Didn't hear BOC show today but RTE have long entertained these spoofers. Tubridy had that Joe Coleman gobshite on the LLS on at least twice.

Yeah I was wondering was it that one he was referring too as it was the only sizeable one I could think of.

I was at that march, not partaking but working, and the general consensus between the hacks and photographers was that it was in the region of 5K people. I thought it was nearer 4k myself but others thought 5k. No one said 50k because it wasn't. It wasn't any where near 50k.

Like Brendan, I should've switched off as soon as I heard he was on the show.

Exaggerating a lot and I notice we're back to labelling anyone with the smallest misgivings about the surge of international asylum arrivals, as right wing nuts. That a large part of this and other shows also deal with the housing crisis, it's amazing how RTE panels can never even think to mention the unfortunate impact of uncontrolled immigration.

Your estimation sounds about right. That wouldn't stop RTE or The IT running with the 50k bs though.

A decent article/view on it from Mc Guirk (who the Govt would compare with Goebbels) here

When did the Government compare McGuirk to Goebbels or is that just made up to go with the article ?

The comments section tells a lot about his audience.

Nice bit of deflection going that route elps. All I want to know is why RTE reported that organisers said there was 50k at the march when there clearly was only a fraction of that? Also, why did BOC not correct O'Gorman when he also mentioned the 50k figure? Brendan loves correcting people but chose not to on this occasion. BOC should have said 'according to the organisers' when the 50k was mentioned but he just let it hang there, thus giving the impression that the fig was correct.

For context, the Aviva capacity is about 50k

Good call Ginneral…. Ballsy is clipping along on a huge wedge for basically facilitating liggers promoting their wares.

Nothing wrong there of course but let’s shine a light on the reality here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,146 ✭✭✭✭elperello

You brought McGuirk to the party so don't accuse me of deflection.

That whole article is just one big deflection.

McGuirk doesn't care about the numbers at all, he's just having a go at the organisers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,121 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

Yep, I agree that Mc Guirk was having a go at the organisers and rightly so imo. It was basically a march, by and for NGO's, for the continuation of the policies that keep them in jobs...lots and lots of jobs. I think he does care about the numbers. What he seems to care about is the exaggerated numbers being used across all MSM outlets inc the big guys IT, RTE. It annoys me too and I'm a bit of a left leaning sort for years.

I'm still disgusted with Brendan for not pulling up the grifter O' Gorman on his (50k) blatant falsehood. Then again...one grifter turning a blind eye to another grifter in the grifting capital of Ireland [Montrosia] isn't that surprising really

Once again Ginneral you have nailed your point.

Keep on with common sense talk.

    Badly needed round these parts.

The people you dismiss with the pejorative term "grifters" are actually the antidote to the poison spread by the likes of McGuirk.

People like Ailbhe Smith, Colm O'Gorman ( followed by Maeve Lewis ) and others in the NGO community have changed Irish society for the better.

They are closer to the reality of life in this country than the right wing nay sayers who will never make a contribution of any worth because they are too bound up by ideologies that would bring us backwards.

That's why they are seen as a threat by the right when they take to the streets with music and positivity.

I can't say whether BO'C knew the true number in the protest, I don't know the true number and I suspect you don't either.

Whatever it was the number is secondary to the message which is what the right really fear.

When Is McGuirk going to issue an apology for aggressively pushing the debunked Dungarvan rape story?

There is literally no point in replying to this post in detail for the following reason - 'There are none so blind as those who will not see'

I'll go this route instead. It's fair to say that you would be a fan of PK. I think most people (including myself) know that Pat is very competent broadcaster and a decent guy in general. Have a listen to this podcast where Pat takes a few lumps out of Nick-the grift-Henderson from the NGO Irish council for refugees.

The piece starts at 00:52 You can actually hear the frustration, annoyance, incredulity in Pat's voice. The last couple of minutes are very good as grifty Henderson struggles to defend the passport trashers. Grifty only went on the show before the news hoping to run down the clock and didn't expect Pat to run 2 mins over into the news time. Fantastic radio

Pat also started digging into it further and Barry Whyte did a report on the pp trashing. This was played on the radio show 8th of Feb but I can't find it.

