Finally….. as weren’t the state paying substantial berthing fee’s for her in Dublin Port?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,795 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Do we know where her final resting place will be?

I'd assume a part of that 'deep clean' would involve removing her masts? As they add considerable height to her overall, and depending on where she'll finally be sunk, could cause issues?

What's the story with the 2nd tug on the slack line aft ? Is the rust bucket being towed dead slow?

@josip Standard practice for non-propelled tows to have a stern tug for control and manoeuvring once they are out of open sea.

She was towed by AMS Retriever from Dublin, I'm sure the assist tug just connected as she entered the river.

Also, Bargarth (stern tug) is a Voith Tractor tug so could do roughly the same speed astern as when she's going ahead.

Since she's being doing a tour of Ireland in the past few weeks, why not share a pic of what I think is the best looking superyacht afloat.

(A close run thing with Jim Ratcliffe's "Scout" and Graeme Harts two builds "Ulysses" and "Andromeda")

It was previously blue and called GH Endurance, not sure if they used bad undercoating or if they should have instead sandblasted back the blue paint before going with the navy grey.

Wow, I first saw an artist's impression of such a vessel in "Insight" magazine in the early 80s, their ship was unmanned, remote controlled by satellite and navigated by GPS too 👍️

Amazing that it's taken 40+ years to come to pass, the 80s-on era of "cheap" oil (but at vast cost to the planet) killed off a lot of technologies that in the 1970s appeared to be just around the corner and were economic given high oil prices at the time.

I used to do swimming classes in a pool in Dundrum which only had a 5ft deep end, apparently it was built in the early 70s with a 6ft deep end but after the 1973 oil crisis they partially filled it in to save on heating!

I'll be sailing on the Aura Seaways this summer, which I posted pictures of up this very page almost 3 years ago!

Still can't get over that bow.. There's a real Titanic vibe to her hull

Not sure if this counts as ship porn, but I saw it and thought some of you might like it…

World's largest Viking ship is launched.

The Myklebust Ship, believed to be the largest Viking ship ever discovered, stands as a testament to the ingenuity of Norse craftsmanship. At 30 meters (98 feet) long, this extraordinary vessel was uncovered in Nordfjordeid, Norway, within a cremation burial mound dating back over 1,000 years. Likely belonging to King Audbjørn of the Fjords, it symbolizes the power and prestige of Viking royalty.

Today, the ship is reborn at the Sagastad Viking Center, where a full-scale replica invites visitors to step into the world of the Vikings. Completed in 2019 using traditional techniques, the replica is not just for show—it’s fully seaworthy and occasionally launched on the fjord. The remains of 7,000 rivets and 44 shield bosses tell a story of strength and status, connecting us to a time when these ships ruled the seas.
