Malta and Latvia both had a bad position in the running order, that probably explains it.

Could be, perhaps there was a bit of nodding and winking going on there with the juries, maybe an agenda to get it to Stockholm for the 50th anniversary. Not saying there was because I don't know, but it looks a bit suspicious when you compare the Jury vote to the public vote.

Finland got around 45% more than Sweden in the public vote.

I think its time for Ireland to pull out now. There is no way smaller countries not surrounded by other countries will do well with televoting having such a big swing.

Any shenanigans are not going to favour Ireland anyway.

Notice that Irish success was diminished greatly when the televoting came in and never recovered.

Let the Scandinavians, Balkans and Eastern Europeans have it. They have the system primed for themselves anyway.

Is this the time to reawaken Johnny Logan and start the Irish sesh campaign for 2026 for the 30 year anniversary of when we were last relevant in Eurovision?

Can't even remember the Sweden song.

They won because it's Sweden (because Abba and that's supposed to mean something) and the Baltic mafia throwing points at each other as usual.

Ireland diminished greatly when the televote came in because almost every Irish song since then has not been up to par. Note also that Ireland also hasn't done well in the juries most years, except when they came 6th with Jedward in 2011. It's simple - send a good song that appeals to Europe and Ireland will do well.

Sweden won because the jury gave her the biggest score ever. She would win the jury even without the Baltics and the Nordics voting for her.

Indeed, she got 15 sets of 12 points from the juries, so a bit strange to blame this on the "baltic mafia".

Well we should have let that through so, I refused to watch late late crap so had no idea what songs tried to represent Ireland.

Am I the only one who cannot stand Finland?

I wonder if it is a coincidence that we have not won the ESC since peace came to Northern Ireland.

I honestly think Johnny Logan world be taking a risk y competing once again for us.

Maybe the less Rosie riskier option would be him performing for the county of his birth - Australia

if he wins we can claim it as an Irish win

Juries seem to be bad news all round. Should be a popular vote from start to finish,no complaints, everyone wins.

I think I wouldn’t watch Eurovision again if they scrapped the jury vote, full of novelty acts and pure muck. Look at semi final 1 - Netherlands finished so low on public vote with a very good song and performance.

For this year I agree with you - the jury this year stopped the popular choice with the public getting the win. It was a fun song - no agenda, no politics, was a total earworm that the whole stadium were singing it, however, it was because of the jury last year that Sam Ryder was kept in close contention and still had a chance of winning it (as far as the viewer was concerned). Let’s face it - Sam Ryder was the real winner last year and any other year he would’ve won both the jury and the public vote, but it was the sympathy/solidarity vote that won it for Ukraine, so I’m not sure I’d be in too much of a hurry to get rid of it either.

The real issue I have is the fawning and fanboying that’s been happening every year with Sweden. So many years I hear how the Swedish entry is amazing and they’re the favourites, and then I hear the song and think “really?!” Last year included. I’m hoping the tide might be turning now - at least with the public - there seemed to be no love for Sweden taking the win and hopefully people will see it that Finland were robbed.

I think people were fatigued of Sweden being the heavy favourites and were looking for an upset. I've never seen (bar Ukraine) such heavy favourites. They were 2/5 this week. It probably went against them this week for the voting.

uk last year defied all the voting bias, watching him last night at the break I’d say he would have won this year if they entered him , he’s Just that good

If that couldn’t entice Paul it’s not looking good for Ryan tubridy and his last show 😂😂I think Paul notoriously hates fan boys

Nah fúck Russia! The one of the reasons that Eurovision came about was to bring unity to Europe after WWII. Russia have absolutely no place in Eurovision while they’re bombing their neighbour and causing so much destruction across Europe due to all the refugees who have had to be accommodated

What about Israel then? Who aren't even in Europe.

Louis stopped being relevant 10 years ago. I’m old enough to remember Bucks Fizz winning. I wouldn’t venture an answer if I was asked what we should be doing. Even I know I’m out of touch now. The people we should be asking are those in the 15-30 age group. They’re the ones who largely perform and also vote I’d say. I know that resulted in Wild Youth this year but nothing is perfect!

Louis Walsh should be nowhere near Eurovision selection. His acts never did well outside of English speaking markets and were mostly cover versions.

Linda Martin is also completely out of. She just sang the song. It was the song that won.

The Late Late Show is not an appropriate place to select the song. It has failed year after year. It caters for a certain market. Older audience, rural, likes being told what to think, probably likes GAA and country music.

There's nothing wrong with going for the older vote, everyone's votes count the same but if they are going for younger songs, they have to be made by younger people. Not 40 year olds in Hoodies, saying they are down with the kids.

I look at the top 10 and think the majority of those songs probably wouldn't have even made it out of selection. Nobody in Ireland would above came up with Finland's song. Loreen would have looked dreadful on the Late Late Show stage.

    The system is inadequate.

Marty Whelan wasn't helping either. He was locked on Bailey's last night. His Twitter stream was full of him and Bailey's during it. He was constantly trying to allude to block voting. Probably to cover RTEs arse. RTE are constantly trying to allude to block voting, just to cover themselves.

Department of Culture needs to get involved, although I'd fear they'd get bogged down with box ticking and lobbyists. You win the competition to show off your country. It's about tourism, trade, your nation's public image. It is of national importance.

If you are a young European and look at Ireland constantly failing, you'd believe we are cultureless like the UK. There's probably an air of truth to it.
