corroded oil tank bottom valve - replaceable?

We have an old oil tank, the bottom valve is highly corroded (coastal area).

I could replace it with something resembling this -

But how is the 'nut' side of the fitting attached? do I need some long tool to reach down into the tank to hold the nut inside, is this practicable?

TBH I'm not even sure I can remove that rusted lump.

Any thoughts?

yes it is now, just ran out. Has had kerosene in it for some years, unsure how long.

You have the idea, you will need something to fish the locking nut on from the inside. Tricky but patience will do it.

Note, the part you have linked is not all of what you require. You need the outlet piece which comes on the tank when purchased. What brand of tank is it? You might be best contact them directly.

I take it that's a plastic tank, if it was me I'd be looking for the stamp of year of manufacture and if it's near 10 years I'd look at replacing the whole thing as a preventative measure. There should be clock like stamps on the tank side of the valve indicating year of build.

get a new tank that is on its last legs

too much risk pissing around with that thing

saving hundreds could cost you thousands

Right I'm getting a new tank, €400 delivered. just have to make sure the stand is the right size etc.

just make sure the whole tank base is supported with no gaps

Above is some guidance about tank installation. Also refer to manufacturers instructions.

One of the most common faults (and there are lots of others) that I come across is the the lack of complete base support. Note that it recommends that the tank support extends 300mm beyond the base of the tank and that it must be level.

The tank fitting doesn't have a nut on the inside, its just screwed into the tank so needs plenty of sealing, I used some PTFE tape and something I got in the plumbing suppliers, will try and find its name later.
