Jesus you are an angry little man. Nothing patronising about statements of fact.

Ever hear of the Scottish rugby player Ben Healy?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,779 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

MOD VOICE: This stops now. Ben Healy is Irish, that is his declared nationality. It is not a matter for discussion as it is a statement of fact. He races with a tricolour beside his name, this discussion on this thread is over. Anyone who continues it will be taking a holiday from this thread for the rest of the Giro. Any clarifications or questions can be done via PM.

    Untitled Image

35km flat TT, should be right up Remco’s alley but be interesting to see how his legs are after yesterday.

Shame Ganna had to drop as he would’ve been favourite

Nasty weather out there. I wonder will it clear up or get worse by the time the main GC guys head out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,828 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Remco 31 seconds ahead of Roglic after 13km, game over for the GC if it keeps climbing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,828 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Oh Remco blown his load early it seems

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,261 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Eddie currently in the top 20 1:29 down on G which is another solid outing.

That’s a fantastic ride by the two Ineos lads in fairness, especially after them both being able to follow Rog yesterday

1:29 is not much of a loss for someone going for top 10.

Very solid TTs all round from the GC riders.

Anyone know why Remco gets to go last. I thought that would be the race leader ?

race leader did go last. Was out so just checking times and stunned that everyone came back to Remco. Seen claims last night he’d put “minutes” into some GC contenders so Roglic only losing 18s is great for the rest of the Giro

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,828 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

He didn’t, Leknessund was behind him but just go absolutely zero coverage until he crossed the line, was a minute down in the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,687 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

That was terrible coverage. No mention of him or a single shot while I was watching and Eurosport certainly made it sound like the race was over.

    Remco out with covid

    IMG_1682.jpeg

According to Geraint Thomas podcast, Roglic told them he had covid as well, whether that was a joke misinterpreted or some sort of mind games, but Jumbo denied any rumours of a positive test for him

Wonder if it explains the extremes of body temperature Remco was experiencing during the week?

Jumbo DS before the tour defended their testing of their team saying they’re only tested if the show symptoms. A fair few said Remco looked ill earlier today

Geraint Thomas said all of Ineos passed a test after Ganna pulled out

There’s no tests from RCS/UCI etc, it’s just down to teams. Awful news though

I had Ganna as well as Remco. Bloody COVID.

Anyway I'm more disappointed about race as I was really looking forward to the prospect of Roglic and Remco fighting it out.

Maybe Ineos will still make it a good race.

Hah, yeah true, but more so of the Sky era, not so much with Ineos

What's the story with COVID testing in races these days ?

I gather there is no mass external rest day testing any more ?

Are teams under any obligation to test ?

Are they entitled to just not test and make calls based on how riders feel on the morning ? Just like pre 2020.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,828 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

Completely up to the teams to test, in some cases they’re only testing if riders are showing symptoms regardless of whether there’s been other positives in the team.

Nothing stopping a team from not testing at all even if a rider doesn’t feel well, in theory they could just withdraw them like a regular illness and the rest continue.

Only difference with covid is riding with it can supposedly do more damage because of the lungs etc and lead to longer recovery

Thanks for that. You wonder in the case of Remco was he actually on his way out of it.

As others mentioned the signs of it (more layers than other riders) were around for days and with tomorrow being a rest day would they not have waited and seen.

Suppose it's harder to isolate the race leader but you wonder what the sponsors will make of it. From this perspective I wouldn't be surprised if the thinking is that he.will now do the TDF. This makes it easier to pull him and would probably go down well with sponsors too.

Knowing what we know about the Soudal team, there is no way they’d have taken him out unless it’s effecting him significantly. It isn’t like previous years when testing was mandatory

I hope he does go to the Tour now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,828 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

He looked absolutely in bits after the TT, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he said f this I can’t continue like this, especially considering he dropped about 30 seconds in the second half of the TT.

I think whether he does the tour or not probably depends on what they do with the likes of Van Wilder, Ballerini and Vervaeke now, asking them to finish out the Giro hunting for stages will mean they’ll be fairly bolloxed when the tour rolls around, and QS don’t have the depth to give him any other real domestiques in the mountains.

And they haven’t shown the ability to compete on two fronts either, sprints and GC

Remco v Pogacar v Vingegaard v Bernal in the tour would be epic. Best GC lineup ever I’d say
