I like a bit of logic. What position is your team in the league?

Arsenal are as pumped up on financial steroids as the rest of ‘em. They’re all multi gazillionaires and one bunch of gazillionaires winning the league over another bunch of gazillionaires isn’t something that I’d be worrying too much about. But to answer your question everyone knows that the ‘glee’ will really annoy Arsenal fans at the moment, no one cares about anything else at the moment only annoying Arsenal fans. The faux anger directed toward City will be along presently.

Arsenal truly are bottling it at the moment. Good times.

did i hear gary neville say that they were listening to VAR? do sky and BT have access to that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 55,784 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Why is it 'good times'? I'd really like to know, and what team do you support?

These past 3 games, is like watching the Arsenal of last season. We need to remember, they've not built a title winning side, they're doing what Leicester did, they're living off of the momentum of their great start to the league.

They are a work in progress and are playing some lovely football. They still have a few gaps to fill particularly in defence. I can see them getting there in a season or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,876 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Yeah I think they can. Iirc they have access to the different camera angles and replays ahead of when we see it too.

I'm a Pool supporter & would like to see Arsenal win it; they were cruising against us at 2-0 and on their form this season should have won the last 3 games, they would be 11pts clear going into the City match.

The loss of Saliba seems to have impacted all those in defence around them and shows why City are so dominant; they can cope easily with losing players due to squad depth.

Arsenal need to somehow change their mentality before Wednesday, at the start of the season this would be an incredible position to be in.

However, watching their defence this evening, if City score early it could be a long evening. Based on our recent battles with City, I cannot see them dropping any points until they have won the league.

Nope, it won't happen now unfortunately. City are to far ahead and Newcastle with their oil money will be the only one to challenge them consistently in the next three years, United as well if their oil money comes in.

So does every other team seek Oil sponsors or will we end up with only 3/4 teams capable of competing?

I don't think United need the 'oil money' to be involved...they have been spending plenty enough just not well

its just us paying fans that are too stupid. we might riot or something if we can hear whats going on a bit like the rugby fans.

all the talk from the vested interests about the need for transparency.

that pisses me right off that the broadcasters have access to VAR but the paying consumer (who finance the entire operation) aint worthy enough,

It'll be two or three teams every year depending on United's funding (even though they don't need it).

Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea etc may go close every now and then but will ultimately fall short.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,876 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

That Partey shot at the end. So stupid.

Everyone could see him lining it up, every other person in the stadium collectively shouted "no", but he still did it anyways. Not a good decision.

i would hazard a guess that over the last 10-15 years united is the only PL club not funded by their owners. and worse, actually taking money out of the club. for example roman put in ~1.5bn over 15 years while the glazers took out about ~1.5bn (that includes interest repayments which is attributable to their disgraceful takeover). thats a 3bn swing, which equates to 2 100m players every year for 15 years.

if qatar or SJR take over, everyone will want to liken that to city, but it aint true.

Well in fairness it wasn't the first time someone shouted no but he still shot

FSG have only provided Liverpool with a loan to improve the stadium which I believe is repaid now (could be wrong on that).

I don't think the owners of Spurs have put a penny into the club either. They use club funds for signings and they borrowed from the banks for the stadium.

Edit: Oil money is oil money. And if United win anything with oil money there'll be a big * beside those victories.

If United had FSG in charge then they'd be in a far better position without any owner funding. They already spend a ridiculous amount on players but they spend it poorly. They need the structure in place and with Ten Hagg it looks like they are finally moving in the right direction.

Completely forgot that Arsenal-Southampton match was happening tonight, probably because I was expecting a relatively routine win for the hosts. Quite the result to miss!

So much riding on Wednesday night. I'm mostly a neutral so would love to see Arsenal win it, but it's looking ominous now.

For me it’s a lose lose situation . I can’t stand either side . If Carlsberg did soccer games they’d both lose .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,244 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

It's basically a case of resentment of having to acknowledge the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool if they win something big. When City win, the fans of other clubs don't really care as much because they know City didn't do it off their own back. The club is just riding on the glory train - they're not driving it themselves. So they'll never ever get the respect or recognition that usually comes with being successful. The only reason anyone says anything good about City is because the people profiting from the PL don't want to admit that the league is in disrepute.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

Makes me laugh every time when I see arguments about your billions aren’t as worthy as our billions. And the whingers are always from the ‘old school’ elite who ‘done it proper’. The ‘it’ being generating schillings to spend on players. So really we’re talking about supporting funding models? Gerrup the yard.

Last nights result was a great result for the league and more importantly the TV companies. Keeps it exciting, keeps us interested and therefore watching (€€€).

I hope City hammer Arsenal on Wednesday to turn up the excitement a bit more. Personally I think Arsenal will win the league but please god they keep botting it.

You are surprised that people don't want City who are currently under investigation by the PL for financial doping to win?

Or City who were fined €30m by UEFA for breaking financial rules?

City who somehow we are meant to believe generate more money each year than Real Madrid?

    That City?

On those points, if Shiekh Jassim is the successful bidder and becomes owner of MUFC, if he were to run the club in a similar way to FSG and only spent what the club earned, would you still put "a big *" beside anything Man United win in the future?

MUFC already have the ability to outspend most clubs in the transfer market. If the current debt was wiped and no dividends were being taken out by the new owner, Man United should be able to compete with any club in the world in the transfer market, without the need for owner funding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,791 ✭✭✭McFly85

It is different though, as much as you’d like to say they’re all the same.

City have been accused of breaking financial rules for a decade, and now thanks to their state sponsorship and dodgy fake betting/crypto companies they’re claiming to be the most valuable team in the world in terms of sponsorship revenue.

So it’s one thing to say they’re just spending enough to compete(which I don’t think is a defence at all really), but they’re not doing that, they are artificially inflating the football market with money not possible for other teams to generate in the same way, because generally normal sponsors will not just throw as much money at the club as they need.

City & PSG have broken football and made it more expensive for everyone else. And I don’t mean just the other teams, but supporters too. Everything they’ve won is meaningless.

You're a Chelsea fan aren't you? So not surprising to see this position from you as your own club are exactly the same.

The reality is that if City were not being funded by their owners they would be talked about in the same breath as Forest, Palace, Southampton et al.

As for last night's result, I disagree completely. An arsenal win would have kept it interesting but now its likely City will beat arsenal on Wednesday, win their two games in hand and the league will be over by the first week in May.
