When did you first see porn?

My first experience of seeing hardcore porn was when someone brought me a souvenir from a trip to Amsterdam in the form of a magazine.

My first online porn experience was pretty immediately after being given a crash course on how to use the internet so as I could teach work colleagues and members of the public attending the library where I worked. First time ever seeing the internet at work, one of my first search terms was out of curiosity just to see how much porn was out there as was reputed to be.

    This post is NSFW.

When I was in secondary school someone brought in a “grot mag” they picked up in the UK, they would have been much harder to find in Catholic Ireland at the time.

One thing that struck me later on when Playboy was available in Ireland wasn’t only the incredibly hairy growlers in my day, but also the parting of the beef curtains by the models in those magazines.

I suppose the perception of the time was that yawning fanny flaps would be perceived to be inviting. It worked anyway, a fair few of my pals were absolutely pulling the skeletons out of themselves at those pictures. They had themselves worn down to nubs, the poor wee divils.

Went to a party mid teens in the 80s - guys and girls at it - it was a big fck off open plan house downstairs (free gaff) and very oddly the person hosting the party had a VHS player playing a porn film on a big TV.

I never recall asking why but to this day thought it really odd

Funny that simple porn movies were banned in the 80s.

And now parents think it's cool their kids can watch the most depraved stuff 24x7x365 on demand. Upload and stream live stuff. In 4K HD. On their phones ...

And put all the other kids under the same pressure, temptation.

Sure it'll have no effect ...

    It'll be grand.

What a **** failure of a society we are.

Then one of the lads father had a fierce big collection of mags and vids, and when his mother and father were gone out on a sat night, wed go to their house and put vids one...... Some of his fathers mags and vids starting disappearing ... so that was the end of that..

Then the internet came along ...... Eureka ...😂

The only parent who thinks that is Rose West.

..oh man I must have bn like 10. Always some naturally occurring adventure playgrounds back then, delapided factory estates abandoned cinemas scrapyards or wastelands you could cut loose I recall stumbling across an old house compiled of wood that looked like the most blatant prop in a cheaply produced western. Maybe Stagecoach with Kim Coates but what the **** was a house if this nature even doing there stood alone, in the middle of some scrubland in bluebell anyways we entered, it was glorious run down to fcuk / creepy as hell and up the stairs was a cubicle with a toilet. Very little knee room, beyond that but I turned on the light bulb and there was this collage of 70s porn cuttings plastered all over the walls.. nothing shocking; soft as it was back then just this yellowing peeling menagerie of bush

    - which was astounding in itself, the level of craftsmanshipship could have could have spent forever peeling back the layers... like old wallpaper; each telling its own story but an urgency came over me. Surveyed the scene and hightailed out of there, in case Bondageface showed up wielding a big buzzcock. We had to go

    🤣🤣🤣

I said what I said, 'cause there will be someone on to say it has no effect and some study was done somewhere to prove it.

Or that it did no harm to them ... in the 80s, 90s, ..

    Yada yada yada

The web has layers. Using Google we see the tip of the iceberg, some of it questionable. There’s the dark web, very easily accessed via Tor, but with very little indexing except by some projects like Ahmia. Mostly very dodgy stuff on dark web, a criminals hang out, but there’s also reputable presences, eg the BBC news, so that people in repressed regimes can possibly access it. You can access web quite privately through “temp” operating system based on usb stick, called Tails. There’s the deep web. Some more inaccessible stuff can be retrieved with specific Google (dork) searches.

With all that, I believe with international Co-operation through organisations like Unicef, political will and open source resources, a safer children’s net could potentially be set up, relatively sand-boxed from general web. Of course kids would later get hacking into main web, but for a while they could be left in peace to learn about their universe in the way children should.

