I don't think HAP is available for lodgers however, yes, there are discretionary extras available for rent allowance.

The scheme could be seen as a "democritization" of landlordism. Where previously being a landlord was limited to property owners with excess accommodation, now the dweller of humble council housing can participate in easing the housing crisis through letting out a room.

It is somewhat unfair however and I think as property owners will generally have invested more money in their properties than council tenants will have paid rent. Therefore perhaps some lesser tax benefit might have been in order rather than being completely tax free.

House sharing with strangers is of course perfectly fine for the workers. Couldn't possibly do that for all council tenants. Wouldn't be "suitable".

This latest farce in The Welfare State of Ireland is the product of a democracy that gives the exact same vote to workers taxed to pay for everything to those that take everything. Bottom line, if weighted voting doesnt happen (it most defintely will note btw), then this will continue.

If you want to get banned from Boards, merely point out how the welfare state recipients & the public sector (both vast majority female) are both doing fantastically well from the taxes and labour from the private sector (which is vast majority male).
