Back in the day there was a pub in a local town called The Office, that was an honest excuse at least...😁

They'd have the app so they can drive it every now and again, is it still possible to restrict location access after that?

She never rings me anymore to see where I am 😁

Not within the app. There are workarounds, but they are cluncky and wont meet your requirements exactly.

If you dont want them tracking your journey, give them an RFID card to drive and revoke the mobile digital key.

If this drone shot of the alleged M3 refresh is reliable to go by, it appears the refresh will be stalkless, capacitive buttons with screen swipe forward and reverse like the new Model S/X.

Terrible news if true. I think it will push those waiting for the refresh to place their orders soon for the current M3.

Makes sense in many ways. The 3 is over 7 years old now, so its hard to have a meaningful mid life refresh without carrying over something from the bigger sister car.

otherwise it’s just a front and rear bumper update, something most other cars get after 3-4 years on sale

One of the big things I liked about the refresh MS was the stalkless and touch buttons on the wheel. I hated the yoke so delighted that’s gone.

Done forget, there’s physical buttons for the gears below the screen.

Announced maybe 7 years ago was it?

Hit the US in 2018 so that puts it at 5 years. Hit Ireland in late 2019 so refresh in late 2023 is about right in matching BMW’s LCI process.

We seen the bmw i5 near 2 years ago but it won’t be launched until this year, will that car be 2 years ok the moment it’s launched?

pretty sure my original deposit was March or April 2016, I’d have to check.

We’re used to cars being announced and delivered 6 months later, even in Ireland (ID3, ID4 etc).

Little did I know it would be 3.5yrs in Oct ‘19 before Ireland saw one. I got a 4series and forgot about it for a few years :)

    edit: March 31st 2016:

my point is simply that cars age as the design becomes widely seen.

look at the cybertruck, we’re bombarded with the design and shape since it was announced 3.5years ago, and we’re a while away from seeing them on the street.

as a result, the design has completely lost its impact - and it’s a design that could age really really badly too.

fast fwd through a few years of cybertruck sales and suddenly it looks old very quickly, with a big unknown around the ability to repair the slab sided steel panels

meanwhile things like the ford f150 lightning are announced and released and on the streets very quickly and take a lot of the sales in that EV pickup niche

Yes understand that about deposits but you could do that the night of the launch.

Cars are always announced way before release. Look at the i4 for example. Announced at the Paris motor show in 2018. Launch in Ireland in November 2021.

I personally don’t think we will see a cyber truck in Ireland.

Tesla want to engineer physical failures out so going for screen controls to the last, shame, I like the stalk

Physical controls for the drive modes under the screen beside the hazards button if they copy the MS.

Indicators have no back up I don’t think but they are buttons in the wheel of a stalk breaks in a car there’s no back up either.

Also, I drove a 530e so I never spec’d the indicators. Who needs them 🤣🤣

Agreed - No chance of a cybertruck in Ireland. Will it even meet the weight limits for our driving licence? saw the one they had at the lithium factory announcement this week and it looks massive

What are capacitive buttons? Are they the ones everyone complains about on the VW electric cars? That sounds like a step backwards if they're like that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,636 ✭✭✭Redfox25

Didn't use them in 4 yrs of 320d ownership either. Lol

Evening all. Just looking for someones opinion on my recent driving range/usage. Drove from Castlebar to Navan today, total distance 217kms, % battery usage 51% (49% remaining), 28Kwh used, 131Wh/km used. Now temperatures up to high teens today, max speed along the route was 100kms, but driving wise was typically 80-100kms with slow downs when passing through towns etc. AC was on all of the drive 21 Deg C, 5 passengers, full boot.

What I am looing at, and forgive my simple maths, 28Kwh used = 49%, does that mean 56kwh useable for 98% of battery? But was there not a post/thread back at the start of the year saying usable battery capacity only 52.5kwH??

Or am I taking the figures given on the screen of the car completely wrong?

I did a trip yesterday myself range of speeds from 50km/h through a town up to 120km/h on the motorway. I did the speed limit or close to where traffic permitted. Managed 224km on 53% battery in a 2023 Model 3 RWD. Consumption for the trip was 129Wh/km. That comes to 422km for the full 100% which is not too far off the EPA rated range shown in the car.

    Hi all

recently have been getting ‘charging interrupted’ messages when AC charging at home. Last night had 6 interruptions every 1-2 hrs. Haven’t been any changes to household and was working fine first 10 months or so. Any ideas? Do I need to get onto Tesla or the charger installers? Cheers for any tips.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,530 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    3 tests.

    1. try another EV on the charger and see if the same results occur.
    2. try your car on another AC charger and see if you get the same errors. An ecars SCP May work here to test.
    3. Lower the charging amps to rule out an overcurrent issue

The only reason I'd buy a LR is for the AWD, extra power and upgraded Audio. I think there's too much of a price difference between the M3 RWD and LR AWD at the moment. The LRAWD should be 3k cheaper, it would push more people to buy it. Wishful thinking I know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,580 ✭✭✭eagerv

Yes, the Performance seems great value at only €4K more; though the LR is still great value for the range, power and equipment at roughly the same price I paid for a RWD fourteen months ago...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,141 ✭✭✭sk8board

split the diff and let’s say it’s €46k for the LR, if range is the no.1 priority it would probably be the best value of any EV in terms of €/km, (€46k/475= €95/km).

I’m not aware of any new EV that’s under €100 per km of range (list price/real world range).

edit: some folks on the internet machine say this version will have more range than the AWD.

It seems that since I updated to 2023.12.5 the voice search has gotten quite bad. I noticed previously that it was especially good with tricky names for artists e.g. one with a polish name. However, now it's just throwing up nonsense. It seems to be OK with the voice commands.

Hi all, does anybody have any experience trading in a car to buy a Tesla? The only videos I found were from the U.S. I have a 2015 BMW and wonder what kind of price they would quote.

I filled out the trade in form but just got 2 texts one to say I requested a test drive and one that asks me to fill out the trade in form...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,256 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

    Forget about it..

Tesla will farm out your trade in to the industry, and will offer you the highest offer they in turn receive, so expect to be offered anywhere from 30% - 50% below market value for your car. Tesla only facilitate you selling your car to a 3rd party essentially.

So on a €2,000 car this might be fine, but on a €20k car maybe not ok...

Your best bet would be to try and sell privately, or if you are happy to take the hit, trade with Tesla for the convenience of turning up in your old car, hopping out and jumping into your new Tesla and driving home..

When ordering don't forget to use a referral code...

Are the circuit beakers on your distribution board tripping, or is it just cutting out on the Tesla side?.

I had been having the exact same issues - but my issues related to my circuit breakers. I was able to manage for a while by lowering the current down to <26A (as @Gumbo suggested above). I ended up replacing both the RCBO and MCB each and that solved my problem.

Next time you get a fault, log a service request in the App. Providing the warning is still active (check your notifications under Alerts on the dash), you can actually choose that warning as the issue. This way the Service Dept can get the date & time stamp of when the issue actually occured to faciliate remote diagnosis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭speedfreak

Cheers both. No nothing tripping. I also don’t do anything and it resumes charging immediately. Thanks for tip on reporting. What are RCBO MCB?

What is your voltage showing when charging stopping? Mine occasionally stops around 12 to 1230 am but usually restarts again. I get a notification on app saying charging has stopped. Tesla seem to not like voltage fluctuations, must be a nearby factory or something in my area. I notified ESB who did a check and naturally said voltage was between normal limits.
