Changing jobs while going for tender

Hi all,

Hoping for some advice. We are self building and finally in the stage where we are going for tender in the coming weeks. We have been given mortgage approval in principal however I am 6 months into my current 'new' job which is really not for me and is effecting my mental health.

I've been looking at new jobs and have a few interviews lined up. Has anyone moved jobs during a self build? surely its happened before - i'll be getting more money that im on now. I was hoping that maybe if I moved after we got the first draw down with the house the next draw down might be a few months down the line and I could speak to my manager about the salary certificate and passing my probation early.

Looking for people who have been in this position.

Can’t see how any employer would shorten probation period, but no harm in asking I suppose.

I was thinking more the timing, if we got the first draw down in May and I moved jobs and didnt get the 2nd draw down for a few months i'm hoping my new employers might see the value in me early days. wishful thinking I know.

The is no benefit, only risk for an employer when reducing probation period.

Not every employer sets a probation period. When I got my first mortgage this was a question asked by the mortgage officer. I had taken a job only 4 months previously and they assumed I was in probation. It turned out I wasn’t. They were particularly surprised as I was an employee of the same bank whom they understood always enforced a probation period. It was only a 1.2 times mortgage so I expect they’d have given me an exemption anyway.

Jobs with no probation period must be few and far between, for obvious reasons.

In reality, unfair dismissals legislation doesn’t kick in until the 2 year period so the probation period of 6 months is hardly any guarantee. Alternatively, maybe I was just special!

Though UDA protections commence after 12 months of service, it is certainly easier to terminate employment during the probation period, hence why it is unusual for employment contracts not to have one.

If you're only six months into your current job wouldn't securing the mortgage in the first place not be your main concern? AIP is not a guarantee you'll actually get approved.

Once you get approval and start the draw down you can do what you want, there were no further checks bar build stage when we built. i went from being employed to self-employed during the process, of course i didn't tell the bank that.
