Its no surprise really getting rid of a novice manager who fluked a 2 team league for an experienced proven winner was always going to lead to an improvement. They've had an extremely favourable run of games however Leicester West ham Palace Everton Bournemouth these are very poor teams who you'd expect Villa to beat. I've watched Villa a bit recently they are not playing particularly well they are grinding out results I'd expect their form to level off soon as they encounter better teams.

Well since it was postponed since September and was chosen back then to be broadcast, Sky can't change their postponed picks this has been covered and explained nearly every midweek for these postponed games that were not chosen for TV on the original dates but were the only games being played in a mid week slot but not on TV as the premier league try to catch up on games.

What about Emery beating United, Tottenham and Chelsea? 6 wins and 1 draw from 8 away games under Emery? Hardly the record of a flat track bully doing only what they’re supposed to.

The only top 8 team Emery hasn’t played under his Villa reign is Newcastle. Yes, there are tough games to come also, but that’s the nature of it, you play roughly half your games against both top 10/bottom 10 teams.

He's done very well no doubt about it but the recent run of form has been against the worst teams in the division and I personally believe they'll level out.

Bournemouth aside, I’m not sure I agree.

Chelsea, Everton, Palace, West Ham and Leicester are not contenders by any stretch, but 4 of those 5 were away from home, and I don’t think anyone considers Stamford Bridge, London Stadium, Selhurst Park and Goodison Park to be easy places to go.

4 of those 5 teams are right in the middle of the relegation battle and Chelsea are in nowhere land. Don’t think anyone is thinking they’re difficult away games

To be fair to Rangers, they really didn’t fluke that league, they were absolutely sensational that season. It just seems like maybe more of that was down to Michael Beale than Gerrard.

T’was after Beale left that things turned bad for Gerrard at Villa, while Beale has gone on to do brilliant jobs as the main man at both QPR and Rangers. He looks a potentially top manager.

Most away games in the league are difficult for everyone other than City and Arsenal, no?

Id find most home games (bar the absolute best teams in the league) as easier than say West Ham away.

It wasn’t great for Gerrard at Villa even before Beale left to be honest. He had a new manager bounce and not much more than that unfortunately.

To put that into further context actually, those 6 away games won under Emery are the only 6 away games Villa have won this season, and no team other than City and Arsenal have won more than 6 away games this season. The argument just doesn’t hold up to facts.

    liverpool’s last 5 games. Lost 3 Drew 1 Won 1 Conceded 6 Scored 8.

Klopp’s 7 goal victory over Utd is worthy of inclusion in that little run.

Chelsea getting Lampard as interim manager till the end of the season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,567 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

To go from Tuchel, to Potter, to Lampard is utterly laughable.

If they stay on this trajectory of downgrading their managers, I can’t wait to see who’s next. Could be Gary Neville or Chris Kamara at this rate. 😂

Liverpool fans would be delighted if that were the case.

lampard back till the end of the season should be interesting. but dont get it, why not get enrique now?

It does sort of confirm that they’ll be hiring Nagelsman in the summer. It’s been reported that he wants a little break before his next job, wants to come to the Premier League and then Chelsea go out and hire an interim a day or two later.

It's a lucky break for Frankie. He has an opportunity to rehabilitate himself, so to speak.

Surprised to see Super Frank on his way back to Chelsea, he could take them to a lofty 15th in the table.

Real will be delighted with that. Not that they were too worried anyway I'de say.

He just keeps failing upwards I honestly can't believe the continued chances this fraud is getting and Chelsea are an example as to how not to run a club.

Is Frank gonna be the new Avram Grant?? Does he know where some of the Chelsea bodies are buried or something (so to speak, not actual bodies in case anyone gets offended 😒)

Getting Lampard in is borderline reckless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,774 ✭✭✭Ferris_Bueller

Can't make sense of Lampard getting the gig on an interim basis. I understand it with teams such as Palace who need a motivator in the short term to keep them up, but Chelsea have nothing to lose by appointing a Nagelsman or Enrique now? You'd think they only have more to gain really as they would get additional time working with the squad and seeing who they want to keep/get rid of ahead of the real work in pre-season. Bizarre.

Or just leave Potter where he was til the end of the season then send him on his way? Hiring lampard is just top-bantz for Chelsea, nothing else

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

Initially Lampard did well working with the younger players when first appointed by Chelsea. Maybe they think he can do similar. Why is that these Tory boys always seem to land in their feet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭It is a Dunne Deal

The goal west ham have just given away has to be seen to be believed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭POKERKING

Better to hire lampard and wait for the right manager than hire someone thats not right for the sake of it. They could of avoided this of course by just keeping potter in til the end of the season and lining someone up behind the scenes.

Maybe frank wins them the champions league, he had got them to this stage i think when he was sacked last time so maybe a chance of retribution! They tend to do well in europe with caretaker managers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,873 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Getting Lampard in basically means they don't want to be in Europe next season.

They're only 4 or 5 points away from EC spots but won't get one now, IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,174 ✭✭✭✭Sand

It might be that either of those managers simply don't want the hassle of coming in now to take over driving a car crash that hasn't finished rolling over yet. Professionally, they might prefer to wait until they can get in at the end of the season and get a fresh start with a full pre-season to work with the squad, train the team in their ideas, etc. Chelsea's season is a total write-off anyway, so nothing lost by waiting for the right man.

Some barely know coach or a youth team manager would look better than bringing back a proven nobody.
