James Coughlan (below) was just one of hundreds of Bruce Springsteen fans who spent days returning again and again to the Croke Park area for fan-organised ‘roll calls’.

James is a loser. Dont be like James.

All the shows in the first USA leg of the tour that finished on April 14 in New Jersey started at 7.45 - 7.50 and lasted 2 hours 40 - 50 mins.

Reckon theyd all turn on each other pretty quickly to get ahead

U2 as well as other acts have a similar die hard fan base who que for days

Each to there own but that type of fandon is def up there with addiction etc

Rail riders/pit pigs are losers. Getting a wristband for Springsteen shows is shrewd. Some of the peeps he gets to his shows down the back don't know how to behave themselves at shows.

Few Americans saying theyre dreading these cretins in Dublin. One gig a decade welly munchers on the piss.

    Wishing them a fast recovery

Covid was in the camp already on the tour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,289 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

While the Jeans and sheaux brigade will be out in force, Eagles 94 tee tucked into their bootcuts, I've seen Bruce in Jersey, and the American's aren't much better.

It is in its arse supported by the promoter. It's a bunch of die-hards who think that their continued attendance grants them some god given right of pit and queue management. It's a load of nonsense and the whole "true fan" böllocks is embarrassing.

Yeah, they designated a meeting time to scrawl numbers on themselves and then tried to skip the actual queue to get a pit wristband at the rds shows. Promoters just went with it after as too much hassle to deal with.

bunch of them ran out before encore as they agreed between themselves that queue for day 2 numbers was beginning.

honestly wonder do they like his music or concerts at this point.

how much improvement of an experience do you get being on the railing or 5 feet back from it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,453 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Agree entirely with you. It's not about being on the railing for these people like it might be for other fans of other bands who want to get close to their favorite artists, it's a delusion of grandeur for these "true fans".

Whilst there's not exactly hundreds of them, there's enough of them that other fans who arrive in singles, pairs or small groups won't stand up to them or get intimidated so they get their way.

Promoters don't go with it, they just don't care about it. They state no queuing is the policy and after that it's the Gardai and/or venues problem. The nutters just think that the promoters indifference to it all is support.

These fans get hard-ons by playing top trumps with each other and ordinary Joe-soaps about how many gigs they've been to. It's the same sort of thing a child does when he claims he's "Man Utd's biggest fan" because he watches all the games and has the full kit. Except these people are grown adults who live in a very sad and pathetic little bubble where they think that Bruce is their best mate because they've spent many many thousands attending gigs.

For reference, I used to date a girl who's parents were these types of people. They were utterly insufferable when it came to Bruce.

Bruce is lucky to have these loyal fans, they help him put food on the table.

Its tough to get by being a farmer in your 70's.

Bruce has played pre-show sets just for the fans involved in the queue. Facilitated and supported by the promoter and not just here in Ireland. The usual negativity towards the process casually ignores this.

In Limerick in '13 the 1000 or so who queued got a wonderful extra bonus experience for a couple hours standing around.

The RDS show queues will be supported by the promoter again.

You may not like it, but accept it.

Think he done the same for Cork in 2013

Jesus the old PUC was a bit of kip, exiting the stadium and walking through the greyhound track (or whatever it was) was pretty dangerous

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,289 ✭✭✭✭hynesie08

Nope, Aiken and Bruce's management are both aware of and support the system, In 2009 at least, the queue was organised in the church car park next door, in Belfast, they let the number queuers in then held everybody else for 15 minutes. In the US where it's a lottery system, a member of Bruce's team will oversee it.

And yes, being close to one of your favourite artists when they sing your favourite song is infinitely better than being in the gods.

Why would you stand up to them, the last roll call is usually 10 hours before doors, and if you show up then, you'll be right up the front, if somebody tries to cut they'll be called out.

That 13 tour he played for anyone who was there when he came on stage, wasn't just the scribblers.

I'm not the biggest fan of the number system, but the reality is that without it, the same people would be on the barrier, they'd just camp out for 2 days.

Yes indeed buddy, Limerick, Cork and Belfast all got solo pre-shows that week. A fantastic time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭Wooderson

I was only at Belfast and Limerick in '13. In Belfast it seemed v open, but for Limerick im not so sure. Were you there? Once the list got to 1000 they stopped counting and we were moved around to another side of Thomond at 1pm. At 3.30 we were let in and he came out at 5 bells for 25 mins. Barely anyone in the stadium outside of the 1000 evil queue-ers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,901 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

In Barca in 2012 there were twats queuing for 2 days and we walked in at 6pm and were standing beside them. We actually moved back a bit. Sound that close to the stage is sh1t. Different if theres a pre show of course. But queuing for 2 days is loserville.

Anyway, the weather would want to pick up sharpish for Dublin. Next week or so is grim.

Yeah, cork was the only one I missed on that tour, Limerick was fairly sparse until just before showtime, but it was a Tuesday, so I just put it down to that, But I watched him play does this bus..... By himself and I didn't have a number on my hand.

Springsteen shows fairly special events and i've no issue with how people navigate them. People showing up later have missed pre-shows but also the actual start of the main show. A bummer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,860 ✭✭✭delbertgrady

The best example of this was in 2003 when ticket holders in the pubs of Ballsbridge were sent into a panic by the roar of the crowd at 7:30 when Bruce walked on stage.

2025 Gigs and Events: Stuart Murdoch, Lyle Lovett, Stuart Murdoch, Wolf Alice, Camera Obscura, The Corrs/Imelda May/Natalie Imbruglia, Iron Maiden, Neil Young/Van Morrison, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Weezer, Sparks (x2), The Doobie Brothers, Billie Eilish (x2), Oasis, Sharon Van Etten, The Human League/Blancmange, Deacon Blue/Turin Brakes, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings (x2), Nerina Pallot, Sleeper, Wolf Alice

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Bingo. If theres anything twatty its missing the start of the gig.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,901 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

If the ticket for a show says 7.30pm sharp and you're still in a pub at 7.20pm then you're a moron.

If the ticket for a show says 7.30pm sharp and you're in the queue at 7.20am two days before then you're a moron.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Cork the only one I missed also 😁

From memory there were two queues, deffo a separate one for the first 1000 or so on the list. What time did you get to the stadium?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,080 ✭✭✭flasher0030

That comment gave me a smile. It is funny, but so very true. There is the obvious logical course of action which most people follow whereby they look forward to the gig, get ready for it, go for a few drinks (if they wish) and attend the concert in timely manner (whilst being aware of the start time, and giving themselves plenty of time to do so).

Like you say, there are morons who will get carried away drinking beforehand and the concert becomes a side-issue for them. They will usually have an element of regret the day after (I've been there many times myself).

And then morons who waste their time and queue for many hours so that they can get within 3 yards from the front - when realistically someone who is just a few feet back from them can get the same view and the same sound.

Jesus I'd be hard pressed to remember, but it was after gates were open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭Wooderson

Fair dues. I've no idea what time the general gates opened. You got lucky as there was no one in the stands/from what i can remember outside the pit. The fact he played for nearly 30 minutes before the show came as a surprise to people who turned up later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,423 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

For the Grandstand I'm wondering do ticket holders for that part of the Stadium have there own area with food/drink kiosks etc or is it just the main area at the back of the Angelsa stand ?

Will be my first time over in that stand, previously standing and in the Angelsa Stand (which is pretty run down tbf)
