Boards.ie is an old website with regular active users since nearly it's inception which got me thinking on why people first signed up in the first place. Was there any reason why you signed up? What did you find interesting about it? What kept you active for so long?

I woke up here with no recollection of how I got here. I thought it was the same for everyone kinda like The Prisoner.

I was abroad working, bored, not busy and I’d read about it on some site and hey.

I was active over a decade ago mainly to argue with southern people who were making smug anti Northern Catholic posts. However I don't engage with that sort of argument any more as there is no reasoning with people like that.

I use forums as it is my only form of social interaction due to being an incel but I don't enjoy interacting with people as I have developed into a misanthrope over the years. The human brain craves social interaction regardless if you enjoy it or not though.

I don't think their was another general Irish forum around until recently with the same level of local and deep knowledge as here. Also, it's not as gullible and woke as other sites.

To browse initially and felt compelled to reply so signed up.. 17 years ago. Boards isn't as good as it use to be but habits are hard to break. Boards is still good once theirs an interesting topic as it's easy to follow thread discussions. I disappear every now and then for a while but I'll always be back.

Was a member for a while years ago but didn’t use it much. Recently diagnosed with a serious illness which has meant I’m spending time at home resting, and signed up again.

if I stop posting it means I either recovered or died.

    I can't remember.

It's great to be able to back to old posts though and reminisce, in a way a site of this age has now got historical importance.

Came across it first when Texas Hold'em was big, I knew some of the posters and players, didn't join 'til years later, can't remember why.

I think I first stumbled across the site when Google pulled up something on After Hours, but Accommodation & Property was main motive to actually sign up.

First arrived with Ireland Offline when we were trying to get flat rate dialup internet as an option rather than paying for our internet connections by the minute!

I was a P45 regular (under the name Preacher) as well! I still miss it terribly. Came here to get my fix of online debate after P45 shut down but it's always been a poor substitute.

I joined on the suggestion of a nerdy school friend. I was looking for help with an issue I was having with Windows at the time (I think). Stayed for the motors and music forum mainly I'd say. As life progresses I find other sections that interest me. Aviation, Weather, After Hours etc. We like complaining but it's a great wee site all the same.
