It’s ok so far. A lot more chill than Revenue. My old Revenue office was very intense.

I am only 4 days in so can’t say much yet.

Justice doesn’t have the same flexi as Revenue which sucks. You can’t work up extra flexi to carry over when WFH in Justice. In Revenue you could and I always had 1 and half day to carry over every 4 weeks which was handy. Guess I will just have to accept it’s gone now haha

This office is a shorter commute distance for me so I am delighted with that.

    Hi.

Have my interview coming up shortly. Does anyone have any tips or sample questions?

    I've prepared answers for ;

    Tell me about yourself

    Experience relating to the role

    How do you stay organised

    Teamwork

    How do you maintain confidentiality

How do you handle disgruntled clients

How do you priorotise tasks with same deadline

    Strengths & weaknesses

Tell me about a project you have worked on that you are proud of

Some of the potential issues with sending and recieving email

Tell me about a time you went over and above for a customer

How would you priorotise a project that involved a lot of data

How would you deal with a colleague not pulling their weight?

CO groups which started end of last year are doing online remote training AFAIK. Staff aren't in the office to even given 1 to 1 mentoring if you are there. Some days could be a ghost town, the odd few bodies in the office.

I just can't see how you will be in an office every day for 6 months.....

So for training remotely and/or wfh in the Civil Service as a CO, what sort of home set up do you need? Will a kitchen table with good WiFi suffice or do you need an "office" with proper desk etc?

Though, with my previous experience I wouldn't be surprised if I get a public facing role. :-(

    Every department varies.

DSP use laptops mainly, and I'm not sure what else is provided.

Revenue provide you with a laptop or else desktop with 2 monitors if required for your role. This will have to be wired directly into your router as no WiFi on the device. Also an office Cahir and desk can be requested.

WFH applications will have to complete an assessment of your work area.

To be honest, a kitchen table and chair gets annoying very quickly and won't "pass" the WFH questionnaire, again it's you who fill this out..... A corner of a room to put a desk in would be perfect or an area under a stairs etc.

@shmeee Can I ask you please, I wonder now if I can pass WFH questionnaire if I live in rural area, I use Imagine internet provider as it is only one available where I live. Do you know anyone who lives in rural area and works from home? Thank you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,800 ✭✭✭✭shmeee

Yes - many people do. No issue, once you hit 5-10mbps you'll have no issues. I can confirm the systems even work when internet drops to 2mbps. I've run them off a Three mobile router without any issues, be similar to imagine.

And I don't even thing the WFH form even asks about your broadband provider.

How long does it generally take if you have been provisionally assigned to a position before all of the checks are done and your references are contacted?

    Hi everyone,

I am living in Mayo and I’m 292 in the order of merit. I got an interview for a position in Galway today but obviously it’s to far to travel, but I’m wondering is it possible to ask to work from home if I get the position? Also if I go ahead with the interview I will no longer be in the campaign for Mayo where I actually want. Thank you

No idea, this one was supposed to be over in Jan 2023 but still ongoing. It was to be a 1 year panel but has gone a couple of months past this now.

    Hi All.

I've been offered a position in AGS in Navan. My vetting is cleared for PAS & GCH. Does anyone know how long it'll take for the final layer of vetting and when I should get a start date. Does anyone else here work in this department in Navan & how are u finding it. Can u do WFH ?

    Thanks x

@CivilServiceNew They say it can take up to three months but mine only took four weeks. I'm with AGS in Waterford. There isn't a WFH option yet but my HEO is pushing for it to be an option.

Hi all, I've applied for the TCO 2023B panel and have to do the online assessment. I assume the test will be the same as you took yourselves - Verbal Interpretation, Numerical Interpretation, Checking Test, Categorising Information. Are there other categories that come up - maybe a series of work situation question?

Also, how did people prepare for the test. For the first part (Verbal Interpretation, Numerical Interpretation, Checking Test, Categorising Information) I've been practiciing on publicjobs but for situation awareness I'm unsure how to prepare. Is there a standard book for the civil service with practice tests?

    Thank u so much

Iirc it was just a questionaire assessment, where they give multiple answers to a situation. I wouldn't bother studying or practicing for it tbh.

AGS civilian staff are shortly going to lose their civil service status, so promotion prospects and mobility will disappear.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

    Hi @64869923

The test what I got was timed I was short on time. But they weren't that hard.

See link for practise aptitude test.

    Aptitude Tests

    https://www.librariesireland.ie/aptitude-tests

Aptitude tests are sometimes used before an interview takes place in order to assess an applicant’s suitability to proceed to the next stage of the application process.

    Good luck ☘️
