Lack of belief and faith on these forums is something to behold.😄😄

Lose the fear and wataboutery lads,

Galway have yet to play a team at Mayos conditioning level.

Is in Croke park, not tuam.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51 ✭✭Mf 265

We played ye already in league!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,374 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

    Totally agree here.

Why would you not want to win a league final v Galway after the great league season they have had.

A league win is the perfect way to be starting the championship.

And remember it's Roscommon they are playing in the opener, not Jim Gavin's Dublin at their prime.

Just follow the link in the email, then you have to choose your seat. Follow the procedure as though you are buying a ticket, the cost is 0.

Yes, and mayo were far more conditioneder than Galway at the time……………..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 820 ✭✭✭RedDevil55

Comer played the full game, as did McDaid. They were only missing Shane Walsh really. So very close to full strength.

But didn't have COC, Conroy, Durcan. Can't remember if McLaughlin played...

Unfortunately we won't have Cillian or Conroy this weekend either.Hession and Brickenden out as well of course. If we had all those guys I think it might tip it in Mayos favour. As it is its Galways to lose.

I'm not sure about McLaughlin, named on the bench last week but not used.

    At least paddy is back.

    Edit and great news!

The Mayo News (ie the reputable football paper) reporting Tommy C will at least tog on Sunday.Thats a major bonus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,905 ✭✭✭HBC08

Cillian not ruling himself out either!

I think reading between the lines he won't make it but a great boost to think he might be in the picture for Roscommon game.

    Things are looking up.

Any word on Hession? Would be great to see him back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,938 ✭✭✭Coillte_Bhoy

Winning Connacht would see us seeded so yes it would almost certainly be an easier path

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,198 ✭✭✭PressRun

What I heard was that he picked up an injury v Kerry, had recovered somewhat and then injured again in a challenge match. But who knows.

Was thinking about this earlier and the best/worst permutations are something like this:

Best possible group (based on league positions plus realistic provincial results) if provincial winners:

2nd seed: Clare; 3rd seed: Donegal; 4th seed: Westmeath

Best possible group (based on league positions plus realistic provincial results) if 3rd seed:

1st seed: Dublin; 2nd seed: Sligo; 4th seed: Westmeath

Worst possible group (based on league positions plus realistic provincial results) if provincial winners:

2nd seed: Monaghan; 3rd seed: Galway; 4th seed: Derry

Worst possible group (based on league positions plus realistic provincial results) if 3rd seed:

1st seed: Kerry; 2nd seed: Monaghan; 4th seed: Derry

Open to corrections on the above but I think for teams already assured of being a 3rd seed, the provincials don't make a massive difference. For teams who might end up as a 4th seed though, they're still very important IMO (e.g. if we had finished 6th in D1, the provincial would be important).

This is very true,I've been thinking about it a lot the last while.

Its just that many people cant/don't fully understand it because its natural to think we must go hell for leather for a provincial.

Over the next year or two as thi will play out and it'll become more apparent and dawn on people.. At that stage I think the next reforms will see the provincial moved to a pre season competition or something like that.

I have no strong feelings either way on keeping or getting rid of the provincial championships.I really do hope that Mayo fans will be smart about the way the fixtures have fallen and be able to see the long game though.

Yer surely not deviating from the below forward line that has worked so well in the league even if Conroy/Cillian are fit?

    Touhy/McD, Carney, Flynn

    AOS, Carr, Rod

Conroy if he works his way back to 2021 form (albiet he looked very fast v Donegal) would obviously get in there somewhere later in the year but surely be madness to change the above now?

    Hessions a loss alright

I think they will definitely tweak the championship next season. Only provincial winners should be guaranteed a place in group stages for Sam. Rest based on league position.

The pre-quarter finals should also go to free up a another week so the league final gets more prominence and not have the provincials starting straight after.

Some shock seeing Tyrone out of the 20s with Cush and Canavan still there as key players from last years All Ireland win. Down seem to be on a fair bounce right through the ranks.

Excited to see how our (very young with a lot of the minors from last year involved, so a pretty experimental year for them) lads get on once Connacht gets rolling. That said, lads like Morahan, Fallon and Dawson would all been looking at Sam and Bob doing a job for the seniors and thinking they might not have been too far away either.

If the lads aren’t going hell for leather to beat the rosses in ten days and Galway a fortnight after. You can forget about them like. It’s not imperative we win but it’s an advantage having played tough games and knowing how we respond and how ou r subs perform and stuff there’s load of time between the first group game and Connacht semi final

maybe it’s different being close to the border but there isn’t a better crowd to beat than Galway and u can be sure they think the same 😂

Still no sign of decent tickets yet. Assume upper tiers will open soon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,374 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

The pre-quarter finals should also go to free up a another week so the league final gets more prominence and not have the provincials starting straight after.

The value of the pre-quarter finals is that they will almost entirely eliminate dead rubbers in the group stages.

With three coming out of a group that last game means something to someone.

We had dead rubbers in the old Quarter final group stages and they were exactly that, dead rubbers.

There were loads of central lower Hogan and Cusacks in the past couple of hours. Still plenty of great seats but they're singles. Keep an eye out because I doubt they'll open up Uppers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,791 ✭✭✭muddle84

Upper cusack was an option for me when the tickets were released first!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,839 ✭✭✭Sebastian Dangerfield

Ive been checking a few times a day since Tuesday, using the 'Best Tickets' section, and all Im getting are corner flags or behind the goals.

Before anyone says it, I know therell be loads of free seats when the dubs leave, but Id quite like to see the first game too.

Everytime theres an "available" game in CP I play chicken til the point I buy **** seats, then they open prime half way tickets 5 mins later

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,355 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

I'd definitely check TM at 9 on the dot tomorrow. They're releasing 307's in drips and drabs all week anyways. Only use the seats map because the Best Tickets filter generally gives the worst and most available sections like Davin/Hill.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,355 ✭✭✭SqueakyKneecap

A few 330's are up now folks. Won't beat those for location at this late stage

Looking forward to the match now, should be a good tight game and a good test for both teams to see where we stand. Midfield is where we probably have an advantage with McDaid being out for Galway and Conroy (although he always seems to play well against us) aged 34 can hopefully be got at. I'd expect us to try to put the Galway keeper (will be interesting to see if Power holds his place) under pressure for most of the game.

Both sets of backs are likely to be under pressure with a good few new faces in there although Galway probably have a better overall defensive system than we do. I presume we'll have some plan in place for tracking Sean Kelly rather than having AOS chasing back after him.

If we can keep a clean sheet (only managed 3 so far in the league), I think we'll win by a point or two but that's a fairly big IF
