Anyone know if the trading cards have increased to 20% off ...still showing 10% online

    Anyone remember that shop "Game"

Had like a purple exterior. That was amazing. Loved visiting there

Still have a couple of them in Belfast if you're ever around that way.

They’re only operating in the UK as of many years ago now but I do remember them 😎

maybe they’ll come back? GS was afaik one of the major reasons they departed to begin with

    Up to 30% off now.

Give it a week and we have 50% off lol

Prob just seeing what they can sell as “high” as possible I guess

id say nearer the deadline it will go up to 50% off or higher

Was that on everything though? Pokemon cards were still 10% on Friday and still showing up as 10% online.....I'm all about the pokemon cards 😂

Prob won’t go down by much and I dare say the supplier will take them back without any hassle since they’ll easily move again if GS have stock left

assuming they don’t sell out regardless!

I picked up a few of the silver tempest folders last week at 10%off, as I haven't seen them anywhere else, and I had a 50 euro voucher.

Even with 20% off it does work out cheaper than smyths but marginally, but a saving is a saving.

Hoping smyths keep their prices fairly intact when they go now you mention them

likewise though keeping an eye on gamestop to clear the shelves if they go for cheap 😂

When the Henry St store close few mths back was up to 70% off stuff in store

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭Princess Calla

Smyths seem to keep their own prices.

The only times I see stuff (that we're interested in) cheaper elsewhere is when the other shop is running a limited promotion.

To be fair to Smyths they pretty much hold a monopoly, but they don't abuse it.

Email received from GS this morning. Sounds like if you have a loyalty card you get 16.99 euro credit...

Nah it’s only if you paid for the top level they’re just refunding you since the stores are closing.

HMV is taking up the 6,000 sq ft unit on 18 Henry Street in Dublin soon. It is expected to reopen it's doors in mid July.

Do Gamestop currently have the unit on 18 Henry Street Dublin as part of their store footprint?

No Gamestop was number 16 Henry Street not number 18

I visited my local shop last Friday for a browse. It will be closing for good on the 24th so I will probably make one last visit there.

So it will be Smyths on the Kinsale Road or Maylor Street for me if I want to buy in store.

So it's closing the last day as argos. Their website closes in 9 days time

Made what I suspect will be my last order online anyway. A bit worried it won’t arrive or something but we will see.

feels mad to lose Argos & GameStop at the same time tbh. I suppose both just weren’t offering a service people wanted as much these days. In fairness with Argos especially I always felt something was odd when the UK was always updating the website and services offered and we only barely changed the screens you browsed on in store. 😅

I’d say covid prob has played a part here in the long term side of things. I have a feeling they were betting on making a fortune when lockdowns were lifted and it just didn’t happen. The money lost was too great and it wasn’t being made back so it’s the only thing to do in that case.

just speculating but I wouldn’t be surprised if some other stores followed. I’m also curious about other territories, mainly for GameStop and how they’ll fare. Argos in the UK as far as I know is doing fine but GameStop has long been reported to be doing poorly especially in the US.

Could signal the end of GameStop as a whole in the near enough future.

I absolutely loved Game. Best games shop we ever had, let's be honest it was.

Especially talking around late 90s and early 2000s. Nothing but games and no other stuff. You'd walk in and new releases would be on the stand (at least in my local) you could wonder around checking out all the games from different consoles. Even had a great pc section.

I have some random fond memories of it. Such as being a kid and two staff members in the grafton street store playing greatest heavyweights on mega drive on the TV. I also remember buying deus ex for pc for next to nothing brand new. Ah sure could probably list dozens of memories.

Shame they left Ireland. I was in the Belfast store over a year ago and they had funko pops and other guff too. That's just the times I guess. But what a shop back in the day.

I think I overheard someone saying that there'll be a handful of stores in Germany, quite a few in Italy which is allegedly their best market, and that'll be it for EU. Will pop in before Saturday for a sconce on the last one in Limerick. Hope CEX give good trade prices for the PS5 with the PS5 Pro comes out.

They recently withdrew from the Swiss market. All stores have become a CeX type shop called GameLife. GS also operate in Germany, Austria, Italy and France (under Micromania). Can't see the Italian stores closing as they are everywhere there and seem genuinely popular

Possibly relevant. Italy had the slowest broadband in the EU, apparently

I've had a disaster of an experience with GameStop today. I had ordered an Xbox one S with 2 games on their website.

I got a shipment confirmation today for only the 2 games. Then I got an email saying GameStop have cancelled my Xbox One order and are refunding me the money for just the Xbox one.

So it appears they're sending me 2 Xbox one games with nothing to play them on which is stupid. I obviously don't want the games if I have nothing to play them on. I got in touch with GameStop saying I want to cancel the order of the 2 games and want a refund for them aswell but so far they haven't replied. When I put the items in the cart it was one complete order with an Xbox one console and the 2 games so anyway I'm very disappointed. Their website is a shambles really. You shouldn't be able to order items that are out of stock.

Also they shouldn't send 2 games without the console to play them on, the whole transaction should have been cancelled. It's just really lousy. I'm very frustrated with the whole thing.

Yep I just noticed their Gamestop support page was closed before I got to email them, the games are due to arrive on monday and their support is closed until Monday so it will be too late. The games were cheap but it just feels lousy to get 2 games, no console and so nothing to play them on. I feel a bit down about it really.

Popped into my local one this afternoon and it was busy there. Managed to get a Dualsense charging station for my PS5 for €15.

It will be closed for good this day next week.

You have a 14 day right of return, no questions asked, on anything you buy online.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

The games arrived on Saturday. I emailed Gamestop about it and they said as the games already arrived there was nothing they could do and I could get a refund at my local Gamestop store. The local Gamestop store and most of the other ones are already closed down. I would lose my 3.50 delivery charge anyway doing that which would make it not worth doing. I'll have to keep the games and use them whenever I get an Xbox. They wouldn't be worth selling either. I just thought it was bad form on Gamestop's part.
