I’m sure that will come out if Kildare didn’t want to play there, Ryan doesn’t seem too concerned with whinging about all the advantages he feels Dublin get so I’d expect him to complain again, particularly if Dublin beat them away.

    It is Kildare's choice.

"KILDARE have nominated Nowlan Park as their home venue for their All-Ireland SFC round robin with Dublin on June 3rd.

With St Conleth’s Park closed for redevelopment, Kildare were entitled to name another ground as their designated ‘home’ ground for their clash with the Dubs."

I heard Kildare nominated O'Moore park as their home venue but HQ have since gone with Nowlan park because Laois have tailteann cup game in O'Moore park the same weekend that Kildare play Dublin.

If they had their own ground open, they would be insisting on bringing Dublin to a 8,200 capacity venue. Same as they did with Mayo. The new ground will be 15,000, still a bit small for possible Dublin games in future.

Dublin won against Laois in Nowlan Park in the championship 7 years ago... lovely summers day loadsa burgers and icecream sold.

I suppose some could say that Nowlan Park is a 'home away from home' for Dublin?

If Kildare are looking for excuses I think that might be a good one....

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Mayo 5 up at HT. Should be more.

Mayo forwards running amok on the Kerry defence. Casey getting roasted. Will be changes at HT id say.

Kerry very sloppy in possession, lots of really poor turn overs, lucky not to concede a few goals.

Great chance for a big win here for Mayo. Far the better team so far

It's like Peter Keane back managing Kerry again, defence all over the shop really should be contest over at half time and can be thankful to Shane Ryan that it's not. Mayo well up for the game, on top in every area of the field 1st half.

Mayo have squandered some amount of goal chances

Kerry could have had 3 goals in the last 10 minutes too!

Nice goal. And thats that. Graham O Sullivan has had a poor game. Not sure that move to wing back has worked.

No All Ireland in this Kerry team this year anyway. Have gone backwards from last year whereas the other contenders have pushed on.

Kerry 0-17 Mayo 1-19 very good win for Mayo and good value for that margin of victory. Back to drawing board for Kerry especially defensively

Good win for Mayo. Kerry looked a bit off the pace all round today, bar David.

Lots to improve on. No major harm done.

Is Galway v Tyrone on any radio station? Can’t find it anywhere. Rte doing rugby 🙄

Crazy red card from Burns for Tyrone, cheap frontal hit left referee little option. Didn't take the same option when Burke clotheslines a Tyrone attacker a few minutes later, yellow and a black for Morgan for dissent. Peter Harte in goals for 10 minutes. 6 to 3 to Galway, poor conditions.

Big win for Mayo going down and beating the All Ireland champions in a ground they haven't been beaten in championship football in nearly 30 years. Sounded a good game lots of spurned goal chances. Listened to it on radio. Just in case any posters dont know the Saturday Game is on tonight at 21.30.

Tyrone lost all discipline in that half. Galway 0-7 to 0-4 in front at half time.

Mayo fully deserving winners today. A tough Round 1 opponent for any provincial winner it has to be said. Provincial winner v League winner hints at a flawed seeding. Louth, Clare and Sligo Seeded 2. Seeds 2, 3 and 4 should be on league ranking. A flaw to be fixed after review I suppose.

Congratulations to Mayo anyways. Fully deserving winners and a wake-up call for Kerry if they do have the hunger to recover.

This is a truly terrible game so far.

Galway 0-16 Tyrone 0-13, the same result as it was in Feb in the league this year. Have watched 5 or 6 Galway games this year each one of them a pure attrition here a style of play that has won them Connacht and finish 2nd in NFL and should reach the AI Quarter final but I'm not sure how this style will go in business end of the championship in Croke Park.

What.... Didn't you get weet the memo?? Galway, lovely silky forwards, play the game the right way, all that?

They are a very cynical and physical side. Tyrone no angels obviously, but even on TV it was clear to see lots of late jiya9and off the ball stuff on both sides, pretty much 50/50 to my view, but Tyrone kept coming up the wrong side of the referee. For instance, there was a reckless charge by Walsh early in the 2nd half, caught the Tyrone player on the chin with his shoulder. Wasn't a red card, but referee didn't give a yellow either, and pretty much told Tyrone to get up and take the free quickly or he'd hop the ball.

    Perception.

With Mayo and Galway winning this weekend the RTE pundit narrative will again swing towards Mayo and Galway being the top contenders.

But it will only last a week before Dublin beat Roscommon and Dublin will then be flavour of the month.

But by the time that is commonly accepted it will be back to being Kerry after they beat Cork.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,050 ✭✭✭Seadin

Cork will be hard to beat in the pairc. Yes we all expect Kerry to win but it won't be an easy game for them. Its bonus territory for Cork and have nothing to lose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,154 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I doubt it. Beating Cork and Roscommon won't get the pundits too excited.

Mayo and Galway just beat the last 2 All Ireland champions. 1 of them at home.

War of attrition like the two most entertaining games of the last 3 years, Armagh quarter final and last year's final v Kerry. Galway play to their opposition. If you want to play football then Galway play football, as evidenced by the above games and the league game versus Kerry. If you want to make it dire, Galway will mirror. See the Derry semi final last year
