

Why wound anyone need 2Gb broadband ?

You could run a data centre with that 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 790 ✭✭✭jonnreeks

I reckon those who get the 1Gb installed, really don't care about anyone else!

    In Circet we thrust!

    😊

From experience, it will be about 6-8 months after your neighbours went "Ready to Connect". They won't survey new additions until after the original rollout in your area is completed.

NBI DP's installed locally today, Fibre strung up on the poles a few weeks ago, I'm down as October to December, I wonder will it come faster than this?

I'd say there is a good chance you get it early. DP's on poles means it's close. Likely you are on one of the early activated strings in your deployment area
