    Hi all,

thinking of buying one, just wondering anything to look out for or beware?

i think they have a timing chain are they expensive to replace if needed?think they have to be checked at 200000km. i would be servicing the car normally with spurious parts for break pads, air filters etc.

any advice would be great on the car around that year.

    thanks

Wouldn’t recommend one. Its a Renault engine and ruins the whole Mercedes experience imo. Reliable engine. But by no means refined or powerful

Well there's snobbery of the highest order. However, it's ballcocks. Only the 1.5 diesel engine in the W176 A class was a Renault. Needless to say, an A180 doesn't have one of those...

The W177 A180 1.3 petrol also uses a Renault engine, however being a 162 it's not going to have one of those either.

Yeah I just assumed they we’re talking about the Diesel version. Its not snobbery at all, I couldn’t care less what car anyone else drives. I’ve driven the A Class and other Mercedes with 2 litre engines and they are miles apart in terms of power and refinement. I had a top spec A Class AMG Premium Plus which I loved, but grew to hate it because of the awful engine. It may be fine in a Renault but does not suit a Mercedes.
