Looking like all the A330 fleet is back in action now. EDY is back for UK ops, DUZ has returned from Manchester. DAA is scheduled to YYZ today and Wamos A330 is about to head back to Madrid.

Just GEY that's left to return now from storage.

And just like that EI-DAA returned to stand today on it's Toronto turn... couldn't write it😂😂😂

Manchester - JFK flight was due to depart at 13:15 and still hasn't left yet 😬

DAA up and away - EIDY gone tech again seemingly - flight cancelled - eventually - back on the board for today's man-jfk.

Now EI-EIL is stuck in Chicago, gone tech, inbound flight to DUB cancelled.

Outbound today cancelled also... As it's the early flight hopefully they can bump passengers onto the later flight or via their other US routes. It's been some week.

Looks like it fixed and heading back as todays inbound.

One would have thought that there'd be a point where the number of cancellations has enough impact on the brand that it's worth having a spare frame available.

Those Wamos charters won't be cheap, too.

I develop Superior Solitaire when I'm not procrastinating on boards.ie.

A single spare airframe wouldnt have been enough over the last 10 days.

However if GEY returns to service then they will have enough to maintain an active spare ( maybe keeping EIK/EIL in that role)

Ei-EIL is back in service, flew back in service from ORD last night

A bit of talk or over on one of the other groups about a "rumor" of EI looking at 20-25 A330s neos and A350s over the next few years.

Seems very far fetched but a few do believe there could be a case for it providing EI expand their short haul fleet. If EI were looking to expand their Manchester routes I'd say 20/25 widebodys wouldn't be too far off the mark.

If they plan a proper route network out of MAN, especially with onward/interline connections on some other airline, then 20 (for IRL/UK) wouldn't be totally unrealistic... There is a large population around there, and India/Pakistan/East would work - a lot of attempts by HAN/POP etc. but they're start-ups.

When MAN gets it's US preclearance facility EI could do well if they have some fleet flexibility to cover tech issues when they occur, and have an established base up and running.

That said, it would be great for the rumours to materialize into actual widebody orders of any magnitude... Some of the fleet is very old and the rest is getting there, as are the cabins. Add a few years for any orders to arrive... And the phase out/in would work.

The 330neo is pretty optimal for where EI currently fly so having a mixed fleet might not be ideal,

but let's cross our fingers for the elusive WB order - whatever it is.

EI 168 DUBLHR diverted to Gatwick today - any idea why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,650 ✭✭✭EchoIndia

FR24 shows a couple of turns in the hold and then a missed approach to 09L, after which the aircraft set course for LGW.

G Eirh on its way to Dublin maybe getting transferred back ei lrh?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,410 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

Yes that’s the plan. Needed with CLE starting in a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭sherology

So, when G-EIDY was tech a week ago or so, they didn't use the LR that was in MAN to prevent cancellations and rebook others? Couldn't it have done the JFK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭Shamrockj

I would imagine there is background issues to make that happen. Perhaps all the flight deck were trained on A330 in advance of the removal of the NEO from Manchester base. I’m sure if they could have operated it they would.

DFW is a great hub and a very welcome development for my travels (subject to pricing, which was pretty high on the summer-only service). As EI are now part of the BA/AA transatlantic joint business thing, does it really matter to the airlines which of them within the grouping flies the route? Would be interested to know...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,410 ✭✭✭kevinandrew

It was having maintenance in the STS hanger at Manchester during G-EIDY’s tech episode I believe.

Yeah, apart from brining 3 (possibly 4) long haul aircraft back online for summer from Dublin and launching a brand new route.

Aer Lingus and American Airlines will soon be ‘metal neutral’ across the Atlantic, DFW going year round is great news for the joint venture and a decision likely heavily influenced by its existence.

    Just curious..

Why is DUO almost exclusively operating on the Seattle route and DAA seems permanently allocated the Toronto route.

DAA has a cabin crew rest area, surely it is fit to fly on the Seattle route too.?

I believe the rest facility has been removed from DAA

Not really. It may have been removed before it went into storage. Perhaps it went into a newer airframe, or is being used as a hot spare for the California route.

Alos, from a reservations/customer service point of view, its better to have the 2 different aircraft ( from the rest of the fleet) dedicated to 2 specific routes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,510 ✭✭✭Jack1985

The A330-300LR's (-GAJ/GCF/EIM/EIN) have fixed-FCRC's and permanently loaded LDMCR's. DUO now similarly has the same, previously EI used to interchange LDMCR's amongst the -200 series aircraft which sometimes resulted in damage and unavailability of an LDMCR for a West Coast service which has higher staffing costs as a result.

DAA may well have an LDMCR re-loaded, however as it does not have an FCRC usually a Business Class seat is blocked off for flight crew rest, makes a lot more sense to have all 23J seats available for purchase with DUO flying the SEA route.

If you don't need the LDMCR, why carry the weight around?

So for 3 West Coast destinations (SEA/SFO/LAX) there are 5 available aircraft GAJ/GCF/EIM/EIN + DUO

Due to unprecedented leisure demand, EI will deploy two A330 to AGP next Mon & Tues.

Should be an interesting chance to photograph two A330’s on the ground in Malaga.

Both EI580/1 and EI582/3 are down for A330 operation tomorrow, Monday 1 May as well as on Monday 8 May and Tuesday 9 May, looking at the booking engine.

EI778/779 also down as being operated by a hired-in A330. Wonder if we will see a repeat of last summer when it was operated by the Privilege 772
