New pasture pump - any advice

Finally took the plunge and got a la buvette pasture pump for pumping water from a stream for the cattle.

Any advice on setting it up and encouraging cattle to drink from it. From what I can see I need to buy the pipe separately, but it comes with a non return valve that I attach to the top of a stake in the stream, so it is off the river bed.

Hi, how did the training work out? Do you need to fill the bowl manually to attract the cattle to the bowl and they eventually work out how to fill bowl?

I wet the area around the pasture pump by purging through a gallon or two.

Once one animal starts to drink the rest will follow.

The biggest trick is to have a slight fall backwards so the animal will push forward to get water from the back of the bowl

Hi I have a well in one field I have a few 2ft pipes and its roughly 12-15ft deep I don't think the water is over high in this well but I will dip it this weekend would this work well with a pasture pump? Also what is the max distance the pump can be away as I could get a few pumps and feed a few fields from the one pump perhaps

I you want to feed a few fields from a single well would you not be better off with a solar pump?

Maybe that would be the better way to do it I must enquire. Is there a tams grant for doing this now? Wonder could it be pumped to say 90gal drinkers instead of a pasture pump.

Any one any idea what kind of distance these pumps could pump the water

I use something like this in 2 different locations. 1 is pumping from a river the other from a well. No idea how far you could pump, but claimed 50m Head height (although that seller says 30m is practical). I pump to an IBC placed at a height above the drinkers and let gravity feed the them. The IBC also provides a buffer for the dark wet days where pump may be slower to fill. I also use a float switches in the IBCs to control the pumps and 100Ah batteries which power the electric fences too.

Edit: I should probably also point out that I have only had 20 cows with calves max rotating around either of these farm blocks. More cattle may need a beefier system (or just multiple panels/pumps)
