He has zero assists this season. That is shocking. He looked just ok Sunday, but so would anyone in that game around the rest of them.

    0 assists.

Hard to assist when we don't have a no9 or anyone in the box...

Yep, was doing well cause he was getting separation from burn and causing him issue. We lost that when sancho came on.

We could consider a lot of things sure, such as Bruno always being first choice for example.

But inconsistency was the word used and when I see Bruno repeatedly play extremely poorly, hear a comparison to Nani, check the stats and see that they support the comparison, then my thought is that Bruno is indeed as inconsistent as Nani was considered to be.

Would we play better if Bruno stopped giving the ball away so cheaply? Why is it everybody else's fault that he has less assists than Erikson? Ronaldo had 18 PL goals last season but Bruno only had 6 assists, is that Ronaldos fault?

I still hold to the view that Bruno is rated far higher than his contributions deserve, and the club needs to demand far more from him. The last thing we need is yet another player who only performs well when everybody else does, he needs to stop coasting on his early reputation at the club.

Eriksen back in training with the team, great news. If we can get through the next two games we will then get casemiro back and eriksen should be starting to come into the team around then two. Getting both back into the team should be huge. If martial can stay fit and get sharp too it should look a lot more promising.

Have to be aiming for 3 league wins heading into the spurs game at the end of the month.

A player like Nani would be a godsend to the current team.

Yeah, nani was given a short stick at united. Played left to accommodate Ronaldo and then valencia. Had a great season when valencia was out injured. Should have been player of the season over bale, if I'm remembering the seasons correctly.

for the whole season, all competitions

    Antony - 7 goals, 1 assist

    Garnacho - 4 goals, 5 assists

Antony has played twice the number of minutes Garnacho has. It's obviously not helping that we don't have a decent centre forward and "assists" is an imperfect metric, but he does need to improve his delivery as well.

I remember Valencia as a far better and more consistent player to Nani. I think it was the season we lost to city Valencia was nearly a one man show trying to drive us to the title!

Nani ranged from Frustratingly inconsistent to moments of sheer class. He had one great season , maybe another solid one but never fully reached his potential in my view.

Bruno is not really inconsistent game to game. He is inconsistent minute to minute. He can play some of the most outrageously good passes and does so usually once a game. He almost always creates a chance or two. But yeah he gives away a lot of the ball.

I'd say a comparison with Nani is interesting even though Nani is a winger and they are usually inconsistent. I feel Bruno should be played exclusively on the wing/right side because no team can afford to have that kind of unpredictability down the spine, and he still can create from there. Antony, even though he has been judged harshly, he doesn't create enough out there.

When Erikson comes back, maybe EtH might think about Erikson at 10, Bruno and Rashford out wide with Martial up front.

Would be gas if ETH did an utterly mad thing and tried Antony a one dimensional left footed player on the left wing, 🤔

The problem is that Bruno is awful when played on the wing, just repeatedly awful out there.

If he can only be good when played as the fulcrum of the attack then he cannot be given the luxury of inconsistency, he needs to perform in that role or be replaced, I would have little interest in shoehorning him in elsewhere.

That doesn't just mean an assist or goal every ten minutes, it also means things like keeping hold of the ball and effective pressing. He wants to think of himself as a captain then he needs to show the leadership out there, he doesn't get to blame everybody else for not getting the best out of him.

Bruno has better pass completion than KDB, and is fairly typical for a creative attacking player. The idea that he constantly loses the ball is a myth.

In terms of chance creation, successful passes into the box etc Bruno is amongst the highest in the league.

One interesting data set is expected assisted goals. Eriksen has the highest differential for A-xAg, while Bruno has the joint lowest. Is this luck or is there a possible explanation why our players have such a large variance in shot success depending on who is passing the ball?

If Qatar buy United, could see them wanting him at United - assuming Champions League football.

    But Barcelona most likely.

At this stage of his career it would be a crazy signing for United. Have we learned nothing after Ronaldo!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

To be fair to ETH, the reason he got Ericson and Casemerio was because our midfield was just so weak. To be missing one for a long period would be hard enough but to miss both for such a significant phase of the season has been rough.

Im gonna be optimistic and say they return at the most important time to make top 4 comfortably.

I presume everybody sees spurs as the greatest challenge to a potential top 4 spot.

and they are currently on course for 65 points if they continue on in their season trend. That would mean 5 wins and a draw out of last 11 games should be enough. Even if you stretch that to 70 points (spurs would need 20 points out of 27) United still only need 7 wins and a draw and could lose 3 games.

In terms of Bruno; swap him and Nani in the squads/teams they were playing with I don’t think Nani’s stats improve. Bruno can be frustrating but he’s a top class player to have on your team. He doesn’t play every game because ETH has a soft spot for him.

It’s going to be what Messi wants I’d say and that’s surely going to be Barca

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,721 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Or inter Miami... Surely barca couldn't afford him

Can you imagine where his shots would end up if he cut in from the left onto his right foot…..how a professional footballer can manage to make their way through umpteen coaches from 7 or 8 years of age in Brazil and not be able to use his weaker foot is startling.

You would wonder was it an unwillingness on his own part to put the hours in to improve it……..or did he get an easy time from coaches…..I think it’s the former.

i think its the fact that when growing up, he was prob always better than his peers so never needed to use his RF. but youth coaches should be made to coach the use of your bad foot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭d22ontour

So his goals and assists since he joined don't count ? Yes his whining sucks but on his game he is good enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,201 ✭✭✭Robson99

He has been very poor this season and tbh there are f**k all big games that he has performed well in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,697 ✭✭✭✭bucketybuck

What I watched on Sunday was not a myth, nor was it an isolated game. I have no interest in debating with Opta or the mighty Xg but I watch most Unted games and think that Bruno gets away with murder, both because of the good start he made and because there are always worse players that take the attention away from him. There is going to come a time when he cannot hide behind those sorts of things and needs to consistently drag the team to victories. And if he cannot do that then he needs to be sidelined.

I predict one thing. If Ten Hag ever brings United back to the top level, to the level of performance seen from Liverpool and City this past 4/5 years for example, then Bruno won't be a starter in that side. Just as he wouldn't have been in those Liverpool/City sides.

I think it was Neville who referred to Bruno as a moments player earlier in his united career and I think that’s exactly what he is, can do great things in certain moments of the game.

My issue with Bruno is those moments seem a lot less frequent then they were in the first 18 months and his overall performances don’t justify his guaranteed status.

I don’t see him as an obvious player for ETH as he gives away the ball so much but that said he plays him every minute of every game. In his defence he must be wrecked as he never gets a rest, but for me he has deserved to be dropped at times this season.

A win or draw sees us back into third if Moysie can do us a favour!
