Is council housing difficult to get on Ireland's offshore islands?

I noticed there is council housing available on some of Ireland's offshore islands. Do you know if these are difficult to get and if not, how long would it take to get one?

It's more difficult than the mainland and locals in need of social housing would trump blow-ins, especially in Gaeltacht areas

Honestly depends on the island. Demand for some is non existent, so easily got. The housing varies from decent reasonably modern homes to demountable/mobile homes with little or no services. Worth a look at though, as people have got them over the years without connections to an area and without being on the housing lists.

That doesn't seem reflected by the couple of people I'm aware of who got such houses. But it certainly depends on the island.

Galway- Not much hope.

Mayo- could have options but I don't think the housing stock is either numerous or a decent standard.

One way to find out is drop a line to the councils involved.
