I agree about Hill. He brings nothing to the show.

Because he was dull. A dull driver and then a dull commentator.

His analysis was good. But his delivery was terrible. He made good content sound boring.

On Coulthard, he also Co owns Whisper Productions, the company producing Channel 4's F1 coverage. While we're talking about the non Sky options, Alice Powell is a driver development coach at Alpine, pundit for Channel 4 and F1 TV. Billy Monger is a former F3 driver, they had Susie Wolff for a while. BBC Radio 5 Live had Jamie Chadwick in commentary for a couple of Grand Prix, they even shifted away from ex drivers with former mechanic Mark Priestly.

Very narrow minded to think only ex F1 drivers can analyse current F1 drivers.

    This too shall pass.

If you could jog on over to the current affairs forum or the 1950s (your choice), that'd be great. State of this sort of opinion...

Got to love the desperate clickbait articles popping up, latest for me "Mercedes disaster! Suspension failure throws doubts over season" I mean people are paid to write this??

Hopefully they let Alonso do all the testing. Speaking of which, does anyone know if the testing this Thursday will be shown on Sky or YouTube even?

I wonder what did he do? A broken wrist I'm guessing since he was on a bike. Who's Aston's reserve driver? Looks he'll be getting one race at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

There might be rules around this, I think they'll have to use whoever their reserve driver is for some of the testing at least, plus they will want to if he is going to be starting the first race for them.

I felt really sorry for Drugovich signing for AM as it was obvious there would not be a possible seat for a few years. But hey, as a reserve driver, these opportunities do not come up that often. He's a great driver so let's see if he is put in the seat for testing and measures up against Alonso.

Good opportunity for the lad. But let's not get carried away with testing. They run to testing programmes that mean we probably won't be able to tell anything from their relative times.

Testing might be different this time as they only have one test so they might have to run proper quali or long stints to understand the tyres.

Listening to testing reviews in the past they said they often go full speed through a single corner or a couple of corners on each lap so they don't even set a purple sector time. Then they stitch the fast corners together to get a feel for their actual pace. So each team will know how fast they are but the other teams can only guess.

Yep, total agree with you Dude that testing is testing. We won't know any different between the drivers but maybe the team will 😁

oh, you have to love this time of the year when the chat gets going proper! Bring it on.

Isn’t Vandorne the 3rd driver for AM as well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,146 ✭✭✭✭El_Duderino 09

That's What I'm reading. They appear to have a choice between the two of them. They might have wanted to train Drugovich for the future but he hasn't had much time in the car so they might favour the more experienced Vandorne.

It would be a shame for the young lad if he gets this close to getting great experience and then misses out due to lack of experience.

Less than two days to pre season testing 😎

Hamilton v Russell will be interesting this season. In 2022 it seemed that all the chaotic upgrade ( if you call it that) testing was happening on Hamiltons car . I don’t think he will accept that role in 2023

Drugovich to test for Aston Martin on Thursday.

Stroll will have an excuse now if or when he is off Alonsos pace in early races.

Nice side on view of the cars taken from the-race, excludes the RB19 since we've not seen that yet. Most seem to be copying the sidepods from last year's Red Bull (except for Ferrari, Haas and Merc to some degree). Cannot wait for testing to get going tomorrow, even if there'll be a crap load of sandbagging as usual. 😁

Bottas has a special helmet for testing incorporating his mullet and tache... Underrated sense of humour from him...

I read/heard something yesterday saying that only a few constructors have actually released their new upgraded car, most have just released their livery.

On an unrelated note, Ted Kravitz reckons that RB are 'nigh on unbeatable" for the season ahead. Never thought I'd hear him go against the British contingent but there you go. I'd have to agree with him too, I've no idea what sort of improvements are possible for Ferrari and Mercedes, but I can't imagine them being able to close the gap from last season in just one off-season.

I am super interested in seeing what the RB is actually like. Ted Kravitz seems to think it will be the car to beat from what he has heard.
