What format to use to email a CV, PDF or Word Doc. ?

Currently updating my CV.

Just wondering for the purposes of e mailing a CV, sometimes the original format of the document does not appear properly when the document is emailed, particularly when using Google Docs to save the document. For examples, word tables are distorted,etc.

Do most people email CVs in PDF format?

Always use a PDf, that retains the original spacing etc.

I've never seen it specified what format it has to be in, but all PC's are capable of opening PDFs. Whereas not all may have Office etc.

As we all know a CV needs regular updating with new positions etc, do you have any advice on saving the document? Do you have one copy in Word for editing purposes, when required, and one in PDF to submit for applications sent via email?

If its going to a recruiter you must use PDF to stop them fiddling with it from my experience. Layout is less of an issue, recruiter determined to get their commission making you a liar is all too common.

Tbh more the content than the format.

Make it an easy read.

Bullet points and tailor to the specific job requirements, use the buzz words in the job spec match your C.V to what the job requirements are.

Obviously no spelling or grammatical errors and get someone to proof read it , all basic stuff but you would be surprised.....

Aye that's one reason, although these days its much easier to edit a pdf,,, you can import a pdf to word and export it back to pdf now with no signs most of the time.

But yeah it preserves the original formatting, fonts etc, I'd say that's the key reason these days.

Yeah, keep one as a word doc to edit, and then just export as PDF as and when needed.