Pat was beginning to go 'dog with a bone' on this but it looks like he's been nobbled by the powers that be. Going by your metrics elpo - McGuirk, Pat Kenny and Michael McDowell are spreading poison...for just asking questions!

When one Googles 'Grifter' the first result should be 'Brendan O'Connor' - €250k for 4 hours p/w for c40 weeks p/a - Ultimate grift club

I'll be disengaging on this now aware that I'm boring the hoops off people so (as before) I'll leave you with the last word.

    Not boring this poster Ginneral….!

A tidy €1,500 per HOUR approx for Brendan. Nice work if you can get it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,937 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

And don't forget he also gets paid by the Irish Indo as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,146 ✭✭✭✭elperello

Seeing as you have retired from the discussion I won't respond to your post in the interest of fairness.

    All the best, E

Aaaah…. Ballsy issues a sigh of relief after a 40 minute ‘discussion’ and settles down to facilitate the ‘pluggerama’ by the usual liggers.

First up Hes off with the ‘listen’ and Michael Harding.

Edit….. two ‘listens ‘ in the first two minutes.

Will we get a ‘C’mere to me’ 5/4 on.

Mother a jaysus, what is this show’s obsession with this absolute waffler? He’s never not on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

i was driving for the last hour and gave O’Connor my ears. It’s a tough listen. At this stage he should change his name to “Disclaimer”. Everything gets the disclaimer treatment.

Tom Parlon of the CIF was on with his usual “the builders need more help in the form of grants and tax rebates” and “it’s everybody’s fault but the builders” and then we reached a new low (even for him) when he started praising Michael Lowry. He even stated that modular and timber frame houses cost basically the same as bricks and mortar - and this went unchallenged by O’Connor. They cost a fraction of bricks and mortar, and that’s before you put labour costs in.

    All in all, a mess.

There may be advantages to him getting the late late gig (which I don’t watch). Wouldn’t be on weekend radio anymore?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,385 ✭✭✭✭Brendan Bendar

I think he did take up Parlon in relation to his praise of Lowry and “he delivers for his people” expression.

Regarding the disclaimer stuff….. my theory is that if he balanced the panel better he wouldn’t have to be the only contrary voice all these panels can pump out.

I mean who were those panelists on this morning, who was that Minnie one?

who was the geezer with the Irish name …. Where are they ‘coming from’?

    All stuff we should know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,052 ✭✭✭✭Beechwoodspark

The Minnie Mooney one is a self appointed spokeswoman for everyone under 40 in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53,028 ✭✭✭✭ButtersSuki

Yeah, he did “check” re. the praise, but Parlon doubled down on it.

I’m no fan of Parlon’s in his former PD role or his current role, but I’ll say this for him, he gets air time and he’s very vocal about the group he represents. If you didn’t know otherwise you’d think builders and property developers were a non-profit organizations the way he goes on.

Singer Tolü Makay was on with him yesterday and apparently she went to the now infamous Wilsons Hospital school for a while. She was going to elaborate on her time there, where apparently the school insisted on calling her Elizabeth rather than an African name like Tolü. Which is kinda weird given the current goings on over names. But anyway Ballsy shouted her down and switched the subject. Got to the stage that he's a pathetic parody of his old moniker.

Useless. Herself and Christina Finn - mediocrity personified.

I'm baffled that Finn keeps getting asked back given how bad she is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,871 ✭✭✭plodder

I heard that. I've forgotten the exact phrase she used to describe the school, but it set the legal alarms ringing in BOC's head.

The other bizarre moment from yesterday's program was the doctor describing the health effects of the clock-change. Okay, some people have strong opinions on the question, but that was completely over the top. No surprise the 'snowflake' reactions from some listeners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,146 ✭✭✭✭elperello

You could look at it this way, most of us are too busy to sit and look at the sunset so we sublet the job out to MH and then he comes on the radio and makes us realise that we can do it for ourselves.

It's not that bad a deal.

    C'mere, I kid you not.

A thing isn't what it says it is.

A thing is what it does.