Remember when I was in college in Dublin in the early 80's. VHS tapes were just becoming popular. Fellas used to bring back 'blue movies', or indeed any recent release, from the States, hire a room in college and charge 50p in. Totally illegal I know, but no one cared in 'dem days. One day a fella said to me "are you going to see 'Deep Throat' in Room X". I said no. Hadn't a clue what he was on about. He then retorted "but it's a blue movie". So naturally enough I changed my mind. Turned up at the appointed time only to find a massive protest outside the building. There were even press reporters there. Here I was, away from home seeking a good third level education, with my Mother at home possible seeing her son on the front of the papers !. Got to see about 30 seconds of the movie before the protestors broke through the door and the whole lot was cancelled. Got my 50p back though !.

Ahh yes the nudie playing cards in primary school. The women on them had big hairy bushes. One guy in my class used to steal magazines from his fathers van and sell them for 50p. I think his father delivered them to the shops. When he found out about it he bet the bejasus out of him.

In my day (early 90s) illicit pornography was always found in skips.

Thinking about it, it was obviously men looking to get rid of a bit of a stash from the continent or wives who had found it, but it always seemed to end up fired into skips on building sites. Which of course were always being played in and rummaged through by resourceful young fellows.

I distinctly remember being in 1st year of secondary school and a couple of pages of a glossy hardcore doing the rounds in class and seeing the full glory of a hirsute olive skinned lady, I think from Italy if my memory of the accompanying text is correct. For a few years this was the sort of pickings we had to be happy with.

In about 1995,I began securing copies of 3.5 inch floppy disks (no pun intended) loaded with pics and gifs of a jazzy variety. Yes kids, we had to hand each other our computer porn and make copies that we had to stash very carefully.

Then in 1996, Playboy was legalised in Ireland (the Jenny McCarthy Christmas special was a memorable moment for your truly) and in 1998 or so, fellas began getting primitive modems in their homes and we salivated over short clips that took an absolute age to download over 9600 baud and IBM 386 processors.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Back in the very early 80's when I was about 12 -15, my hobby was electronics. People all around the area would get me to fix their radios, cassette players etc.

One day I was given a largish portable radio to fix by one of the parents, so when I got home I popped the back off to find a page of Playboy (or similar) in it! After I fixed it I put the page back in and said nothing. There was 2 or 3 sons in the household, I'm sure one of them must have never been able to look me in the eye since.

Has anyone ever come up with a viable theory as to why so much porn used to be found in bushes/hedges back in the day? I mean I can imagine some of it was lads hiding it from the missus but then how do you "use it" and what about the rest? You hardly stand by a bush pulling the innocence out of yourself and then stroll in for dinner.

Any chance that they were dead drops? Their mate would be by later to pick it up?

Depends what is classed as porn, I was around 13 and some of the older lads brought back a magazine and playing cards from France.

Tame by todays standards just hairy bush.

Someone mentioned finding stuff in hedges, I was reminded of finding a copy book in a hedge with some pretty erotic fiction or maybe not written in it back in the 90's and I can still remember some of it now. It was absolutely filthy even to 2023 me ........ 🤐

Readers wives wouldn't have touched it lol

I dunno. There was always pictures of topless ladies to be found in the tabloid newspapers and I can't remember what age I would have been when I first saw those - a very young child anyway.

Actual porn? I suppose whenever the internet took off, when I would have been approaching the teenage years It was one of the first things you went looking for whenever you had the chance. Pictures from freeones.com on a 56k dial up: simpler times. The odd time someone might bring in a copy of a magazine like Playboy into school and it'd be treated like a holy text.

I can't remember the first time I saw actual video or footage - well into the teens anyway once broadband started to become widely available

First saw a hard-core porn video in secondary school circa 89 or 90. Literally in secondary school that is, our class had a half hour study time once a week where we left in the lecture room unsupervised. This had a vcr and telly. One day a lad brought in a video and the whole class watched a few minutes of it.

Hedge porn - it was a Penthouse magazine, very graphic in terms of the lady parts, stuffed into a hedge at the bottom of my Dublin suburban street back in circa 1987. One of my mates found it and showed it to all of us - we were 12.

Was learning the "facts of life" stuff at the time in our school - but that Penthouse mag blew our little innocent minds.

First porn film was on a pirated VHS from the early 80s, watched at my free gaff with school mates in 1990. We were 15
