Is a dealer's paintwork/fabric protection worth paying extra for on a new car?

Hey all, looking for some advice please 😊

When buying a new car is it worth paying extra for the fabric and body 'protection' that dealers offer? I'm ordering a Toyota RAV (Silver Metallic paint and synthetic leather) and am wondering if I should pay the extra for this. Part of me thinks it's just a marketing ploy to inflate the sale price and bump up the dealer's commission.

The cars interior and paintwork should last more than 10 years without having to pay for any additional coatings

Also that 'invisible shield' sounds like PFAS chemicals are involved and those are terrible for your health

These products are just another way for dealers to get more money from you. The mark-up they get on selling these products is pretty high. They are the equivalent of Ryan Air selling you overpriced coffee/sandwiches, scratch cards, etc inflight.

Better off bringing your car to a proper detailer who will actually do a good job too.

They are big profit items for the dealer, lifeshine is another one which has done the rounds. The products themselves could be bought for about €30 so you can see the reason they are pushed.

Dealerships don't want to spend the time and money on the valeting side of things so they are happy to do the bare minimum to cars. The person applying the coating might be well able to do it properly but dealerships won't allow the time to coat a car properly. We were told to sell these coatings to customer but we never did, the kit would cost us about 30 euro, sell to the customer for 400 euro and we were told a full car should only take 90 minutes to apply. If you're interested in getting your ceramic coated then take it to a proper detailer
