ROD is unplayable in this form

Hardly anyone getting that far ahead of themselves? Mind you, of the last 12 League Football Finals played, the winners won the subsequent All-Ireland. Successful teams tend to show form in the League even if it might not disturb their sleep. No harm in Mayo getting a little credit.

Kerry are lost without Clifford and O’Shea. Mayo are coached really well, tactics so far spot on. Some new players and older coming into form.

Good win. I didn’t expect that. Jordan Flynn was very good and deserved MOTM. Impressed with the backs tonight though Kerry didn’t look great or at least as good as we might expect them to be. Thought Loftus was very good at 6 as well.

That was Mayo’s All Ireland tonight.

Good win although that ~20 minute period without a score in the second half was a bit worrying.... similar to a couple of the big games last year iirc

Ah you're 13 points up, it's very hard to keep the intensity when the game is over

Good game. Shame to concede the goal as I thought the defence did really well throughout.

Flynn, O'Donoghue and Hession were excellent.

That said, Kerry looked a little lacking in fitness and match sharpness. Will be a different animal in summer. Still good to get a win over them.

I thought O'Donoghue was quiet apart from the goal. James Carr much more impressive. Scored 1-2 and won a good few frees.

Annoying to concede that goal at the end as we were managing the 2nd half really well up to that point.

Great to get the win. Kerry no great shakes without O'Se and Clifford but they are unbelievable players really. And neither are anywhere near full fitness. Clifford impossible to mark, he gets shots away no matter the pressure.

Knew we would drop off a bit in the 2nd half when Diarmuid went off late in the first. He's pivotal to everything we do.

Flynn continues to Impress. I've always been a fan, he's slowly sneaking up to being on of the best players in the Country.

Encouraging to see Aido and RO'D linking up well. RO'D seems to be running off his shoulder more often than not.

Delighted for Carr, really hope this pushes on this year. If Aido works in at FF, then the thoughts of RO'D, Conroy, Cillian and Carr feeding off him at different stages is encouraging.

Really impressive defensively but a shame to let Kerry in for that late goal.

There's a lot of players making claims for starting spots. I'm not sure the likes of McHugh and McDonagh will make the cut.

    Magnificent !

Enda Hession is turning into a proper player. I like having McBrien and Brickenden in the team too. Clearly not as talented on the ball as Keegan/Mullin but they are more natural full back line players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,632 ✭✭✭✭km79

I’d worry about Brickendens ability to turn quickly .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,242 ✭✭✭PressRun

Yeah Clifford is just impossible to mark really. He can make a score out of nothing and is clearly not 100%. Just have to stop the ball supply to him. Won't be able to do it every time of course, but have to try.

Do think he makes a huge difference to Kerry. They aren't quite the same without him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,632 ✭✭✭✭km79

I said this last year when we were basically without our entire FF line and people thought we should be able to cope or said we didn’t have the forwards

Take just Clifford alone out of the Kerry team and they don’t/won win AI. They are completely reliant on him . Hence why he played on one leg against us (and still beat us on his own!)

It will be interesting to see how Galway go too without Finnerty , Comer and Walsh for the next while. Sure they have the forwards and we don’t so it should be no problem

You’re not allowed to say stuff like that though.

Why does the PA guy at McHale Park bother telling people not to come on the pitch?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,632 ✭✭✭✭km79

He made an announcement (or attempted to) just as Reape was striking a long range free too which clearly put him off !!!

He certainly had an off night tonight. Started off by naming Matthew Tierney in midfield for us and plenty more mistakes after that.

The audio was terrible. It seemed like the audio was skipping every few seconds. The Kerry fans beside us were laughing at it.

    Great win.

this mayo team will go on to dominate football for a long time

A concern I would have is around Mattie Ruane. He's very loose in possession at times, can get dispossesed easily. In fact, I think he has struggled with form since the 2021 final.

I think Ruane has been playing really well so far this year. Didn't notice him losing the ball much last night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,242 ✭✭✭PressRun

Hmmm. I don't fully agree. He definitely gave away cheap possession at least once last night. He literally soloed the ball into a Kerry player's hands at one point. Dreadful execution of a basic skill.

Fionn McDonagh is another one. He will struggle to keep his place come summer imo.

If Mayo win the All Ireland this year, what would they have to aim for? It wouldn’t be the same anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 855 ✭✭✭RedDevil55

Fair enough. Over the course of 70+ minutes it's hard to avoid making the odd mistake!

Mattie is always looking to drive forward either by running it or a kick pass. If he went lateral and backwards more he might give the ball away less, but wouldn't be half as effective.

I think Matty was good in the Galway and Armagh games but definitely wasn't up to his usual standard last night. Fionn is another who made a few mistakes last night.

Kerry travelled up and back down again yesterday. Given that, it's hard to suggest they were targeting getting anything from the game if that was their approach. Not that it should matter to us. You can only beat what's in front of you, and they are the current League and All Ireland Champions, so have to be positive about the win.
