Grazing Forestry

Anyone using Shropshire sheep or anything else to graze around trees in a forestry. Would like to know how you are getting on with them as I might soon need to get some in to manage a small bit of forestry.

@[Deleted User] - seems to be rare enough to find anyone working with them. I only need around 4 of them so I don't want to import them from the UK. They command a strong price, probably due to their rarity.

Mixture of natives - Oak, Ash, Birch, Whitethorn, Blackthorn, few others in the mix too.

My understanding is that Shrops are used because they don't browse the trees. I would have a concern on root damage, especially on softer ground.

If you do put them in, keep an eye on their effect on the soil.

Will do, the trees are fairly well established now and I think it will be next year before I get any at earliest. Will be stocking them very lightly so hopefully root damage won't be an issue, but you are right, it is something to watch for as this would be soft ground.
