I like warranties, so looking at 2/3 year old Mitsubishi ASX 2 litre (it will have to tow a caravan so want some power).

    I see a 2021 automatic petrol for 23k (24k but scrappage of 1k, I have a 15 year old Golf).

Is cash any incentive these days, what would you pitch a bid at? Is there much "give".

What is the current diesel/petrol thinking?

I'm in no rush, the Golf works away fine, in fact I'll be sorry to change. Is there any time of year that's better to buy?

    Possibility a Mazda 6 2.0 petrol.

I like Mazda...but the nearest dealer is Mitsubishi so between that and the warranty I'm leaning towards the ASX. It's a small family (2 adults, 2 kids)!

Mitsubishi are gone from Ireland this year, worth bearing in mind.

There will be no give in dealer prices anywhere, but you'll get a grand for your Golf pretty much anywhere you go.

If you like the Golf, why not keep it in the Family and look at a Golf, Leon or Octavia Estate. There are even a few Passats and Superbs if you're willing to spend maybe another 3k

Thanks, the Golf will be going - my wife has a car that will become my car after the upgrade.

Had looked at a 2019 Leon Estate alright, petrol, 21k miles, €21,700 (again with 1k scrappage)...but it's only 1.5 litre. Now maybe these things matter less but years ago that would have seemed a little bit on the slight side, for towing a caravan anyway.
