Converting Agricultural Barn

    Hi Folks,

We recently bought an old farm with a number of stone outbuildings (Stable, Coach House, and Barn) and would be interested in renovating and converting them into a home office and craft studio (Coach House and Stable) and open entertainment space (Barn). They are already wired for power by the previous owner.

They are quite large (175 sqm) and date back to the mid-1800s. Is this something that we should talk to the planning office about or can we proceed?

You need planning permission to do this if you convert more than 25sq m (assuming you don't already have another store/garage on site)

You can proceed without talking to them first.

Proceeding meaning proceeding to apply for planning permission. 17sqm is really large, it's the size of a house. They would likely suspect this is an attempt to turn the space into a second dwelling
