The only difference the venue makes is to the travelling fans.

For the teams and the match itself, I don't think it really makes much difference if it is in Limerick, Cork, Thurles or elsewhere.

Why is there an advantage? With ~50/50 ticket allocations and a ground way closer to home I'm not seeing the issue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭opinionated3

I'm sorry but why is Limerick even in this conversation? Clare will not give home advantage to Limerick. That's madness. It's either thurles or cork. Cork is only being mentioned from a money standpoint. The vast majority of fans would prefer thurles. Cork would be simply a traffic nightmare.

Not a hope the game will be in Limerick. Surprised some think it's a viable option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,232 ✭✭✭waterwelly

    Limerick make sense, that's why.

Leinster hurling counties get home advantage for the all Ireland semis and final every year and nobody moans about it.

Are ye going to let the money men of limerick and cork bully ye into a stadium ye don't want?

    The game has already begun.

If they get their way they've already won.

    No hawkeye in there either...

    Thurles is the logical venue.

This shouldn't need to be debated, it should be agreed every year that Clare-Limerick munster finals should be in Thurles, Clare-Tipp in Limerick, Waterford-Tipp in Cork, Waterford-Cork in Thurles and home-away arrangements in the event of a clash involving two of Tipp, Cork and Limerick.

If this is played in Cork it is a disgrace. It will needlessly inconvenience tens of thousands of people, see increased emissions and unnecessary expenditure during a cost of living crisis.

I'd hope Clare would agree to Limerick rather than Cork, but with some concessions. Four training sessions between now and the game, and we get home advantage in the round robin in 2025. I don't think we need fear going there, we beat them there a few weeks ago.

Limerick weren’t the ones proposing playing it in Limerick though.

The only ones mentioning Cork with anything confidence are the Examiner (formerly the Cork Examiner, Examiner Sport YouTube channel still has a Páirc Uí Chaoimh tribute video pinned on their channel).

Straight shot between Thurles and Limerick I reckon and more than likely Thurles.

Article just published in the Examiner says it will take place in the Gaelic Grounds

Colour me shocked. I've no idea what gain lohan thinks he's getting by playing it there

Limerick get home advantage for a final... talk about getting shafted. Oh, lads...

Munster council are a disgrace. Bought off it looks like.

Clare did well for their supporters to at least pull the plug on them having to go to Cork.

But that's bullshit. Neutral venues for a final, unless there's a home and away agreement, has been the case for a long time.

Cork and Limerick have way too power and money to be fought at committee and board level now it seems.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,579 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Yeah, and where did the whole "not playing at Thurles" idea even come from I wonder ?

    Very bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 ValentiahYes

Clare requested that it be played in Limerick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭supernova5

its one thing Clare county board agreeing to concede home advantage in a Munster Senior Final but its quite another if they don't have some kind of stipulation in there like for example - Clare play Limerick in the 2025 Round Robin in Ennis and say if these 2 teams were to meet in the Munster minor or under 20 Munster final Clare get home advantage

if they have agreed straight up without any future arrangement them its just plain stupid

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭supernova5

its down for a 1.45pm throw in at Gaelic Grounds according to Munster Gaa.ie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 ValentiahYes

    Why though? You’re reminding me of a quote from the Simpsons way back when it wasn’t crap;

Hello, jerry? Homer Simpson here. Remember last month when I paid back that loan? Well, now I need you to do a favour for me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭supernova5

Now come on, for Christ sake its only common sense, would any other county agree to concede home advantage in a major final without getting something back - quid pro quo,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 ValentiahYes

Clare asked to play it in Limerick. Clare were unwilling to travel to Cork and Limerick did them a favour by agreeing to Clare’s counter proposal. It’s not in any way comparable to a normal home away agreement. You want to have the cake and eat it too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

Very surprised Clare agreed to this. Big advantage to Limerick. Great for the fans but home advantage makes this an even bigger uphill struggle for the banner imo.

Even more surprising. Good luck with that. No chance i'd have done the same. But hey it's done now. Going to be a great occassion for sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,579 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

I wonder were Lohan and the players consulted on this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19 ValentiahYes

It’s not the most intimidating “away” venue in any case, Clare recently turned them over and Cork won there handsomely enough in 2019. Crowd will be close to 50:50 so it won’t be a normal away game in that sense. Limerick seem to have more difficulty coping with Cusack Park than Clare typically would have with the Gaelic Grounds.

I think it should have been Thurles but it won’t have a significant impact either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

Cork wanted Cork. Kerry were bought off by Cork. Limerick wanted Cork and didn't want Thurles.

Clare had no choice but to go to Limerick in order to avoid going to Cork for their supporters.

They've been f**ked over. F**ked over with the fixture list too and amount of games in a short space of time.

Lost neutral venue and had to concede to play at the home of the opposition for a final. Munster council should be ashamed. Absolutely disgusting.

Going forward Tipp, Clare (have to swallow yer pride here boys and talk to us), and Waterford will have to do a better job of getting their **** together, as a team, before going to the table with these boys (Cork, Limerick, and Kerry).

We love a civil war down in Tipp, so any time ye're ready, give us a shout.

they were. But they were out voted. Lohan said get limerick then - anywhere but Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,037 ✭✭✭YabaDabaDooley

You wont know if it will have a signicant impact until the day of the match. You could be right but i think the opposite. A nice advantage to the all conquering treaty men. Wrap up the historic Munster 5 in a row in front of their own people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,014 ✭✭✭Glenomra

Unfortunately Tipperary never did Clare any favours. Never. Think of our great team of the 1990s. remember the Tipperary Bord na Scoile official who gave evidence, that nobody else in the stadium witnessed, and caused the suspension of Colin Lynch. Single handedly Tipperary lead the Munster Council to shaft Clare because ye couldn't cope with our success. So enough of your tears for the Banner!!!!

Oh sweet jesus, with that mentality no wonder ye're getting shafted. Let it go, kid.

    The real questions here is:

    1. Why did Limerick change their minds from Thurles?
    2. What did Cork offer Limerick here pre-negotiations and what will it mean for the fixtures arrangements next year?

Two home games to get the Limerick and Cork band wagons rolling next year, is it?

And of course Limerick agreed to the Sham Grounds when Clare wouldn't budge on Cork. Oh, to have a camera in or the minutes of the Munster offices in Castletroy. Not that there are minutes...
