I expect this car to be successful but nothing like what the previous generation of 5’s were. It will be simply too expensive. The regular 5 series next generation will be the seller here.

the phev version is the one that will do most business if it’s appreciably cheaper than the i5

It still amazes me to see how cheap used ICEs are on auto trader NI or UK compared to this country. It a wonder how anyone buys used EVs there given the current price differential

No fear of the base i5 coming close to a Porsche Taycan in price especially as Porsche have announced there will be significant price rises coming.

I keep seeing an M60 mentioned with the i5. Whether thats wishful thinking, we shall see.

One of the few affordable family supercars of all time. The engine is just magnificent. But even if the maintenance, tax and running costs were not an issue, could you live long time with that dreadful gearbox? And having owned similarly fast EVs, could you live again with the low torque at idle (even from a 5l V10 racing engine)?

I don't think I could. And please don't tell that judge Zaidan how fast I drove in one on Irish roads 😂

Same here. I have spent so much doing up our house lately, I wanted a year to recover finances - but if the M60 is reasonable money - I actually think it could be an amazing car - I might be drawn to order. My current 530e X Drive is Jan 2021 new, only 32k km up to date - so loan is up in Jan 24 - could be good timing.

But, I usually would avoid buying a car in first years run - I see the Volvo EX90 is going to be delayed 6-9 months with software issues for example - as I prefer to not be a beta tester.

I was looking at X5 50e, the iX40 and the i5 - I think of the three, the i5 might do myself and the Mrs nicely. Don't need the SUV space, and I have a commercial Kuga for work. I know they say saloons are dead, but I still think they are a nice sporty drive, and probably more efficient in electric versions.

I think you might be disappointed on the "reasonable money" front.

BMW have completely lost the run of themselves. The i4 M50 is in porsche taycan territory with any kind of spec added to it. The i5 M60 will be more expensive again.
