Shirt pull now in the box. Spurs have a VAR invisibility shield?

    Do Spurs own VAR?

Already looking forward to that ref on Sky trying to justify this.

There's been enough reasons in this game alone to scrap VAR altogether.

Why don't the Spurs players just pick the ball up,run the length of the field and punch the ball into the net?

Poor auld Brighton, deserved 3 points on merit, and instead they’ve none.

Was listening to talk sport recently (i know that in itself is the problem) and they were having a discussion about if Lampard wins the Champions league with Chelsea should he get the job permanently.... I sure do miss that Pac man emoticon

One of the biggest injustices I've seen in a single game. Lee Mason really shouldn't have bothered resigning if these clowns are still there.

That Brighton Spurs game was ridiculous, the ref just refused to give Brighton anything and VAR would only intervene if it helped Spurs. You'd wonder.

Brighton clearly robbed but even the Stellini red card made absolutely no sense. He was standing away from all the commotion around De Zerbi but still got sent off. Stuart Atwell and whoever was in charge of VAR for that game shouldn't referee another game this season

Commentary on peacock said both managers were shown a red card for failure to keep control of their technical areas.

Brighton absolutely robbed that was criminal. Massive wins for West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth. Leicester looked gooseed a lot of players there who think they are better than they are no guts for a relegation scrap. Newcastle win their fifth in a row having been behind at half time.

here's the highlights. 100% a pen. mitoma disallowed goal for handball is suspect. the other disallowed goal...unsure what that was for but could be a function of the not great replay.

the man is just unstoppable. brings his tally to 30 in the league, 44 in all comps

I've rewatched both Brightons alleged handballs from multiple angles and still can't see how they were varred out?

What surprised me most is that Mitoma's goal was disallowed by the linesman. It's very unusual these days for a linesman to get involved in that situation when he knows VAR is there to take responsibility.

I'm not sure what the rule is these days. If above the sleeve line is not handball, as was the case last year, then 100% it's a valid goal. Even if above the sleeve is handball then it is not clear that it should be ruled out.

But for some reason that linesman wanted to disallow that goal. And VAR official was too gutless to overturn it. The media seem to be getting behind the story so hopefully those officials will at least be punished.

The second one is fine. It deflects off his hand into the net. I don't care where his hand is, if the key touch that makes the goal comes off the hand then it should be ruled out.

If it touches the hand at all, I agree with you, but I've yet to see a conclusive angle that it does. Do you happen to have one?

That Brighton game makes a mockery of VAR

VAR was meant to be brought in to stop awful decisions like we saw in the Brighton match but like the days before VAR it's reliant on refs like Attwell who shouldn't be referring at this level of the game

I've gone really sour on VAR and I was a big advocate of it BUT the refs and the powers that be have destroyed it

Just watched the Brighton highlights on MOTD. Absolutely the worst example of the farce of VAR. Brighton robbed of two penalties and at least one goal there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 12,267 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

Said 20 times already but the refereeing of that Spurs v Brighton game was an absolute disgrace.

Lenglet handball should have been a pen, not given. Mitoma goal disallowed for handball when it hit him on the shoulder (could have also been a pen as Romero pushed him in the back with 2 hands). Welbeck disallowed goaL was a farce. Dunk could have had a pen. Mitoma taken down for a pen, not given.

What’s the **** point if that’s the standard of officiating?

They wont get rid of VAR, but football would be much more enjoyable if they did.

The technology for VAR is fine it's just the eejits running it being the problem. So different game, same story as before. The refs in the PL are terrible, and thus you could give them an as of yet undeveloped AI system that could logically calculate the correct call for every situation known to man as per the rules and give them that in less than a second... And they'd still get it wrong.

This weekend the team to feel (rightfully) wronged is Brighton. Next week it will be Everton, or Wolves or Bournemouth. It'll keep happening until they address the route cause of the terrible standard of refs in the PL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

It was always going to come down to humans and interpretation same as before VAR. All it's done is sucked the joy out of a goal because now you can't celebrate till VAR says so.

There should be an investigation into how that game was handled yesterday. Absolute disgrace.

thank god for that. i'm sure brigton are happy:

The PGMOL has admitted a mistake was made by the match officials and VAR when not awarding a penalty to Brighton in Sunday's Premier League game against Tottenham.

The PGMOL has apologised for Brighton for not awarding them the penalty when Mitoma was fouled - this is the third apology Brighton have been given by PGMOL this season for decisions made on the field.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,952 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

How far up the table do these apologies move them?

There's just no consistency to how VAR is applied they took 6 minutes to decide on a penalty for Brentford today (clear and obvious eh?) Yet they barely looked at an obvious penalty for Brighton it's just mind boggling.

We need to hear the discussions between VAR and refs in real time no good this nonsense of PGMOL coming out with an excuse or an apology after the game. If there's nothing to hide let us hear it.
